What the hell is up with our kick ins???

We have never really done this very well, even under Daniher - I don't even know who I would prefer to bring it back into play.

Davey is the only one I feel comfortable with the job but we need him further up field.

Who can we groom to have this position? Grimes? Strauss? Blease?

Probably Strauss would be the one. I think its where we unfourtunately miss Wheatley, as least he would load up and kick it 60 m to a contest. I think we do ourselves no favour by waiting for the designated kicker ( when we place it back on the ground) the rule is there to be used in a quick fashion why can we just not do it fast!

Been tearing my hair out about this for at least a decade. We've always been hideous at them and I just can't work out how other teams do it so well and we don't.

Despite the rise on Frawley, I question the wisdom associated with him taking the kick-ins. I don't think his technique is really the best when it comes to this role.

If I was to pick someone for the future, Strauss would be the one, as he is a great user of the ball and will probably end up playing as a playmaker from HB.

I think it is about developing lots of options for doing it. Hopefully Strauss and Bennell will cement positions next year meaning that one of them is always close to goal for the quick kick in. Other options are Garland and Grimes they are generally decent at hitting targets.

We just need to get the ball back into play quicker, other teams have a player designated to picking the ball up when players have set shots so that they can get the rebound, that it what we need to work on.

spot on! the amount of close games where i have had to literally cover my eyes when we kick in... remember when big al nicholson would end up with the ball every now and then? opposition players would lick their lips!

at least the new rushed behind rule means (generally speaking) less kick-ins!

We've been awful at them for as long as I can remember. Strauss will likely wind up our Lindsey Gilbee and be the main kicker-in. Garland, Grimes, Davey will all rotate through also I'd think.
What shits me about it is the lack of any structure or tactics to it. We have someone slowly wander over, then hit whoever he can 15 metres away. THen stand there until forced to play on, kick it to a poor contest usually involving the oppositions ruckman, and watch it come straight back. The coaching staff need to come up with some new tactics, and the midfield need to be on the ball and awake to it. Currently they do not offer nearly enough options for the kick outs.

Presumably this is one area where Scully will be of assistance (if we do get him), at least indirectly, by freeing up Davey or Grimes to take that job more often....
