Question. Is it me or can Carlton do with a midfielder like Justin Murphy? His delivery of the ball has always been A+ standard and watching the Legends game last night was no exception.

Why did we get rid of him AGAIN and why did Essendon delist him?

Because he's soft and doesnt perform consistantly.

And the rest of the team does??? I reckon both Carlton and Essendon will benefit from a player of Murphy's calibre, especially considering both teams play worse players week in and week out!

Justin Murphy has my respect...

has the skills and I can't forget that time how he stuck up for SOS in the Geelong game when SOS got KO'd.

And who will forget the 99 prelim when he was the last man holding the ball in the defeat against Essendon!

GO BLUES

Theres probably a reason why he went through 4 clubs.

He was good though in his day, used to get into the opposition. :thumbsu:

I can appreciate that there probably was a reason considering his movements from club to club and back to clubs but for the life of me really can't pinpoint anything, know what i mean!!??

Yeh, and he was the best Carlton player up until half time in the '99 Grand Final defeat by North Melb, when he did his knee. We were still within striking distance of North at the time, and his injury was a major blow.

lol took a bit of re-reading, but yeah i do

He just became disinterested onfield. At the time we were carrying him and Ryan Houlihan who was also disinterested. Murphy played game after game going through the motions, being unaccountable and not racking up many stats himself for a period there. The disease seemed to be catching too as the team followed suit. He was supposed to be leading from the front as one of our experienced players and he quite simply wasn't. One or two game per year, he stood out. The rest was pathetic and not someone that was going to help us move forward. We made the right decision getting rid of him as he was never going to perform for us again.

Sorry I had to double back & read again as that seems to sum up Nick Stevens.

You obviously missed his great defensive job on Kerr at the weekend. Showed great discipline to run with Kerr and not go chasing cheap possessions, yet still had an influence. That goal he kicked in the last quarter was top shelf, too.

Care factor=ZERO.

He, he, he!

Interesting post considering the guy would actually kick it lace out to the opposition half the time. Whether he didnt care who he kicked it too, or was a crap kick is debatable the point is it went where it shouldn't have. NEVER followed up.

Cypher, like your avatar, you kept the faith mate and now you just look like you always knew about the wiggler.

He didn't really stick up for SOS...just disappointed with the reaction from Milburn as he came off Optus Oval.

Great skills...definetly a reciever though.

Never ever the same player after he done his in the 99 Granny.
I am pretty sure before then he used to put his body on the line.

First post guys - Usually quite happy just to read everyones opinions.

But one think that has always anoyed me about fellow carlton supporters is their attack on Justin Murphy

One thing that modern day football really lacks in loyality, and I dont think anyone could question this guys loyaltity when it came to the carlton football club. - I remember being at that game with SOS at optus oval, and to look at the guys body language towards Milburn after the incident is something i will never forget.

With all the clubs that picked him up and moved him along, unlike many other past and present players for clubs I can't remember him once even venting his anger of being constantly moved on.

A rumour I heard just after Hamill departed to a team I despise to much to mention was that when Hamill demanded more money, they traded Murph to make up the difference Hamill asked for in the salary cap. A move which angered alot of players because at the time Murph was very popular around the club, and Hamill's mind was obviously made up and we ended up loosing both players.

If we had 10 or so guys are carlton with his loyality now, Our future would be looking a little brighter!

There can be no question about his skills, especially his foot skills. However, when he was at Carlton for the second time, he really did become unaccountable and he very rarely put his body on the line. That 2 traits that don't sit very well with D.Pagan at all.

You may hate him but his foot skills are exceptional and that is something we lack!
