God he impressed me tonight his endeavour & skill level was really good & i think the swans have found a player. Also liked Moore aswell looks like he has abit of spunk about him.

McVeigh also played well - which will serve up quite a bit of humble pie for his many detractors on this board. I hope he has a blinder this year as he's had a LOT of time to develop his potential.

Glad you made this point Roy Boys because I was thinking the same thing. He showed a lot of fight and potential on a night were as a team we really let ourselves down...

Fantastic to watch, but is he going to play the whole season? I have this horrible (though totally understandable) fear that like all previous young players he'll be rotated in and out of the team to "prepare" him for senior football.

I hope your wrong, he was the BOG imo, no reason to get rid of him, if i was Crouch id be worried.

It's hard to tell how many games he'll play this year. If he continues on from the way he was playing last night then there's no way that he'll be dropped, but he's young and consistency will probably be an issue, which is expected.. none of us can expect him to play like that every week. I really hope he plays 14+ games this season.

Bevan, McVeigh and Schneider all pretty much cemented a position in the team in their second years. Keiran's now into his third and if his fitness and strength are good enough (and they look to be) I don't see any reason why he won't be picked on form and keep his spot if he warrants it.

I'll be incredibly annoyed if Jack isnt in next weeks team. He was class yesterday.

I don't think there's any chance of Jack not being in next week's team. He was clearly one of the best handful. Moore too.

I'd also be surprised if Bird isn't persisted with for a month or so at least. I think that after the raps Roos has given him, he won't be hasty in judging how ready he is to step up.

I wasn't making any suggestion he'd be dropped based on performance - I voted him BOG or very close to it. But good to hear everyone thinks Roos will persist with him instead of one of certain dreadfully limited midfield players.

mcveigh played okay, but let's not get carried away
i'm one of his detractors and i acknowledge he worked and ran hard, but let's get back to who this thread is about
jack was a revelation, absolutely brilliant in parts, and his can tackle and apply pressure defensively too
has improved enormously on what he looked like early last season
good on him, we have a real good one here
and both bird and moore must be persisted with, they'll improve

all three MUST play next week
this is not some blind hope, it is necessity
jack was outstanding, he's a given; moore got better as the game went on, there'd be many more ahead of him for the chopping block if it comes to that; Bird showed a great attitude in the face of a bad debut, he kept trying, and it would be a cruel shame and a dire dereliction of his responsibilities to an outstanding young prospect if Roos drops Bird this week

but geez, on topic, how good was jack!??!

i went to the game and jack was definitely our best player. His tackles were always strong and he never let anyone get through him. He's actually quite quick and provided good run through the half back line and midfield. Did you see his kick to Barry Hall to set him up for a goal- that was Adam Goodes style. :)

If it was Adam Goodes style the ball would have gone a metre over Barry Hall's head.

The Swans clearly have a new Jared Crouch in Jack, who has all the traits to be an effective, disciplined and attacking tagger.

It means Crouch, now 30, could struggle to break back into the team this year after injuries restricted the once- resilient tagger to just eight games last year. Ever since his record-setting streak of 194 consecutive games came to an end in 2006, Crouch has battled injuries and has already done his hamstring twice during the pre-season this year.

Swans co-captain Brett Kirk, who is also Jack's mentor at the club, believes his pupil is tailor-made for the tagging role that Crouch had made his own for so long.

"That's where we are looking to play him at," Kirk said. "Kieren can play down back on a quicker type or he can come into the midfield and shut someone down.
Is an exert from article.

Personally not what im really wanting to see him become..
Even though it does go onto him winning the ball in one on one contests, it seems that it continues the trend of negative footy..

totally agree
jack has shown he's far more than a tagger, and if he was being schooled as a tagger as part of an overall apprenticeship, he's well beyond that now
it would be cruel to him and the team to stop him progressing from what he did on saturday, as an obviously tough, highly skilled creative ball player

Exactly, last year i could easily have accepted him being blooded as a tagger, but this year is totally different.
Last week it was only him, Buchanon, and Moore that were showing any signs of class through the middle.
I have nothing against him being used in a defensive role but to be a tagger week in week out, come on we got a star in the making..

:eek::eek:

Oh my god, talk about G forces. Mattner's really strong to pull that one off. God, his face got mutilated for a split second. :thumbsu:

After looking at it for the second time, I think thats photoshopped. Either way, its funny.
