Went to watch F1 qualifying. And all motorsport content now has a padlock symbol on the top corner.

Clicking it, and it’s asking me to register for access to a free trial.

I'm already paying their inflated price, now they're hitting me again?

Update. Have joined the ranks of the cancelled.
I don't watch motorsport but flicked over to it and no issues.

As Hamingja said are you on an AFL subscription? I'm not. But if they are pulling these stunts for those who are they will just lose more subscribers,

It works for me. Are you sure you are logged in properly? Or are they limiting what people can watch based off an AFL membership now?

Yeah I am logged in and paid my last sub on the 2nd of December.

Logged out and back in. Everything's locked except Sheffield Shield lol.

New credit card in November, same number, different cve but the payment went through so I don't know what has happened.

Afl membership and nothing else has changed.

Only thing I can think of is the account is in my ex's email so maybe there's some email we've missed?

If I'm the only one, then obviously must be a problem my end.

Got a notification the monthly cost will increase to $45.99 per month from 5th Feb

The grift is strong with this mob. It feels like a $5+ rise twice a year is the new norm now, as it is with a lot of streaming services. Not that it was ever going to help us end users by having a business such as DAZN take over Fox - and it'll only get worse from here.

Essendon digital membership is currently $375 ($31pm), upfront unfortunately, but I expect that will rise now as well.

So it's either that or pay the $46 for 6 months = $270. Or look for dodgy streams. Or find something more satisfying and rewarding to do - there is always that...

Is the Essendon contract a "locked/fixed" amount for 12 months?

$27 for entry into a single game.

How many games in a month?

We all like to have a complain but it's still not bad value to be able to watch every single game of the round for a month.

So it was great value at $20, still value at $25, then $30, also at $35, and at $40, and somehow also value at $46?

Same games. Same stream quality bar a couple of games. Same annoying commentary for the most part.
Apparently “value” now just means “they keep charging more and we keep paying.”

That’s not value — that’s price tolerance.

Well at $20,$25,$30 it was massively underpriced as a service.

Ever thought about that?

Oh so that's what it was. It wasn't value, it was underpriced. Nice. All those streaming services that have been jacking up prices every other quarter were the same I guess, just underpriced.

But will $46 have been underpriced when it's $50, then $55, then $60?

It's called gouging buddy.

$46 for every game in a month isn't much in my books.

It's called being a tight arse that wants it for nothing, buddy.

I would get logged out every now and then for unknown reasons, sometimes I think the tv updated and it would log me out during that.

From memory GWS used to be the cheapest

"Yes, the Kayo Standard package includes all AFL games, live and on-demand, with no ad breaks during play, but it streams on one device at a time in HD (up to 1080p)"

  • Kayo Standard ($30/month): 1 screen, HD quality.

Yeah champ, I'm a tight ass who's paying for god knows how many steaming services plus NFL plus AFL, all of whom are regularly increasing their prices by 20%, 30%, 40% & while often reducing content, such as Kayo with the F1 I believe.

You don't have a problem with that, that's fine, keep forking out, your type are their ideal customer. But obviously many do have a problem with it & it has **** all to do with wanting something for nothing or being stingy.

So then it's a you problem.

I don't have a problem with it because I'm not wasting my money on other streaming services.

I only need to pay for the AFL, cheap as chips thankfully.

You can get the standard for $30, stop crying about it.

"Stop crying" says the bloke proudly admitting he’s fine paying more every year as long as his one little use case still works.

You’re not being rational or savvy - you’re just low-standards. Companies love customers like you: minimal expectations, maximum defence of price gouging.

This isn’t about affordability, it’s about enshittification. Prices go up 20–40%, content gets shuffled or cut, and people like you clap because you personally haven’t been inconvenienced yet.

That’s not an argument. That’s textbook bootlicker logic: "Doesn’t affect me, therefore it’s fine."

Enjoy feeling smug over the $30 tier. When it’s $50 in a year or two, you’ll be right back here explaining why that’s "cheap as chips" too.
