Hey I was just wondering how much Josh kennedy has grown and how much weight he has put on? I heard someone say he is 198cm or something. If he is this big could it be a problem or is he becoming the monster we need to play at centre half foward?

Wouldn't surprise me. He looks like becoming a huge CHF, that will exert a real physical presence. This is a good thing in terms of our forward structure- balance. We'll have Fev as the fast leading FF, Kennedy as the pack busting CHF, providing opportunities for our crumbers and clearing space for Fev, and have Fisher and Waite as smaller KP forwards that can move into the middle or defense when required. :)

What do you think of trialing Waite in the back half next season Parrot? Well, at least in the practice matches.

I really don't think that would work. Even though Waite has the physical attributes to play that position, he just isn't a naturally defensive player, and looks lost when playing roles that require that degree of accountability. Setanta is a much better option IMO. I think it's important to use players strengths - Waite is a tall, fast mobile KP forward, that can be moved into the middle, or be used as a rebounding link-man in defense on occasions. Fisher can play a similar role. :)

This is a bit radical, but I will ask it nonetheless. What are people's thoughts on Josh rucking up forward? The question has been asked regarding Setanta in the backline, so why cant Josh do it up forward? He is certainly big enough to do it, standing at 198cm at only 19 years old. That would mean any ruckman we play will really only need to patrol the middle of the ground, and on the wings, so he doesn't need to be so mobile. Having Setanta ruck in the defensive 50 and Josh in the forward 50 rucking would save the ruckman, and make sure he remains fresh for extended periods of time, and is able to rest. I imagine the prospect of facing really 3 ruckmen would be daunting for the ruckmen that shoulder most of the burden by themselves.

Josh would then go back to being a huge problem for defenders at CHF. 198 and a big boy is a super exciting prospect for us. I am really excited about Josh, just as excited about him than about Murph. We just need him to put on some muscle and then he will instill fear in every defender he plays on :)

What do you reckon? Does the idea have merit?

Agreed! The "mid field" ruckman then drops back and plays a kick behind... works in theory... thats what prac games and the bullshyte cup at the begining of the season is for!... trial it... we cant do any worse than this year! :p

Even this year, in the game against the Dons, Josh was landing some heavy duty tackles on the Dons defenders that really hurt. He looks like having the physical presence of Earl Spalding, and shares the same fearless relentless attack on the ball. Josh is a much better mark and kick though. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up around the 200 cm mark. He does have excellent ruck skills also, and will undoubtedly take on that role on occasions when the ball is in the forward 50. Josh's main strength is his pack marking ability, which is just freakish. We've only seen glimpses of it this year (e.g V Weagles, Dons, and a few Bullants games). Really hope he stays injury free. :)

Great idea IMO. Definately has merit. Waite could almost be another possibility as well if he gets a little stronger.

Can a key forward be 'too tall??'

Without doubt, with every cm you grow at that height players lose mobility. Especially a problem for someone who isnt a natural athlete like Josh, you want to be careful he doesnt lose the last big of mobility he has left. I remember Dermott saying Ash Hansen would be a better player if he was 195cm than 198cm. That little bit of extra height costs you more in agility and pace off the mark than you gain in reach. The reality is that reach means nothing when you can pluck the ball like Josh can.

Rubbish.

There are plenty of players who are that tall that have great mobility. Taller does not necessarily mean less mobile at all...

I wouldn't say Josh is not a natural athlete - he definitely is! I think he'll end up the size and mobility of Kosi. :)

So if JK rucks up forward and Carlos rucks down back we only need an immobile tall guy in the middle.........could Harry make a comeback?

Does this leave the door open for Gardiner or Keating (youth policy thing was a bluff to drive his price down..............yes cypher........needling again.........:p )

Alot of them are freaks. Take Richo for example, that guy is a monster, 200cm 100kgs+ but one of the most gifted athletes to play the game. I think phrased incorrectly before, you can be 200cm and mobile but its alot harder to rebalance, to pick the ball off the deck, to get speed off the mark etc.

Parrot is right, Josh isnt a bad athlete aerobically but his agility and ability when the ball isnt delivered in the air isnt great. His speed off the mark has always been poor. Those aspects are where the club would be hoping for him to improve, growing to ruckman height will make it near on impossible. How many ruckmen do you see gather the ball off the deck from a scrambled kick while on the lead? (apart from freaks like Cox and Fraser [Kennedy aint no freak]) CHF's have to put up with that alot. Thats why I think Josh would be better staying around 195cm.

Bit concerned about having Josh ruck in the forward area.

I know Goodes and Josh can't be compared too closely, but Goodes stuffed himself up rucking around the ground. I'm all in favour of having one core player fulfilling about 80% of the rucking duties throughout the game.... ruck is very specialised and you need someone who can devote a large amount of their training to practicing rucking.

I want Josh to become like a J.Brown.... :)
