So we look a lot at our own side in the changes thread, but I think we're at a stage now where we need a more opposition oriented selection policy. With a big chunk of players from our bottom 10 to half a dozen or so outside the team right now, there are a lot of possible changes we could make week to week.

There are some critical matchups for the Demons game that may necessitate changes if the match committee decided to go there, wondering on the thoughts of the board.

Primarily I'm thinking
- Who plays on Garlett? Does Cole have the pace, would Butler do better with the experience? Does Shepard take him
- Christian Pettracca is a notoriously difficult matchup because of his overhead ability. Do we play a taller player like Schofield on him, given they have a smaller forward line? If not, is there a place for Schofield this week? Does Yeo go with him in the air and try to run off him or does he play midfield again?
- If Gawn comes up, do we need another genuine ruck like Lycett to partner Vardy, or is he still underdone and we go with Petrie/McGovern again?
- If Kennedy doesn't make it, how do we structure the forward line? Can LeCras keep his spot?
- Does Hutchings tag Clayton Oliver? I'm not a fan of Hutchings inside the team if he's not tagging to be honest
-Who negates Neville Jettas defensive running? He's a great player, if he plays on LeCras he'll run away from him all night. Can Karps do this?
- Do we go head to head with Shuey on Jones?

Cole - Garlett
Sheppard - Petracca
Vardy & Petrie/McGovern - Gawn. Lycett to spend another week in the WAFL at least.
LeCras out for either Hill or Karpany
Hutchings to tag, but not Oliver. Not certain on whom just yet.

Cole stays in for mine, instruct him to stay goal side of Garlett at all costs.
I don't mind Schofield on Petracca when he plays forward but would prefer Yeo as a general midfield match-up. Head to head would be pretty exciting to watch.

I think Lycett needs another run in the WAFL, he's way underdone for mine.
Lets stick with the current set-up for the time being. Gawn will win most of the hit-out regardless, our mids should expect this...We should be able exploit an underdone Gawn in other areas, I'd like to see our (currently)fitter rucks push forward at all costs.

Lecras has to go for mine...Hill and Lecras are not dissimilar in the way the play but Hill has a lot more to offer at the moment.

Agreed on Hutchings, if he stays in he tags...Which I'd like him to do on Oliver, with a bit of spice/mongrel added on top.
If he does well, this will go a long way in helping our cause.

Shuey head to head with just about anyone would be a good result for us...No tagger please :-)

Hutchings should tag Viney I reckon

We also need to put some time into Jayden Hunt. Genuine line-breaker who offers them plenty of run from the backline

Back Cole in.

Jayden is a dangerous one. I question his kicking and decision making but he is as quick as anyone the competition, and we know what those types do to us. I'd probably have Cripps on him as he's the only one remotely quick up forward.

Just look at Guthrie on Thurs night.. ran away from our players a lot

Hutch to Petracca, esp. if Shuey is out. Priddis to have a rest with general soreness, put Redden in his spot & bring in Parto to run with Oliver.

Wouldnt be surprised if Schoey/Emac take Petracca when he is up forward. One thing is for sure, the unsociable Eagles' will have to turn up again as the Melbourne players have a lot of campaigneriness in them.

Shep to Garlett, putting a fourth gamer in Cole on perhaps the most in-form small in the comp is asking for trouble. Cole still plays though.
Schoey to play tight on Petracca, whoever is on him needs to be in lock-down model.

There are three guys we will need to keep an eye on especially, IMO.

Garlett up forward - he has been very good for the dees this year & small forwards have done very well against us recently. I'd back Cole in early, maybe wellingham if he comes in to replace Nelson (who would have been the ideal matchup)

Jayden hunt off HB. His pace and run is crucial to the dees, very similar to JJ at the dogs in that he sets up a lot of play with his run and speed. Whoever plays on him will need to keep him in close check but also be prepared to get into dangerous spots to hurt them going the other way. For mine, hutch isn't quick enough. I'm actually thinking Yeo may be a good matchup. He's got the speed, can hit the scoreboard as well.

They have a strong midfield, but it is Petracca the part time midfielder/part time forward that worries me. He doesn't run great distances but when he is up and about, things happen. I would be sending Shep to blanket him as he did Gray. If not Shep, maybe Schofield.

Hutch to man Jones if he plays. (Came off with some form of hamstring tightness today) Oliver is good in tight but doesn't kick an awful lot. Jones is the leader - so as they are away from home I think removing his influence may be a big step in quelling their midfield.

yeah Goody flagged this as his comeback game. Fancying our chances here actually we should have won last year and we delisted 1/7th of the team that played at Subi: it's going to be super tight
Should be drier this week too - that is in our favour.

I see Emac going to Petracca who's best work is overhead against undersized defenders. Emac is a gem with pace
I see his best work as winning ground level contests and bursting away towards goal. Dont reckon he's that big a threat aerially compared to most kpfs

Apart from Pedersen (and Gawn if he plays) Melbourne's forward line doesn't present huge threats from a contested marking perspective.

Reckon we will be very very silly to play 4 KPD again.

We have to be careful of bombing it into McDonald x 2/Frost/Hibberd/Hunt as they will cut us up on the rebound, get the ball over the top of the zone and Jeffy/Hannan/Bugg/Harmes will run into an open goal. That's how they'll get most of their goals against us.

Like Thursday night we need to put maximum pressure on everyone to force a rushed kick forward and then work the ball forward smartly

Forward line with Petrie worked a treat and allowed the team to deviate less from the normal game (with JK) than the week before without a proper FF target.

I'm not sure if they'll go in with many changes, will be interesting to see what happens to Watts and Jones. McGovern was good on ball but if they decide to bring JK in, I think a defender will be dropped and McGovern will go back to his normal position.

If Watts plays I want Schofield on him, seems the perfect match-up. On that basis, I'd have Yeo on Petracca and Sheppard can have first crack at Garlett.

I don't know if Lycett is fit enough, but Gawn's missed a decent chunk of footy too and won't have been able to run for a lot of that. I'd play Lycett but have the mids ready to start sharking Gawn's taps if we're getting pantsed.
