i give him two weeks, to be playing closer to home and get some games in, if he doesn't step up then well as much as i hate to say it, Kosi is gone :(

Easy to sink the boot in, and he certainly should've held that last mark, but it wasn't a game for tall forwards. Next week will be a much better indicator, in the dry with (hopefully) much better delivery.

Why would it be a better indicator? The big finals are played outside in the elements be it rain, hail or shine.

...i'd like all the kosi-booters to remember that he had one game of league footy in him this season before last night. He looked like a bloke lacking match practice....... that was it and that explains last night.
and he had terrible kicks inside 50 directed to him. I think you can criticise kosi a bit but it misses the point that if he had a few more half decent kicks then he may have taken a few more marks and kicked more goals.

make all the excuses you want for him tonight. the fact is he has gone missing in a majority of the games for the majority of his career. even last year with the entire team in career best form he still couldn't get a kick in about half the games he played.

the bloke is big, strong, a great contested mark and a big long kick. there is no reason he shouldn't kick at least 2-3 goals a game from full forward, more with riewoldt out. we've all been waiting for his entire career for him to play to his full potential, but when his 'full potential' happens once every ten games u have to wonder whether his full potential is those big games he has every now and then on a hack opponent from a bottom 8 team, or the other 90% of games he plays. I've always thought it was stupid for people to call him overrated when everyone knows that he's an average player with star potential. But I realised last night maybe we're overrating him simply by continuing to think he has star potential.

we've been waiting for the bloke to fire up for half a decade and he still hasn't. and over the last couple of years he's got a lot more leeway because we haven't had any players who were realistically likely to play better than him. but honestly would they do any worse than him? at the very least a natural forward needs to come in so when kosi inevitably goes missing next week can chuck him in the ruck or around the ground and still have a natural big forward to kick to. I really, really hope he proves me wrong and finally plays like it seems like he should but honestly i think reiwoldts absence will expose him severely.

something has to change next week because the last few times we've played the dogs lake has not only given kosi an absolute thrashing but also taken a heap of marks and effectively been a loose man in defence because kosi was so harmless

People were pretty quick to bag Pattison and declare that he should never be selected again, after one game.
The trouble with Kosi is that its nothing to do with effort, he tries hard. Its to do with confidence, and to me the more that is placed on his shoulders the more he's likely to stuff up.

At Etihad play him forward
At MCG play him mostly forward with stints rucking around the ground
Wet games play him rucking and deep forward

Cant really do much with him he obviously cant learn game awareness or forward pressure just have to manage him week by week.
It's always about his starts. If he kicks a couple of early goals I know we are going to win.

It was wet.
I agree, Kildonian - wet, cold, insipid, depressing...

... wait, are you talking about the weather, or Koschitzke's attitude?

Look, the opening bit by ten summed it up for me. All that potential and promise and expectation - from the Rising Star to Leowe giving him his jumper - wasted.

The other thing about that opening bit was that it talked about the responsibility Kosi had. With his best friend out, he had the chance to shine - he dishonored that chance. Nick had said on MMM that his mate Kosi was fired up to get back out there and play - he looked like he couldn't give a rats. He had just been suspended for reckless, barrelling play - and within a few minutes, he was doing the same irresponsible smacking into players, risking injury or further suspension when the team needs him to stay on the park and be effective.

Nick, or any decent well-payed forward, would have taken those marks in the last quarter, because they would have known how much they mattered, and they would have given a stuff.

He will not play well against Lake. We will be lucky to score 4 goals against the Doggies, and he will get none of them. Yet again, just like the other night, Milne and Schneider will be expected to carry all the responsibility themselves - Kosi has no sense of responsibility whatsoever. And we will lose.

The saddest part isn't the neverending torrent of excuses that flow down River Koschitzke. The saddest part is that Ross has absolutely no choice but to play him. Stanley is far too young to be the sole target. Lynch is not the right height. Cahill is still too raw. McEvoy isn't a forward. Pattison is a bad ruck. Fisher is a backman. Goddard is needed everywhere else. So that leaves us with nobody. That leaves us with JK. Next year will be great, because Ross's obvious plan to find Kosi's replacement will have finally been achieved. Until then, it's just string together a enough wins to try to scrape into 5 or 6, and wait until Nick comes back to save the day.

