Can you point me to where this stat is available - I've looked but can't find an online source for goals conceded.

Your comment illustrates the rose-coloured glasses that a lot of people have on when it comes to Karmichael Hunt. What about his kicking? And marking? For a rugby player, he doesn't tackle much either (averages 1.4 tackles per game).

It was announced last week by Glen Luff of Champon Data on HARF's show on SEN - Dream team betweeen 1pm and 2pm Thursday.

Why don't we be fair and compare him to someone who played a similar role to him shall we.

Simon Prestigiacomo

2010 - avg
1.4 tackles
6.1 disposals (2 kick 4.1 hb)
2 marks

Career
1.2 tackles
7.2 disposals (3.8 kick 3.4 hb)
2.1 marks

Karmichael Hunt

2011/career - avg
1.4 tackles
7 disposals (2.1 kick 4.9 hb)
1.1 marks

Presti was obviously better but stats wise he wasn't. Also, he tackles the same amount as Presti did, was Presti not getting near it enough?

Apples to oranges - is he really playing a classic 'dour defender' role like Presti did? Presti was a pure lockdown stopper in the finest sense, a role which is kind of going extinct to an extent with the evolution of the roving CHB.

I think you meant to say that he'll never be an elite AFL player .
But I digress .
Most players (by definition) wont be elite .
Some Irish converts are considered elite ,some serviceble and some failed .
Some AFL players are considered elite ,some serviceble and some failed .
What's your point ?

That he won't be an elite AFL player..or serviceable. With the amount of youth that will come into GC in the next couple of years, he'll no longer be there.

From what I have seen he is. It's not like he is trying to get disposals and failing. He doesn't try to get loose and provide an option out of attack.

I think Mckenna should let him try and be a real player and if he fails, he fails. At the moment he is protected as his role is as simple as stop your direct opponent. It makes people judge him prematurely as he is not given a chance to impress.

How many fullbacks are impressive besides maybe Lake?

Basically the role K is playing for us at the moment. Seems like they might try him in another role after he spends a bit of time in the 2s.

Not sure if serious? You have just stated he won a premiership, was a part of the best Queensland team of all time, and add in the fact you left out that he was always picked in the Australian team, then follow it up by saying he was above average (you guess).

F#ck me! What would he have had to do to be a great player? Score 50 tries a game? The fact was he was consistently seen as one of the top 1 or 2 players in his position, and one of the top 13 players in the country (as seen by his ongoing selection for Australia).

He rarely started for Australia he was picked on the bench so he was in the top 17 players however by the time he left the game he's slipped a long way behind Billy Slater and Jarryd Hayne as the game's best fullback. He wasn't picked for Australia in his final season.

In saying that he gave up a lot for the money and the "challenge" he would have been Broncos captain next year. Having started NRL at 17 he would have been a massive chance of breaking the record for the most amount of 1st grade appearances by the end of his career.

mmm, yet he was picked on the bench of out of position a bit (or others who could adapt to other positions were chosen with him). He was never in the top couple of players in his position, but benifitted from playing club footy with the qld/australian captain. club combo's are seen as important at rep level. He didnt particularly deserve Aust selection (IMO). My point about him being in good sides was more related to the fact he wouldnt be used to being in a shit team.

He has a heap of hype when he came into the game, but the reality was he had a big (yet innefective) side step and couldnt tackle. He got progressively safer at the back but his sidestep and attack dissapeared as defences just tackled him. Decent link player but nothing outstanding, although he probably would've ended up at 5/8 to replace Lockyer if he stayed in league. I cant remember any game he dominated himself, and he certainly hasnt been missed.

Although im biased because I never liked him as a player. He was known as campaigner long before he left the game. Acted like a bit of an arrogant flog and rejected his own country when picked because he wanted to play for Qld. Then when asked who he supports in union "Oh the All Blacks." So I'm pretty biased because the bloke is a w***er!

Agree with you so much on that. Can't stand those types who go for NZ in Rugby Union but want to go for Australia in League. At least Benji Marshall, Sonny Bill and Kieran Foran made the right call and gave up origin to play for their home nation.

in the last 5 years of league he was very much considered one of the top 3 fullbacks going around in league - to say otherwise is complete rubish.
As a player in league he was a very good defender, and was good link player and had good vision. As far as never dominating a game that is clearly untrue as he was named as man of the match in the 2007 ANZAC test match he was also one of the better players in a number of state of orgin matches and his good form for a time kept billy slatter out of the origin team as fullback. As for supporting the all blacks given he knocked back an offer from NZ rugby to play for the all blacks and did the same with oz rugby so he could play afl shows how wrong you are.
If you want to knock him as an afl player who has not even played half dozens games in his life fair enough, but to knock his record as a league player is way off.

But as an afl player he is still very much learning the game and we wont know how good or bad he will be as a player for atleast another 12mths.

He switched to AFL for money. To believe anything else is quite naive. If the Broncos matched the Suns offer he would still be in the NRL.

So , ever thought of keeping your irrelevant dislikes to youself ?

Ticking all the right boxes at the moment .

Isn't the concept of having a forum about people having an opinion. If you don't want opposing opinions don't come on and read them. The fact he is not a fan of Karmichael is relevant he is saying it openly to show that his opinion might be coloured it's called honesty.

I was a fan of his as a player when he was in the NRL but I knew he was a long way behind Billy Slater as far as the best fullback in the game went.

I think he has done better than I expected but he has still been very very average and wouldn't be in the starting side of any other team. To be honest I'm so sick of seeing that goal he kicked everytime they bring up an article on him they show "that" goal that basically he hasn't done much else his stats are awful. People need to be realistic about it.

But he is a first year player he deserves the opportunity next year to improve and prove he can make it. But in the future if the Suns are playing for a spot in the finals in a crucial game I doubt on his current form he would be in the team.

Good read, this interview with Hunt by Robert Craddock - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/thrill-of-the-hunt-for-footy-nomad-karmichael-hunt/story-e6frf9jf-1226051701390

Here's a few selections from it -
It shows not only the superior fitness and pyhsical requirements of the Australian code but it also shows the critical importance of decision making in our game - as Hunt said "It asks a lot of you, not only physically and endurance-wise but you have to be thinking as well."

Rubbish. He saying that as a paid promoter of AFL. The games are different, different skills are required. I couldn't see any AFL player being successful in the NRL and vice versa except maybe Darren Lockyer at his best and that is still a big maybe.

Only because you're suggesting established successful players and you well know the amaount of conditioning required to be successful in any professional code .The earlier you can acquire a player the easier the process .There are now many rl players (not NRL) switching to AR (not AFL) as well as those from the past .It's the same with basketball plaers to AFL and GAA players to AFL .

I don't get why people have to pretend to be Australian Football fans / have been a member for ages when they post on here. I actually don't mind fans of just other codes having input and I certainly don't believe the game or the league is beyond reproach, but why bother with the facade if you aren't even going to put the effort into making a token few posts on your chosen team?
