Part of you want to go back in time - which part - the part with a clue.

2 flags in the last 10 years. Yeah I am shattered to follow the Roos!

15 years since your last flag - how successful is your side?

More than twice as successful as yours, you moron.

9 flags >>>>>>> 4 flags.

What did you get for Motlop then?
Picks 28 & 46.Or more definitively Matt Riggio and Kasey Green.

Is it fair to say that if you didn't trade for Hay, you could have kept pick 18, and gotten pick 14 for Motlop?
Yes.But Hay is an AA defender and still is an AA defender and is at a better club where his head is getting better, but thanks for the enquiry given the damage you did to him. Also, we wouldn't have landed a homesick McConnell (an incredibly talented player who wanted to come home) under your scheme.

port gave u guys pick 14

Did you even read my post ????
Do you honestly think they gave pick 14 for Lonie????? its all about the bigger picture!!!!!!!

Hawthorn always wanted 2 first rounders for Hay, just like North wanted a first rounder for Motlop!!!! to give to Hawthorn for Hay.

Just because it doesn't say this in the official trade doesn't mean it didn't happen, it was acomplicated deal with other picks swapped between 4 teams.

It is certainly about the bigger picture. Looking at the trade period as a whole, at the time, North's trading was pretty bloody good. To end up with McConnell, Hay and an extra third rounder for effectively Motlop and our first rounder was pretty good going at the time.

This of course was ruined by Hay's disastrous season, but all is not lost. I am keeping the faith.

Damn you, u r turning this into a serious discussion...

FWIW, I think North traded pretty well last year, is was done well and was aligned with what Laidley thought he needed at the time. The Hay deal is only bad when looked at in hindsight

If we've turned serious.

Is the Kangaroos recruiting only done to keep them super competitive rather than win flags? Sides seem to have to dip these days before rising, whilst Kangas stayed up for a lot of years round the 6-8 position.

Re: Kangaroos Go First Class

Yeah, reason prevails.

It was a four way trade. You can't really take one element of it and say "har har we owned you".

It just looks like that from a Hawks perspective because we got those two first rounders for Lonie, who I would have been happy enough just to delist, and Hay, an AA fullback in 2001 who is well past his best.

The "Hay for Birchall and Bailey" trade will not be discussed by me again.

Har har two picks for Hay;)

Re: Kangaroos Go First Class

Good to see my woeful attempt at humour has attracted more than doulble the responses than SweetClubFoot even more pathetic attempt at humour titled: Hawthorn players prepare for relocation to Tassie with pics of sheep included (pure genius, really).

How easy are Norff fans to suck in?

Although I do feel a little guilty considering their mental age is around 6.

I quote myself: "what Laidley thought he needed at the time"

Re: Kangaroos Go First Class

If we are finally going to be serious.

You honestly can't blame them for thinking we might have had a shot. We over-stretched ourselves in 2005 by finishing 5th. (8th after the Port disaster)

Obviously alot of people over-rated where the list was at. Motlop really was a big part of the future direction for North, He obviously didn't think so though. In hindsight the Hay deal worked out bad for us. He came over in a poor frame of mind and not in any state to play footy. Part of this has to be laid at the feet of Donald Mcdonald, whom rated Hay very highly. He has since been moved into an administration role at the club.

We traded to fill obvious holes because it looked like we could have a crack. Unfortunatly the holes have just got bigger. Unless Hay can get his **** together and get his head right it will go down as probably the worst trade move ever.

What would be said though, if by some highly unlikely miracle, Hay managed to recover his AA form?

Pretty fair call all round :thumbsu:

First of all Hodge is still a gun player, judd is still better.

Either way, it was a dud trade for North because they could have had picks 14 and 18 if they didn't trade for Hay who is currently playing in the reserves side while Hodge is rated in the top 20 players in the league, so to even compare that blunder is pure stupidity.

1) Judd
2) J Brown
3) Riewoldt
4) Pav
5) Cousin
6) Hall
7) Goodes
8) Kerr
9) Richo
10) Brad Johnson
11) S West
12) Roo
13) Mcleod
14) Goodwin
15) Tredrea
16) S Burgyone
17) Dal Santo
18) Clement
19) Chad Cornes
20) Cox

This is not in any order - who is Hodge better than?? Not in my top 20. Would you like to guess again - maybe he is in the top 50?

Richo v Hodge mmm find it hard to draw comparisions when comaring apples and oranges.......Dal Sanot mmmm another on the soft side...not a bad top 20 but it is only yours and not as voted by a select group of peers..

O'keefe, Lade, Everitt, Hird, Buckely, Chapman, Hayes, Bell, Glass, Rutten can replace Richo or Dal Santo if you like. To say Hodge is a top 20 player is off the mark.

The majority of these blokes have played for years at AFL level, I'd say when Hodge has that experience he'll be top 20...at the present I agree he is not...:thumbsu:

Well then arguably top 20 but is a definite top 30 at the tender age of 21.

Either way this still does not compare with the Hay trade ordeal.
