I am a Carlton supporter who noticed the thread and found it interesting. I would imagine that you guys would want on field success long term more than anything else.
With this in mind I think the most important thing is how real Mr. Kennett will be in his role. By this I mean will he keep an open mind in making his decisions or will he come into the club and rule the club with arrogance.
I dont doubt that he is a gifted and powerful man however power can also be the undoing of some men. A truly strong man is one who is balanced in his personality and faces others with resolve and calm.
My instinct is that Jeff could let his ego get in the way of the best interests of the club. This is not to say that he doesn't love the club just that his ego could blind him to consistently doing the best for the long term stability of the club. John Elliot loves Carlton and is IMO a good man. However his blind arrogance di lead him to make decisions that in the light of day even he would not have made.
Well putFabulous said:The very reason Kennett has put up his hand is that he experienced how the club has lost its way under Dicker in the selfish direction you refer to. His stated aim internally and publicly is to ensure the best people are in place/put in place and that they have clear direction to be delegated to go and do their job. He has a lot to do and his first step is to show members, supporters and the football community he is serious about bringing respect back to Hawthorn and we will no longer be seen as the laughing stock we became.

The correct answer is "yes". Kennett facilitated the docklands, and he knew fullwell that that meant the end of Waverly.Hawkk said:
Kennett's nothing but an egotist. There are already signs that he will try to push Dermie and Dunstall off the board under the pretext that they have media commitments (would he prefer unemployed board members?) After he does that (and removes anyone else who isn't a yes-man), he'll effectively have complete control over the club. Then he'll use it as his private play-thing, enjoying irritating one set of fans or another, by changing jumpers, or the song, moving to the docklands, selling too many games, or just showing his ugly head in public and saying "Hawthorn believes this" when he means "I think this". (Remember John Elliot? The man who left Carlton with a wooden spoon or two, massive debt, and a 35,000 seat stadium they don't even play at. Hawthorn can less afford a bad president than Carlton could.)Fabulous said:The very reason Kennett has put up his hand is that he experienced how the club has lost its way under Dicker in the selfish direction you refer to. "Ego"? Can you please argue against the points I have made, rather than just accusing me of Jeffing my own post.Grendel said:No ego in that post...
That wouldn't surprise me if Kennett makes those changes. According to The Footy Show on Thursday, he has already said when/if he gets into power, players will not be allowed to be in the media doing things like guests on The Footy Show.MightyFighting said:Kennett's nothing but an egotist. He will lose the club supporters, and, considering everyone in Melbourne already has a team (even if they don't follow it), he couldn't possibly gain us very many. Besides, we wouldn't want the type of people who would be attracted to a person like Jeff to be supporters of our club. That kind of trash belongs at Essendon.
Well that'll be great for getting the club's exposure. Who needs players to be the face of the club anyway? Jeff would be a much more marketable image than Crawf and Vandenburg.Gilbert_Hodge said:That wouldn't surprise me if Kennett makes those changes. (And, yes, Kennett did make up the verb to Jeff.)
Foresight is not ego. I evaluated the evidence, including Jeff's history, and came up with some sensible predictions.Grendel said:Fwiw, I can't argue for or against the points you have made because NONE of them are yet to happen.
The whole of the post was about what you think will happen. You projected your thoughts (which is fine btw) on what you believe Kennett will do once he becomes President.
What is that if not ego?
Lol my bad, was a big night last night.MightyFighting said:It was sarcasm.![]()

This isn't about Liberal and Labor, but I'll bite this time: Look at a map of the eastern suburbs after the last state election, most of the Hawk areas fell to Labor after they realised that Tory scaremongering about Labor management was just that.medusala said:I am willing to bet that the overwhelming majority of hawk supporters voted for Kennett when he was premier
You may not look at what he did whilst a politician but most people will, including myself.Grendel said:Going to ask once and once only. No more about politics please.
The thing only becomes a slanging fest and this is meant to be about footy and only footy.
Next post/s will just be edited out or maybe shunted across to the S&C board that mention what the Libs did or didn't do that was right or wrong.
Stick to footy please.
Let's hope you're right, but I think we'll need some other strong personalities on the board to curb his excesses.Hawkk said:Fact is in my opinion Jeff will bring much more then he will detract from the Hawthorn Football Club. Thats my spin on things![]()
