Welcome Stephenson, Murphy and Brown.

Wrapt to have Stephenson and Murphy.

Im just miffed that we didnt take any kpp

What gives?

Obviously Dekka hasnt heard of the term

1. Good ones not at our picks
2. Modern game is moving away from KPP - we may only see one tall at each end plus a ruck, and a fleet of 190cm types in between (who can run like the wind)

AFL tactics are changing at a rapid rate

How many teams have two gun talls anymore at one end of the park?

Maybe they mite try to turn one of sier or wills into one, they have the size
They should convert Scharenberg to be a KPP. He's the same height as Lynden Dunn and he is too slow to play on fast half forwards. Tell him to hit the gym and build up muscle. I think he can still be a marking intercept player when playing as a KPP. Just look at Rance.

shaz, he is a touch slow, Rance is definitely not slow.

Agree.

Assuming they convert Moore into a swingman like Reid and not a pernanent backman.. we only have McLarty as a developing KPD heading into 2017. And its 50-50 whether he makes it and plays regular senior footy at all, let alone provides adequate senior depth in 2018.

Means we are relying on Reid, Dunn and to a lesser extent Goldsack (as he plays taller and more physical than Langdon and Schaz).... relying on these ageing and battle worn three to stay fit and play 2018 and beyond really.

Bit of a worry considering any potential KPD taken in next 2018 draft will take a season or two to bulk up and develop.
Like wise our KPF stocks are only Moore, Reid and Cox. If we do land Lynch, he won't be available til 2019.

Overall with Keeffe, White, Schade all gone and with no replacements we have less KPP depth than 2016 season.

Not convinced we will pick up a ready made KPD or KPF in the rookie draft.

And whilst everyone seems to rate Murphy... we already have good depth in mid sized forwards and mid sized backs. As well as Elliot (who plays tall) and Fasolo... we have just signed Crocker (x 2 years) and have Mayne for at least another year or two. Down back it's a similar story... we have Howe, Schaz, Langdon as intercept marks.

I worry about list management. Too many inside mids and mid sized forwards and defenders.... not enough developing and ready made KPP in my opinion.

We obviously rated Stephenson ahead of Naughton and Fogarty and took best available.

As I've stated elsewhere I doubt we were expecting Murphy to survive until 38 and most likely would have selected him ahead of any kp prospects anyway given how high we most likely rated him.

The fact that all of Brander, Balta, Coleman-Jones, Allen, Taylor, Clavarino and Petty were gone by 38 left little on the table anyway so it would have been an easy call for Hine I imagine and a fortunate one.

Talls in the modern game are just as important as they always have been.

Of the finalists this year (based on lineups in rd 1):

Adelaide: Lever, Talia, Hartigan, Jacobs, Walker and Jenkins
GWS: Tomlinson, Davis, Mumford, Cameron, Patton and Lobb
Geelong: Lonergan, Henderson, Smith, Blicavs, Hawkins and Taylor
Richmond: Rance, Astbury, Nankervis and Riewoldt
Sydney: Grundy, Franklin, Sinclair and Naismith
Essendon: Hartley, Hurley, Bellchambers, Stewart and Daniher
Port; Clurey, Marshall, Ryder, Westhoff and Dixon
WCE; Mackenzie, McGovern, Petrie, Vardy, Darling and Kennedy.

Alive and well in the best teams in league.

Either Hine can't identify any good KPPs or hidden gems, or there were just not any worth taking.

There's no doubt they're saving something for next year's draft apparently supposed to have a stack of KPP talent and let's not forget the ace that is Tom Lynch.

I don't see many match winners (yeah freak Buddy) in the sense they tore a finals match up and carried the team to victory... it's the Dusty Martin's and Dangerfield's that are doing that now, you can probably get away with just 2 keys (one each end) and a ruck as long as they are mustard

Good job we traded out our second round pick then. Hope we learn that lesson. Oh no we did it again next year so we can get points to cover academy and f/s picks

While I agree we are short and it would be great to have a couple more good young kpps coming through the answer is pretty simple and that is there wasn’t any good enough for the picks we had.

Stephenson was best available and also fills s big need for us due to our predictable and one paced midfield and from 39 onwards there was nothing of any quality.

No point taking a Kpp if you don’t like the chances of them making it.

There is meant to be a lot in next years draft so hopefully we snag a good one.

Went through and removed the ruckmen and third tall types that aren't really KPPs (considering that we're more than sorted for those, and therefore are irrelevant to the discussion).

We do need a KPP or two to develop, but we're not as far off as you might think. Dunn and Reid are old, and we'd be hoping that McLarty can develop into replacing one of them and Moore is set to become a 10 year player for us.

Brody Mihocek was talked about as a mature age recruit from the VFL that we may be interested in, and there are still some undrafted underage KPPs that we might look at in the rookie draft, such as Jordan Butts, Hayden McLean and Nathan Kreuger, just off the top of my head.

Mihocek and McLean, for instance, would give us a ready to play KPD and a developing KPF to add to our list, so it's worth waiting to see where we're at on Monday night.

Surely you’d prefer to take a prospect rather than a Jessie White... you have to take what is there these days.

Richmond won a premiership last year with a small forward set up.

In any case I back Cox to deliver next year and with a full preseason to get games also.

fair enough but I rate Butts and hope we pick him up in rookie draft and we better have lynch in the bag next year

We obviously didn't rate the KPPs that high this year, the ones we may have wanted (players like Balta, Petty, Taylor) were all gone at 38 anyway. Can't do much about that.

The way in which we drafted though makes me think we are thinking we are a decent chance in landing Lynch.

I think if we could get Jordan Butts we will have had a successful draft,I think we have anyway but I think Butts would be the cherry on top (much like Kirby was last Year).I would have preferred Ramsay before Oxley as a rookie option myself but whats done is done.
