Is he the man to lead the Windies out of the wilderness? Quality young quick, I dont think they've had a bowler of this potential in a long long time. Smooth run up, quick and quality. Look forward to watching his cricket for some time.

They just need one more good quick bowler and I really think they'd return to being a decent side. That is, if they played to their potential. And that's a huge if with the Windies side of the last 15 years. Half the time it's been mental application as opposed to actual talent. They've got quite a lot of talented young guys going around, it's whether they can actually apply it in a test match. Roach, Darren Bravo, Barath, and I even think Pollard could play tests if he pulled his head in.

Something tells me we'll just watch Roach and Darren Bravo tear it up for the next 10 years with no support and they won't actually win many games.

Pollard could play tests of they picked him, good enough with the ball and a devasting 7 or 8 batsmen IMO.

Can Pollard bat for more than 10 overs and really knuckle down to play test cricket though.

Roach is a quality quick, certainly ruffled Ricky Pontings feathers about 12 months ago.

He doesnt give a damn about batsmen's reputations

He needs help at the other end though, Suliemen Benn is a handy spinner, but the strong West Indies teams were built on the foundation of a dominant fast bowling brigade

Also interesting is Roach's rise is culminated with the decline of Fidel Edwards and Jerome Taylor

Fidel Edwards doesnt want to play test cricket, but Taylor was a solid contributor for the Windies before he injured himself at the Gabba test match a couple of years back

Interesting point: Roach seems to enjoy carrying the attack by himself

Taylor has been sidelined by a back injury, and there were question marks over his commitment to rehab. Edwards was similar, but in his case it was a knee problem. Both are back playing four day domestic cricket now though.

It's hard to tell what will happen with the West Indies over the next few years. At full strength, they'd have one of the most talented teams in the world but obviously that means little when it comes to them.

There are a number of problems....

- Sammy as captain and Nash as vice captain. Both have been solid over the past year or two, but simply put neither are the future. So really, they shouldn't be in the Test team.
- Darren Bravo has to play, but where does that leave Sarwan? He is only 30, so should still have plenty of cricket left in him. I don't think they can play both him and Chanderpaul anymore.
- Getting games into Russell, Pascal, Holder, Braithwaite and Edwards. The future is right there, so the key is to play them when Gayle/Chanderpaul or a quick goes down.

Their next Test matches aren't until May, but if they could put this field onto the ground then they should win....

Chris Gayle (Kraigg Braithwaite)
Adrian Barath
Darren Bravo
Shiv Chanderpaul (Kirk Edwards)
Marlon Samuels
Dwayne Bravo
Devon Thomas
Jerome Taylor (Andre Russell)
Sulieman Benn
Kemar Roach
Fidel Edwards (Nelon Pascal)

Oh, and back on topic, Kemar Roach is awesome.

Pollard hasn't played a first class match since April 2009. He hit 126 on debut against Barbados and their bowling attack wasn't too bad(Tino Best, Pedro Collins, Corey Collymore & Dwayne Smith). His first class record is 33 innings, 1199 runs @ 37.46 with 5 fifties and 3 centuries and highest score of 174. The talent is there just a matter of him knuckling down and actually playing more first class games and getting some consistency in his game.

Back on Roach - hopefully he just keeps getting better and is bowling well for the next 10 years, world cricket needs it.

Kemar Roach doesnt seem to have a sense of humour when hes bowling, nobody's gunna charge down the pitch and smash him for six or play a reverse sweep against him anytime soon.

The future west indies attack is looking pretty good. Bishoo was very impressive also, caused batsmen a few headaches with his leggies. Roach was fast and hostile, difficult to face. Russel is not quite so fast, still quick and was also impressive. One bean pole fast west Indian and theyre set.
Batting they have pollard and bravo. Another two quality batsmen would put this side back up the ladder.

Barath missed a fair chunk of last year with a knee injury, so has only really been making his return in the past couple of series. But then he hurt his hamstring right at the start of the World Cup and had to be replaced.

Good to see Russell performing well at international level too.
