RHETTROSPECTIVE EXCLUSIVE

BREAKING NEWS : KEVIN BARTLETT GAME DISCREPANCY.

In what is one of the most important discoveries in AFL football in the last few years, it is believed that as a result of a 'statistical copying error', Kevin Bartlett has been incorrectly credited with one extra game in his 18 year career.

The error is believed to date back to the original hand written player by player stats, provided by
R.H Campbell from 1950 onwards. In particular, it has been discovered that the Round 12 1965 entry
( Kevin Bartlett's first year) has been incorrectly copied into football archives from the original handwritten notes.
Upon accessing the original records, I discovered that it was Bill Barrott, not Kevin Bartlett, who took the field for the Round 12 game against Melbourne in 1965. However subsequent records have those two players statistics reversed.

Subsequently, Kevin Bartlett loses a game and finishes on 402 games , and Bill Barrott gains a game.

Furthermore it is believed the AFL, aware of this discrepancy for at least 3 weeks, will approach
Kevin Bartlett today after his morning show on SEN 1116, to advise him of the error.
The discovery, which was to be kept away from the media until a press conference later this afternoon, has amazing ramifications on AFL history as Kevin Bartlett supposedly became the first player to play 400 games when he ran out on Round 19 against Collingwood.

I have on good authority within the AFL, that the press conference this afternoon will announce:

the discovery of this discrepancy during a routine 'double checking' of all AFL Legends' careers.

that Kevin Bartlett's 400th game will now be listed in AFL Record books as
Round 20 vs St Kilda 1983 at Waverley Park.

that they have requested the Richmond Football Club Cheer Squad create a special banner in time for the Round 3 2004 game against St Kilda.

that they have asked Kevin Bartlett to appear prior to the Round 3 clash against St Kilda, (as that is now the team his 400th game was against 21 years ago) and run through a banner of similar size to that of his original 400th game to mark the new milestone.

that anyone who attended the Round 19 match vs. Collingwood, and can provide documentation of this (Football record from the day or Membership Ticket) can attend the Round 3 2004 clash free of charge.
It is believe more information regarding this will be announced approximately 6pm tonight.

On today of all days, eh? ;)

I'll never be able to think of KB in the same way again.

We'll create him a banner when he stops acting like a three year old

I could just imagine that if this really was the case, it would be Rhett running through the banner that day, in place of his old man.

And just to make it authentic, he'd have to trip over the banner supports, like his dad did on that day.

Sandeano,
u really west of Zanzibar ?

Go far enough and everything is west of Zanzibar.

Like Steven Wright once said - "Everything is in walking distance....just depends on how much spare time you have"

Thanx for clarifying that.

Personally, I wouldn't walk to the milk bar when I could drive. Nothing to do with spare time.:)
Steven Wright was off with the fairies when he came up with that one.

I was there at that game and have a photo of the Collingwood banner which i thought was charming. I'd post it if i knew how to post pix lol, but seeing i'm totally useless, this will have to do.

Pies banner reads:

Richmond for sale! Going cheap
One mediocre football club with very limited success
Comes with 20 well worn players incl. one rare antique
Has had many a ruthless ruler.
Once feared club
But now falling apart and need of urgent repairs

It has another line, but i can't read it.

They liked to give it to us on their banners then. Right when we had the trade war with them that we ultimately lost.
The one they did that sticks in my mind was at Waverley the first time we played them after they poached David Cloke and Geoff Raines. Mightn't be word perfect but it's etched on my brain so will be close. "Poor old Tigers. Lost in the woods without a cloke and it raines."
Scumbags. What's worse is it was pretty clever. Ouch!:(

What's the bet that there will be one poor sod who was taken in by that and will front up on Monday week with a tattered ticket in hand!

Then again, the article had me going right up until the point where he mentioned "that they have asked Kevin Bartlett to appear prior to the Round 3 clash against St Kilda". That was just too far fetched... KB turning up to something Richmond! :D
