Oh, but that's right...injuries aren't an excuse.

For the record, I was barracking for you guys, despite all the Lions fans sitting around me, including my dad, threatening to lynch me. :D

Oh just relax. That was a good game, despite the margin. I wouldn't have been too keen to be out there in this god-awful weather.

From my point of view, Geelong weren't all that bad. Soundly beaten by a better side, yes. But disgraced? No. Couple of points:

- Geelong had the intensity in the packs, but refused to man up.

- No marking targets in the forward line. What was Tom Harley doing down there? Is he injured or did you just need somebody, anybody, to take a mark?

- Geelong this year have copped the longest and most ridiculous bout of crap, one-sided umpiring I have ever seen. No wonder you hate those idiots with such intensity!

Thanks Christ that an opposition supporter has seen, as I have seen for the last number of weeks, absolutely ridiculous decisions get paid against us and blatant free kicks (including when Playfair had his jaw broken & when young Tom got cleaned up) not paid to us. I know that the umpires are not to blame for how we over all perform, but they do give our opposition at least 3 goals a game.

I was actually thinking of posting a thread on the St Kilda board to do with the whole injuries as an excuse issue. Just from watching todays game I got a better understanding of what St Kilda supporters must have gone through when they played us.

As I have posted before you cannot hope to cover the loss of 5-6 top class players (1-2 maybe but not 5-6) with back up fringe players no matter how good your depth is. Loss of form is inevitable :(

Don't worry you will bounce back - it could be a blessing in disguise come finals time once your players have recovered as they will be fresh and revitalised and not tired and buggered due to playing 22 H&A games - its a very long season.

As I recall, when Geelong played St Kilda, Bomber Thompson said you guys would have won the game with a full list - it was Grant Thomas that wouldn't use injuries as an excuse. They were both very complimentary of each other at the time...

Just a memory...

Yeah, it sucks. I felt really bad for the Cats and their supporters actually, because I knew exactly how you'd all be feeling.

And yes, Viking, I remember Bomber and GT were pretty nice to each other after the Saints/Cats game. Unfortunately, not a lot of Cats supporters (at the time) shared his view. Which I guess is understandable. But like you said yourself, now you have more of an idea.

The difference between an excuse and a reason. One asks for a lighter examination of performance the other points out the the area of deficiency.
The reason we lost is our inability to cover our injuries. I seek no redeption. No free pass. We lost. Just like the Saints lost to us.
In the end , you have 22 chances to win as many possible with whatever is available at the time, for the chance to participate in Sept.
