It seems the stories of revolts were true after all. Kouta reveals in his book that he in fact lead the revolt to get Denis the bullet. Lance and Stevo involved as well. Very damming report.

Looks like I will have to purchase a copy. Seems like a great read from those snippets.

More, I want more! I respect Pagan as a coach, but everyone knew he had to go. Dissapointed in what I read here about him though...

This could also mean more positives for on-field improvements, if the players felt that strongly, then perhaps they are pumped to start the pre-season, and will start next year, fresher and hungrier than ever....we already saw this when Ratts took over, but obviously it was too late in the year to change the players spirits dramatically.

Damn it... looks like I am going to have to get one of my workmates wife to order me a copy of it through the bookstore she works in over here...

Alternatively if someone can find an online shop that is stocking them then send me a PM with the link :D

Always knew that the players were disillusioned with pago-pago, but not to that sort of extent.

I wonder if the other lads are going to come out in support now.

I hated Pagan

The players hated him

The fans hated him

The fans could see the players hated him

Everyone could see his tactics where from a past era. Kick long at all costs .....Oh dear

Why did the board not act sooner

It is a disgrace that he wasnt sacked earlier, but maybe the club didnt have the cash to pay him out.

Pagans reign was the bleakest time in the history of our club, and he just compounded the awful situation the club was in when he arrived.

We are just damn lucky we have been able to build our list and not lose any more players in recent times.

I feel for the players that had to endure him and Im sure the ones that remain will enjoy their footy a lot more under Ratts.

I hope they make the finals and Get the end of season trip of a lifetime as promised by RP

What a disgusting way to treat Kouta

Pagan was a football nazi

Wow, that's probably the best article I've read all year.

Kouta voiced himself in a very good manner. He was absolutely scathing, but he didn't act outwardly offensive, and used a number of key moments to back-up the story. It's a shame nothing came earlier, and I wonder what would've happened if Brittain stayed on.

I really love kouta. He bleeds navey blue. He's the type of guy that should be kept around the club, not sure doing what though.

totlly agree, if britto styed on, we wold be 3x better off now than last yr - 2 yrs ago. I think, however, that kouta might have had some help writing this ;).

I have not read to book, only what is in the paper.

Pagan should not be excused from critisism or blame for his time at carlton and the going's on at princes park during his time.

from reading the extracts in today's papers, it shows as bad as pagan was/may have been, the playing group were just as responsible for our poor performances.

"we used to sit around talking about how bad the gameplan was"

if the players had of spent as much time trying to follow instructions and execute the gameplan than they did complaing about it, things may have turned out different.

FFS- kouta was a champion player, but reading the extracts from his book, IMO he was not a true leader, he should have been uniting the playing group and takig action on the field, rather than doing some of his finest work off it.

shows once ratten, hickmott, mckay retired, how big a void was left in our leadership ranks.

Explains why Beaumont and Murphy were traded within his first 12 months at the club......

Everyone knows Pagan was a w***er and no one liked him.

We all knew this was true.
It stood out like dogs' balls.
How those idiots in charge let it fester for nearly 4 years is a disgrace.
THat fool Malouf just said Pagan had redeeming features such as
MARKETING & MEMBERSHIP
LMFAO
Talk about the blind leading the blind
Now lets close this deplorable chapter in our history
and MOVE ON.

Go Blues

i didnt think i could have any more respect for the great man Kouta!!

but after reading this article i have even more

i am glad someone mentioned the crap that went on!!!

i do feel for some players that careers were ruined under Pagan. But i am sure most players are more than welcome back to Princes Park

if i was Ratts, any player that played under Pagan while at the Blues should be a of the circle and part of the signing of the song during Round 1 next year when we win and gain THE RESPECT BACK!!!

Why did they leave??
Add Hulme, Beaumont.
Their value was more off the field. Two of the most popular players at the club.
If people don't know all this is what drove Campo away they're "dreamin"
Some will say its unfair. This was common knowledge in the footy world.
Please note Pagan was not mentioned in regards any jobs.

Thank you Kouta for finally telling the Carlton faithful what we all suspected. Pagan was a tool and no body wanted him there. Thank you Dick Pratt for coming in and giving the old senile toss pot his money.

Dishonourable mentions go to Graham Smorgan for calling himself a Carlton supporter, hosting the player on his boat and then crying poor, we cant afford to sack him...