Uughh...

I've had enough of defending him too.

Not only did he drop sitters and not find the footy at all, but his defensive pressure was absolutely non-exsistant. He just allowed his player to run all over the ground.

Needs to be dropped. Play Goddard as our sole forward. It's proven it works, unlike Kosi.

Rethink though. Throw useless frustration/emotion in bin, use logic.

OK
Kosi has kicked bags of 4 , 5 and 6 as recently as last year.
Gardiner has kicked 5 once (WC) and 4 twice ( 1 WC, 1 Saints).
Pattison has kicked 2.
McEvoy has kicked 1.
The Sams have kicked 2 on occassion ( but always look better sneaking up rather than trying to be a forward ).

S***, Kosi is our best.
That means we keep him in. No Question.

This doesn't mean we shouldn't explore other forward options to play alongside him, but Kosi should not be dropped.

PS what are you on? I feel like slashing my wrists. Its not that bad. Big win coming up this week and 4 goals to Kosi.

I think he's too focussed on being physical at present. He's more effective when he concentrates on hitting the ball hard.

Best comment in this thread by far...

He realises the pressue out there, he uis trying, but uinfortunately, he hasnt (and nor have we) realsied that the expetations are too high, and he isnt the player we knew he COULD have been

That, and for some reason, he was far up the ground Sat night

Sit him in the square

Kick it to him,

Watch in awe - if he is a 1 trick pony, then let the man do what he is best at.

No real reason I posted this (just thought it was relevant to the thread):

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/make-koschitzke-saints-no1-ruckman-thomas-20100426-tnat.html

While Thomas, in his time at Moorabbin, tended to keep Koschitzke out of the ruck, often citing a need to protect his body, he believes the time for a permanent role switch has come.

Koschitzke's aggression, athleticism and ability to read the play make him a superior option to former All Australians Gardiner and King, according to Thomas.

Im a fan of the big guy. Yeah he can put out some ordinary performances along with the good ones.
What I have seen from the Saints this year and last is that they win as a team and lose as a team. I dont think they would be placing it on one player.

Im the first to admit Im blindly loyal to the red, white and black and my soft spot for the big guy:heart: might cause me to look more favourably on him.

I have faith that Kosi has more to show us, hopefully that will be this Friday night.

Just mho, Im completely unable to be impartial though

I think next game he should stop wearing the rubber chest piece. The ball kept bouncing off his chest. It may have been wet but the player he was on had 30 poss. I would like to see him in the ruck. We need to find someone from the twos and quick or we will be history this year.

Should have traded him years ago. Could have really gone for Fevola when he was on the market now that I think about it.

I was having this discussion with my old man on the weekend. The problem I see now is that Kosi's market value would have dropped. As bigger tool as Fev is, its undeniable that he's the most dangerous FF in the league. We took a punt on Lovett, a known naughty boy. I think a punt on Fev woulda been a better option. Don't wanna go over old ground, millions of posts have debated this but I cant help but think we've missed the missing link. J Brown & Fevola are very damaging. Reiwoldt Fevola combo.... We can only dream about it now....unless Fev gets sacked from Brisbane then we can have another crack:D

I feel a little less rash a few days after the loss. I seem to remember Kosi losing some touch when he split the webbing on his hand last year, I wonder if he needs a big game to break out of it?

I don't like his chances against Lake. Lake rarely went to Reiwoldt anyway, so Kosi should be about average against the Dogs. I would still like to seem him in the ruck (which I wrote before Thomas came on Big Footy and stole my idea!) to get him into the game. Float him across half back to take a few marks with an uninpeeded (spelling?) run to get some touch back.

I did not have the horror of watching the game last week. Was he leeding properly or calling for the ball in the pack? That is the most worrying part about his forward line prowess, he needs to create his own chances, not catch the bomb. Catch da bomb - could be a new rap song!
