Mitch Brown v Ben Reid v Tippett v Riewoldt ??

it seems that the National Champs have confirmed a few reps and that most of the experts are in agreeance on the top five to ten draftees, with the order of selections the main sticking point at this stage ...

given that Gumbleton, Hansen, Hawkins, Sellar and Thorp are generally rated the best KPP's available in the draft, who would our BigFooty experts judge to be the better KPP of this next batch of talls;

Kurt Tippett
Jack Riewoldt
Ben Reid
Mitch Brown

who looks to have the most talent ? the most scope for improvement ?

I don't get much of a look at these young blokes before they're drafted, so any insight would be much appreciated :thumbsu:

Yep Collier is meant to be impressive, although I must confess to never seeing him play.

McKenzie from W.A is a fairly promising KPP, however has been forced to play FB for W.A in the carnival due to a serious lack of KP backman.

Both Reid and Riewoldt are promising, but once again I haven't seem enough of them to rank them yet. I mostly only catch the WAFL colts.

I haven't really seen enough to make a judgement call, although I do like the look of Riewoldt. People are tough on him as they expect alot I find.

Hopefully someone like Weaver or Footyman can help you out.
 
Riewoldt is looking a bit of a non-key KP player at the moment. More a 190cm flanker type. See him more as a Ben Dixon type.

Ben Reid will be drafted but is super raw. He is basically playing wing at the moment. Struggles in KP, but again the athleticism and good kicking will have AFL clubs keen.

Mitch Brown, as others have suggested, is more a Leigh Brown type. Not as mobile or athletic and uses a lot of strength. Not as much demand for the that player type.

Kurt Tippett might be a chance bizzarely because he has played so little footy. There will be a temptation to see how much upside he has when introduced to fulltime coaching.

A good or a bad thing if he were to be drafted to Richmond?

Probably exactly the sort of player that would catch the Richmond recruiter's eye. Long term I see him more as a Pat Bowden type player than a big-bodied power forward. Wouldn't be that fussed either way. Don't really see him as a must-draft target at the moment.

He probably will get drafted but it would not surprise me one bit if he only got a rookie listing.

That's fair enough.

I must say though, if i'm a recruiter and he's still available at my round 3 selection, i'd have no hesitation about taking him.

fair enough, why do u think he wont make it at AFL level then. u must see some weaknesses that i cant see.

191cm marking forward with some of the best hands in this draft. would be top3 in contested marking ability with hawkins and hansen.

find it hard to see him holding down a KP. could pinch hit there at times, don't see him as a career KP down the track. shame he has the same kicking genes as his cousins :p
 
What about Dawes from metro? He's had no recognition playing at CHF/FF as all eyes have been on Hawkins who is there with him. He was 3rd best on ground against SA, surely he has good chances of getting drafte? He's a big boy and is very athletic....any thoughts?

He is a big boy. 194cm and around 100kg. But how much of his good form -- and he did play well, not denying it -- was due to him being a Tony Lockett-sized man playing against boys? Also, with the pace of the game these days, where is someone of his physical dimensions gonna play? He's too short for the ruck. Is he athletic enough to play CHF at AFL level, where pace and athleticism is more important with each passing year? Dunno the answer to that. My suspicion is that he might struggle. Perhaps he could play as the 'gorilla' in the goal square, kinda like Alastair Lynch did.

I can't see anyone using an early pick on Dawes. I'm not sure he's even a certainty to be drafted. I mean, I really liked the form of Mitchell Brown, who, to my eyes, looked considerably more athletic than Dawes, yet some people who post on here -- and who know a lot more about it than me -- reckon even he might not be athletic enough to get drafted. If that's right, then Dawes will be up against it.
 
yeah i acknowledge that but i must say he has pace and endurance. he is the quickest 400m runner at his school and for a guy of his size thats a pretty good effort. although dawes weighs 100, this doesnt mean too much appart from the fact that he has the ability to get through packs and show his presence. i would have thought that in todays game where pace is so necassary, he would have enough pace and definately enough height to get a game, not being some mug in the goalsquare.