Pagan gone, Ratts is more in touch with the new style needed to win premierships, we have the list, they'll have another preseason and I look forward to many great wins in '08! :thumbsu:

Pagan... I'm sick to think I supported you up to earlier this year.

I hope you never set foot in another club again.. okay you're allowed to go to Collingwood, Richmond or Essendon.

It's just staggering to think how inept our board has been... in fact wtf was Sticks doing all this time... seriously why did he support Pagan for so long?

He was a true leader.

On behalf of the players he went above the coach to try and rectify the dissent. He was doing what a good captain does and that is listening to his players and their distress over the situation and he tried to rectify it. The president is the highest point he could go (smorgan at the time) the fact that he didn't go to the media then and create a massive PR situation for the club is commendable. The fact that he then attempted to bring the playing group together to unite them to power on shows he was a leader. To hang around after the scathing comments in his 200th game shows he is true Navy Blue at heart... shame on you for questioning one of our true champions when his best intentions are for the Carlton well being!

Like I've been saying all along.... Add McKernan and Allan to that group as well.

I'm proud to have jumped off Pagan through mid-2005..

yeh it just shows how bad pagan was from a players perspective
feel for the guys whole left because of him
he should't have coached past end of 2005

Even without playing the blame game, it shows what a horrific mess the Blues were for years. You just CANNOT have the players hating/not respecting the coach, failed attempts to remove him, etc. Gawd, we were clearly the worst club in the league at the time, and I do NOT just mean on the field. What a freakin' mess.

Hopefully the all new, shiny board/coach/young list really are the real deal and lead us out of that mudhole FOREVER.

I think we've got the right people there. I mean... I like Ratten and Icke going over to EPL teams - that is a great idea, seeing how mega-professional teams with mega-budgets do things.

Bloody hell. I shudder to think about how appalling Carlton has been. Focus on the future...

Couldn't have put it any better myself!

Good on Kouta for finally blowing the whistle on Pagan. We all knew it! Kouta has confirmed it :)

Some blame should be directed at Pagan because of his old coaching style which was totally different to what we were doing under Parkin and Brittain. But Pagan NEVER HAD A CHANCE AT CARLTON..

Pagan walked in the door and Brittain had just won our first wooden spoon , we had a very old list and a poor quality list of players. Then Bang!! we lose Draft picks for the next 2 years and to make matters worse, players like Ratten, Hickmott and McKay were forced into early retirements with injuries.

Yes Pagan didn't achieve much at Carlton except one year but why apart from losing draft picks , the main problem was was our off-field leadership and the massive debt we had .We fell light years behind every other club . We didn't have the right people in running the club off-field and the main problem is no one wanted to come to Carlton.

And what is turning around our club? Pratt and his money . First thing he does, he goes for the best CEO in the business and that was Cook or Swan, and gets Swan in the end . And from that he has gotten other people in the club like Icke and is spending money to get Carlton up with the likes of West Coast and Collingwood ..

With players like Murphy , McKernan , Beaumont , Campo & Allan all shown the door and went to other clubs , in the end Pagan proven correct in his decision with these players because did they do anything at the clubs they went to ? NO

Who was to blame for Carlton's demise for most of this decade?
Simple John Elliot !
Came to Carlton after we had just won 3 GF in 4 years , might have been 4 if we didn't have Percy in 80
So when Elliot came in, we were winners, and well hated:D , a powerhouse
And slowly Elliot let club fall back to the pack because of his attention seeking and fighting with the AFL. He had no plans for the future of the club except leaving his name on a grandstand but really it was a massive weight on our backs of debt .No plan for someone to take over in the future after him , Why? because he wanted to be there till the day he died .
And in the late 90's the rot set in really, we had big name players who Elliot decided we will let these Champions decide themselves when they should leave the game . So players in the late 90's were allowed to retire at their time and were being paid still at top dollar as if they were still in their prime.
Thats when the money in bags were being passed around and players like Hamill our future were being told to F##k off

Like i said Pagan never had a chance and in the end he was left with a broken down superstar in Kouta who had no leadership himself and a Fat guy called Whitnall who was always going to be washed up at 25 , after a few years of hard knocks on the body and legs ......

injuries caught up with ratten and hickmott

Please note hulme also wasn't picked up or considered by any other club once he left carlton.
