)HeraldSun said:COLLINGWOOD created history this morning when captain Nick Maxwell became the first player to win an appeal under the new tribunal system.
Maxwell overturned a charge of rough conduct and a four-match ban in front of the AFL Appeals Board at league headquarters at Telstra Dome.
The tough defender was initially handed a four-game suspension by the tribunal after it found him guilty of rough conduct for a bump that left West Coast Eagle Patrick McGinnity with a broken jaw in their opening NAB Cup game at Subiaco Oval on February 7.
This morning's decision means Maxwell will be eligible to play in the Magpies NAB Cup quarter-final against Richmond at Telstra Dome next Thursday night.
All 10 previous attempts to overturn tribunal decisions at the AFL Appeals Board had failed since the current judicial system started in 2005.
