Key Position Forwards

Ive been saying it all along but if Jesse White isn't signing with the GC we should really take a good look at him.

You have seen what Hall can do this year, old age and all, when he gets to play in a free wheeling team compared to Sydney's style of play. White could very well turn into our missing link with the quick delivery he will get from our midfield.

Plus, he can play ruck also.
I totally agree.

As someone said earlier, i would be willing to part with pick 12 if it meant snaring jesse white. He could not be the more perfect player we need, a big bodied stay-at-home forward with the ability to pinch hit in the ruck (although more suited up forward).

A deal like pick 12 + steak knives for White would probably be taken by them i feel and some may say we are getting the raw end of that but tough trades like that to fill needs will make us a far better side IMO.

I endorse that view as well. White would be fantastic for us.

I like this :)
Also basing on that Bailey wants Jamar to spend time up forward aswell having White and Jamar swapping around on the field would be better then having Jamar on the bench.
By the way how old is Jesse White?

I stand to be corrected but if GC sign Bard Miller he should count as our "uncontracted" player?? Just because we dont intend to resign him doesn't mean that he's not currently an uncontracted Melbourne player until December 31st, 2010.
Miller will have to be delisted before Nov 18 for the NAB Draft so I can't see why the Suns couldn't take him with 10 players that aren't on a list that have nominated for NAB draft before. The deadline is for Nov 30.

we need to draft a young, talented KPF, Jesse White has done nothing of note in his career, his stats are incredibly underwhelming to say the least, sydney would not part with a young KPF in any case, he played the majority of this years and last years games... we will be much better off if we stick to our development path and draft a good young KPF... unless we find a 'perfect trade' for an experience KPF/Ruck.... but i don't think we should trade pick 12

Can you name a decent KPF in this draft that can slot in the team in a couple years time with Watts and be dominate?

Lynch, Cook or Darling

Frawley and J. Reiwoldt show that a decent draft pick can produce great talent, Lynch especially could be anything.

Cook is probably the safest bet out of the lot, has a lot of development and has done very well in Junior levels, Darling has limited development (supposedly) but i think he would also be a great option, Lynch would be my preference, he has some x-factor and his performances have improved significantly the more he has been exposed to elite junior footy....

Lycett is another very good option

Even if we don't draft a KPF i don't like trading our first draft pick, we have benefited from other clubs making that mistake recently (Grimes and Gys)

(all of those bar darling, would need 3 years in the system)

I think i saw Darling only stands at 190cm?
Would he be a bit small?
Id prefer Lynch then Cook, why not take a risk in a draft that is simply there to help build Gold Coast. No one could critic a team picking someone risky in the next couple years with the new teams coming in.

he's only a centimetre or two shorter than Fev, who has probably been the most prolific forward of the last 5 years

Sam Day, Daniel Gorringe, Tom Lynch, Jack Darling, Lucas Cook.. all probably first rounders.

Day, Gorringe znd possibly Lynch will be gone unless we can upgrade pick 12.

I suspect we will be choosing between Cook, Darling, Lycett - or best available which will be a midfielder.

Why do I have the feeling our club will draft someone we defo do not want?

I am starting to feel like we will probably go best available and take a midfielder. Cook is the most likely if we go tall imo.

Not from the draft, but David Hale from the roos, can play forward and ruck. what this does is allows Jamar to rest, and rotate forward which Bailey has said he enjoys doing but cant because we lack the ruck depth..... CHF and then a HAle or similar only need sto chip in with 40 goals a year to help out and be a target.

I like hale because he kills to birds with one stone, then a third bird when we get rid on PJ

No love for Taylor Walker it seems. Dunno about his contract situation, but the club should get in his ear and force a trade with Adelaide for him. Better prospect as a key forward than Jesse White.

Lots of interest in Taylor Walker, but he would cost us way to much to convince Adelaide to trade him. Unless he walks then I see a Chris Judd style trade required. And even if he did walk it would turn into a bidding war and end but costing us a very good player plus a pick.

That said I would love him down at the dee's, he is exactly the type of player and at the right age to suit our needs.

Although I read he and Craig don't get on, and Bails strikes me as a similar type to Craig.

Yeah I definitely agree that he would cost us overs. Although I'd seriously consider trading pick 12 in for him. Not with a player though.

No guarantees in a player like Shaun McKernan, but he could be worth a look at for a key forward post.

TEX would cost us 2 first rounders. We'd need to get a first rounder for a Warnock+pick trade and offer it up. Even then I doubt they'd want to play ball.

McKernan may be of interest to us, I wouldn't want to offer up P12 though.

I can't belive im typing this, but what about Tom Hawkins?

Looks a little out sorts at the Cats and could use a fresh start as a KPF in his own right, not a ruckman...

I think he'd be a great fit if we could get him, but there's no way Geelong would look to trade him, with Mooney on his last legs and Podsiadly at 29, they don't seem to have much in the way of young KPF stocks apart from him (and the perennially injured Mitch Brown).

Spudahawk is terrible. If he cant get a kick (which he cant) in that side i cant see him playing any better for us.

i would think hawkins would do well at melbourne, young team where he would probably be a leader, especially in the forwardline, we know he has the talent, just the application needs to be fixed

I know with Leigh Brown playing the football that he is ATM everybody probably thinks they can make a footballer out of anyone now but seriously is there a worse footballer in the AFL than Hawkins? The only thing he has going for him is that he plays for Geelong, he is soft, can't kick, can't mark and is slow.

It makes me laugh when people say that players playing for ordinary teams can't get a game for Geelong when Hawkins does. The main thing that ruined Hawkins career was Carroll getting the ass, he hasn't had a kick since.

I agree Little Stinga
Hawkins is ordinary, I have watched him all year.
In a poor team he would be playing in the reserves,
Week after Week he gets the third or fourth best defender in the Geelong forward line and still does at best an average job.
Last night he had a few mates but 1 kick was his total!
No fire in him that I see.
If ablett goes to the GC there will be a few Geelong players wondering were the kicks into the forward line have gone.
Hawkins will struggle.

I love Taylor Walker. He'll be on of the best forwards in the league, and will probably win a few Colemans. Fantastic kick at goal as well, he and Jack Watts would be awesome.
