How underrated is this bloke? I don't think he has missed a game for the Blues in at atleast 5 years.
Not talked about much in the media, a true quiet achiever. He has a very reliable, deadly left foot and is easily one of the best kickers at Carlton.
Has been mentioned about possibly being a future captain of the Blues.
I am interested to know how opposition supporters rate him?
He averaged 22 disposals in 2009 and is currently averaging 24 a game in 2010.
Would he be in your clubs best 22?

cheers.

He is a decent player, nothing more. Would probably get a game at Collinwood but wouldn't at the dogs, saints, hawks or cats.

I dont think its as simple as listing the best teams and saying that he wouldn't get a gig.

We would kill for a quick wingman like Simpson.

He probably doesnt get the praise he deserves from the general public but I think he gets it from the football media.

Hes a good player, very reliable and has a bigger heart than probably 70% of the AFL

His good games are really great, but his normal game is just about par with most decent midfielders

I think his X-Factor gets overlooked a bit. Like the Leons and Cyrils of the league he is often the spark we need to get us back into a game in the 3rd or last qtr. We may look for Eddie or someone to do it but often its Simpson that provides it

Quicker than people think, a good left footer sits well with our structure but never going to win a brownlow

He'd get in most teams

Those of us who have the pleasure of watching him weekly know how good he is.

Very unaccountable with no defensive skills.
An honest goer in an ordinary team.

Over rated by carlton supporters

He'd push Eagleton out of a job on present form, and the Hawks have tried a whole lot of kids in the last 6-8 weeks of footy so I daresay he'd get in in front of one of them. Especially with Bateman out/down on form. Saints wanted Lovett, would have made a spot for him, daresey they'd take Simpson in his spot.
DOn't actually mind him. Only Carlton player who consistently rocks up to Carlton/Essendon games.

Who would go out of those teams to allow Simpson in?

Brett Peake, Farren Ray are two I can think of. Harsh on Farren as he has done little wrong for us, but Simpson is a very classy player.

So, what you're really after is for everyone to praise him ?
I watch most Carlton games, and I think my assessment on him was fair. I think you'll find that is the general consensus as well.

So far so good

I said he would probably get a game at Collingwood.
As for St Kilda, Lovett isn't playing and won't play, so to say he would get into a side that is 3-0 is a pretty big call.
I think Geelong have the best midfield in the comp and wouldn't require simpson.

Didn't I see Eaglton playing in the reserves last week? So to say he would replace a player in the 2's is pretty silly.

No defensive pressure, to one-way for my liking.

Much the same as Murphy, to often I see the blokes 5 meters outside of a pack, ready to look good with run and carry but lacking grunt and accountability.

Alright:
Saints: he is a better wingman than both peake and ray.
Dogs: better than moles or eagleton on a wing or hahn at hf, would even have ahead of hill as a fp although he'd be wasted there
Cats: easily better than mitch duncan or wojo (although i wouldn't play him in defense, drop kelly back to cover wojo)
Pies: fights through a tag so i'd have him behind only swan amongst your mids

Good player - would get a game in any side based on the games I saw him in last year and prior. Haven't seen him much this year yet.
Linebreaker

Ok now you officially have no clue. He is not an in and under tough player, so how the heck is he in front of Moles?

Eagleton isn't even in the team. Hahn plays taller in the forward line as a big body and can take strong pack marks at times, something Simpson is not and does not do.

A wingman replace a forward pocket? Waste of time

Simpson may have decent skills but to say he replaces the above in the Dogs' best 22 is stupid

I'll admit replacing Hahn is a stretch because Hahn does play tall but he's such a better player that I'd make the swap anyway, Simpson is good overhead. He is also a good clearance player and a much better one than Moles so yes I'd have him in the midfield rotations above Moles. With Boyd and Cross in the team I wouldn't be worried about in-and-unders

With Griffin, Cooney, Boyd, Picken and Higgins I wouldn't worry about clearance players either.

Strength wise, Simpson has nothing on Hahn. Only player he could replace is Eagleton and as I said, he isn't even best 22. He may be this week but that is because of injuries and nothing else.

I wouldn't have thought he was "much" better than Eagleton anway. They play a pretty similar role for mine.

Although Eagleton is probably a better shot at goal.
