I’d be shocked if Garlick and the board had the balls to do that. Only chance is maybe if the dogs beat us by 80-100
He's going nowhere, the club will already have the script for the press conference ready to go. "But, but we umm won 15 games, just unlucky. Haven't gone backwards etc."

But the fact is if we miss on 15 wins unlucky or not there were still 8 teams who were better than us, again. Should have already locked in a home qualifying final. Those 3 losses to Swans, Saints and Melb were unacceptable.

He has done better this year but I am sick of our cautious, defensive gameplan. Let the boys play footy ffs

I obviously don't really know but it feels like a decade since he's been highly rated.

Think you're on the right track just not sure you've hit the nail on the head tbh.
He was pretty important to Richmond.

Dees won a flag too with him, but they just let too much Clayton Oliver & Goody shit slide and paid the consequences.

His presser today was so funny.

“We have 15 wins.”
“We’re looking to get our 16th win”
“Not sure you heard me the first time but we have 15 wins”
“We have as many wins as 4th place”
“We have more wins than dogs”
I loved Longmures attack on the negative vibe the media were taking. He looked pissed the way they were questioning him and his team.
Well done Justin. Remended me a bit of how Lyon used to treat the media with disdain.

Not to read too much into a JL presser but that one was a lot more cagey than usual.

I thought JL was good in the presser. Assured and confident.

The real message was for his players.

Hope he is currying a bit of an us against them mindset this week, feel like Ryan, Clark, Andy, Serong, Onions, Treacy, Voss play their best footy on the edge.

I dont know what to make of his presser today.

I guess it means nothing on Sunday.

But just looked and felt weird

Interesting range of opinions, I thought we was actually relatively relaxed and answered the questions pretty well, obviously speaking at media conferences is not his forte but it was fine.

One thing that stood out to me was the standing position combined with the camera framing a bit wider put me off slightly.

Change for the sake of change?

How about change because we look likely to miss finals for yet another year?

Change because our percentage is abysmal for a team that purports itself to be competing?

Change because it’s been 6 years without meaningful progress?

But sure, everyone wants to change the coach just for shits and giggles.
You bring someone else in. We win 10 games next year. What then?

It's spectacularly difficult because those suggesting 15 wins is a good season but unlucky are right. But 3 seasons in a row without finals with a young list missing out on some of the most valuable experience possible, the very thing that has caused past generations to miss out on flags is also pretty close to unforgivable. It's absolutely an experience issue of the players but with an excellent coach they should be able to make finals (see Hawthorn).

When you suggest It's the players or the list that tends to make one think that we're essentially a very long way off as we seem to always be one or two plugged list holes away. But a coach change is an immediate fix and historically is either sink or swim, no wonder It's more palatable to fans.

What I will say here though is: This place (i.e. Freo fandom especially on BigFooty) is giving eerily similar vibes to the end days of Lyon: Split factions saying either change is needed or back him in as we're continually improving. Big name signings coming in and underwhelming with the promise of more big name signings to come, never a week going by without the constant debate about the coach to the point of fans giving up the ghost entirely.

It's not a nice place to be at the moment and the club itself is definitely not helping at the moment. It's going to be a very long off season and I'm genuinely curious to see what effect it will have on memberships and early season attendance in 2026.
Membership just keeps growing.

It's another great example of confirmation bias, everyone is seeing what they are expecting to see.

No , Lyon coached on for more than 1/2 a season , We made a PF in 2006 and the coach was sacked 1/2 way though 2007 2 games out of the 8
Connolly technically quit after losing 9 of 15 games the year after he made a PF. That’s not the same as sacking Longmuir now, far from it.

Maybe Longmuir will take the advice on here & quit at seasons end?

Be funny if we win this week & make finals & he quits, wouldn’t it?

I think we have a decent chance to win this weekend so holding off on judgement of JLs season as a whole until at least the last game is complete.

Rightly or wrongly there’s zero chance he’s being sacked though, whatever happens on Sunday. So not much point even debating that.

I think at the very least he definitely needs a major coaching staff shake up though. That’s one of the hallmarks of Chris Scott who is beloved of everyone on here. He is constantly adding something or someone new to his assistant ranks each offseason.
If JL were to miss finals and then roll with the same coaching staff into 2026 I’d be pretty damn pissed off then as a member.
An interesting hypothetical is what happens if we finish 8th or 9th next year? Does he survive again then into 2027?
We’d really be in mid table obscurity areas then I feel. People might scoff but I think there’s a very decent chance that happens to be honest.

We debate:

What JLo could have done
What Ross could have done
How good Chris Scott would be

Rinse and repeat.
By the same token, we keep JLo, we only win 10 games next year…. Even worse position.

We shouldn’t let the fear of the unknown get in the way of making a decision. JLo is a known quantity, we know he’s mediocre, vanilla and at his absolute best can have the side compete for the lower rungs of the 8.

A new coach might take us to the top 4 next year too. Don’t be scared of change.
