Hope everyone read me getting filthy with the umpires in the 'Umpires' thread

I'd rather have worse draft picks and a 'win at all costs' attitude instilled in our players than teach them "don't worry, it'll be better next year". I totally agree. It's an uphill battle but you've just got to keep pushing the envelope, raising the bar and winning games otherwise you're not going to break through this 20 year drought and establish a culture of winning and success. The boys just have to keep getting better and better and never stop and with this new era upon us and the potential of our players there's no doubt that it can be done, but will it?
I agree that if Wallace was trying to tank then he would be playing our older players as the kids are playing better, as stated on another thread. So, with that in mind, I believe the kids have to be going out there, onto the field, with nothing to lose and everything to gain - wins. Because really, they don't have anything to lose. I don't think playing the kids would be tanking it, so that's a good rap on our kids. If they can do the job, let them. So let's get behind the kids and still play to win. Selection will be a hard task though, they're gonna have to make some tough decisions. But I would just ask that in deciding whether to play a senior or a kid, base the decision on form and potential, but not experience, and when you're thinking about playing to win or not, think about memberships, although judging by this year's trend it doesn't seem to make a difference does it Tiger faithful?!!
I don't think anyone can deny that the team has improved every year since TW came on board. So last year we won 11 games and came 9th. Is it so inconceivable that after we are back in the winners' circle we can string a few games together and win 11 out of 17 and maintain the ascendency? Even if we drop a couple more than that, the youngsters will be in a much better position for having 1) experience 2) a winning culture and 3) part of a team that CONTINUES to improve. Even if we don't get to 9th or win 11 games, with no 100 point drubbings, retaining all the good signs (this is a must) AND building upon them to make them all Judds and Browns, taking our game and our players to the next level and making sure that they are absolutely 100% fit, bulked up and strong so as not to be susceptible to injury (this is also a must), we would then have a very solid foundation to be a top4 contender even next year. I don't want to get on board with the whole oh no, not next year, maybe 2009 thing. We've just gotta keep (start!) winning. The club and the boys are winning anyway with the wheels Terry Wallace has put in motion, we just need to see it on the scoreboard and in execution (I won't say 'skills' as that can be undermining).
The other thing I wanted to say is that, assuming we can't win 17 in a row(!), and next year is a big year for us, and Kingsley is supposed to be the difference between 9th and 8th position, but now has no role in 2007, well if you send him back to the VFL he might lose touch with the high standard of AFL footy so we need to keep all our options open and that goes for other senior players too, that's all I'm saying. Balance out the pros and cons of playing each player each week, weigh up the options, it's not going to be a matter of just 'playing the kids' (even though I'm considering holding up a sign that says "Play the Kids Terry" at the up and coming Port and Crows matches!!).
So yea, as the saying goes, two steps forward, one step back, maybe this year is our one step back, but next year we should be raring to go. But even now, they've got nothing to lose. So rip into 'em Tiges!!
Ok, that's my 2 cents.
