News Krakouer settles forward

I think he will play similar role to Cyril Rioli. High half forward but permission to roam and hang round the packs and use his awesome extracting and breakaway skills.

Forward pocket - nah. Kills little guys better to have them no higher than HF so they can swarm, trap it in.

I don't think it is out of him and Davis (or Dick). In fact, I see all three of them as being our primary small forward, with Krak spending more time through the middle than the others. Imagine the forwardline pressure of each, but also the offensive ability (ability to create and kick goals.) I think Didak, Sidebottom, Thomas, and Beams will also go through this part of the ground as well.

I don't have Blair in my best 22 from Round 1 next year, but also think that Johnson's spot is on the one that is under threat from Krak. He doesn't have a spot in the backline anymore, and most of the mids need to either be true inside (ie Ball, Swan, Pendles, etc) or be able to spend time in the forwardline (Krak, Thomas, Didak, Davis, etc). I don't see this with BJ (even though I recognise he played a couple of solid GFs).

As a side note, I hope that Tarrant also settles as our primary deep forward with either Dawes / Brown playing deep and changing second ruck. We don't need him down back with Brown and Reid.

The way our team is headed (& a lot of other teams) is to have players who are multi dimesional. You can't afford to just be a small forward in our team anymore, you must be able to rotate through the middle. We get a lot of our drive not just from our high interchange rates but from rotating midfielders through our forward line. The new rules are just going to accentuate this trend.

Davis showed in 2009 he can be a very effective midfielder, but in 2010 injuries & fitness meant he couldn't do that role again. If he can't regain the 09 level of fitness he is finished. If he can then he will be one of many shooting for a spot in the 22.

The same can be applied to Brad Dick, if his body can't survive a battering in the midfield he may struggle to consistently play. He needs to put some muscle on. Rounds is in the mix too & will get a chance. Krak at least has shown in 2010 he can be at least a solid midfield option in 2011.

Absolutely spot on.

I think it is fair to say Krak is at the head of the list of those four players for a spot purely because he is fit.

If Davis and Dick can get fit they start pushing for selection.

Due to both our issues with small forwards (at times last year) and now Macaffers apparent fitness concerns Rounds would have to be closer to pushing for selection than some people may think especially if he maintains his VFL form from last year.
