Kyabram DFL discussion 2023

FWIW this is what I'm hearing!

The "Murray Div 2" league has been told by AFL Vic that it MUST get 8 side's agreed by this week otherwise it's a no go! They currently only have 7.
Tocumwal, Katandra, Tungamah, Murch-Tol, Dookie, Shepp East & Undera!

3 of the KDFL clubs are said to only be a verbal yes until it's clear the direction, 1 KDFL club is in a pickle as they have actually voted at an AGM to move league's which has caused a huge problem both internally & externally!

Internally the club is now devided between committee & member's & could see an ousting!

Externally because there has been an official AGM club vote to leave means that they now have to vote to come back with all KDFL club nowhaving to accept them back in? Which I'm not 100% sure how or why that work's but someone higher up involved in league meetings may be able to give us more on how that works? AaronSCHQ ??

Anyhow whatever happens it's just another sh*t show caused by someone that is wanting to look like a saviour but only creating more issue's for country footy in our area & all club's involved!
Never seen that happened before, Smooth. It isn’t very often that a new league is created and the chances of that new league not getting up combined with a club voting to join it prior… a very strange circumstance for that club.

I’m sure the club members unhappy internally will understand if Murray 2.0 doesn’t get up and running and I gather the other KDL clubs will vote them back in if they’re required too.

An email from KDL was sent out to clubs on Saturday saying that the Murray League had informed them it had achieved the minimum requirement of 8 clubs committed to form the basis of the District League.

Tonight they let clubs know the SGM tomorrow night is cancelled due to uncertainty surrounding the Murray District League, Ardmona FNC recess and other factors for the 2024 season. It has been rescheduled for 18th October.
I would think it is very wishful to be thinking clubs have ‘ committed ‘.
‘ Expressed an interest ‘ may be a more accurate account .
My understanding is that only one has had a vote of members and then there is the the need for clubs to seek approval from their league to leave, much the same as a club must gain approval to join .
Leagues , whether it be board or clubs , being required to approve entry and exit( affectively membership) is a very important process .
In KDL’s case being affiliated I would assume clubs would also need approval of the local commission and also AFL Victoria .
I may be wrong be all that I have seen is that those bodies have given permission to explore a new competition .
Given the backing the KDL has provided AFLGM by way of entering and maintaining their admin and seemingly doing all that is asked without question , I fail to see AFLGM or AFL Vic granting the approval of 1/4 of the clubs to leave particularly when one club is looking to come out of recess and another is looking to re-enter the senior competition .
Can’t speak for the KDL but the picola league rules are quite tight regarding this given past experience which clubs unanimously voted into their rules .
Clubs aren’t likely to know who is or isn’t committed and approved to leave for months .

Upon the Broadford matter ,I’ve heard that they have all but conceded they won’t be accepted and plans have commenced , by their current league , for them to stay where they are .

Not sure about the last part Roar, I’ve got it on good authority the Broadford president has told everyone they’ll be in, if they get rejected by the league they’ve got lawyers and all the legal back up ready to go. Telling AFL Victoria they will fold if not accepted.

I think if these 4 clubs leave, then Broadford will be in. If they stay, it should be a No.

Would also really love to know how Rushy / Ardy are going on a players front, Rushworth coach has a pretty impressive CV

On what grounds would they have the right to challenge the decision legally?

A club potentially folding does not give them legal right to appeal another bodies decision not to an accept .
The best they could hope for is to argue that the league hasn’t followed its own rules and that the application must be re-considered .
If they are already threatening legal recourse then I’d hardly think they could argue the decision was made without following correct process.
The AFL may even press hard upon the KDL to accept them but they can’t legally force the league to take them .

Well they could take it to afl vic and say it's shorter travel etc and they'll fold where they are, I'd think they'd win
Don’t quote me on this but if they were to leave the league they’re in, there’s an outer metro league with a lot less travel from what I heard discussed. Obviously a different set up with netball on different days to football and a more difficult standard of sport.

Very interesting couple of weeks anyway.

Suspect arguement for entry would be something along those lines, counter argument is there inclusion would significantly impact clubs particularly those on or south of the midland highway and west of Tat .

Riddell is closest but that bridge may have been burnt in the past.

The League fees were a key reason with them leaving the Riddell - they were double then some from memory.
IIRC, it ( $$$’s) was a very contributing factor why Riddell went back to their own admin and Kyneton have now joined them .

Lauren Donellan (excuse the spelling). Current VP. She’s been doing a bit of the emailing and ran the last meeting so my guess is she is taking on the main job next year.
Appears to be a very good operator. Best of luck to her if she takes on the role.
