lets not beat around the bush and lie to ourselves.

We all know if Pickett signed with Freo on this deal, this thread would be full of demons supporters calling it a horrible deal from freo and laughing at them.

You can be positive on the situation, but don't lie to yourselves that you are getting value here. because you arent.

I'm stoked we kept Pickett — he's electric and a fan favourite — but let’s be real: a 9-year deal comes with risk. A lot can go wrong over nearly a decade.

Right now, he absolutely deserves the pay rise. His form this season has gone to another level, thanks in part to more midfield minutes. But we also need to acknowledge that he’s in the middle of a purple patch — this is the best footy he’s played in his career.

From 2021 to 2024, when he was used primarily as a stay-at-home small forward, his output was consistent but not spectacular:

YearAverage DisposalsAverage TacklesAverage Goals
202111.842.521.60
202210.392.651.78
202311.524.041.61
202412.673.571.71
Average 2021-202411.593.451.67

This year, through 10 games, he’s averaging 19 disposals, 2.10 goals, and 3.6 tackles — a huge leap.

Hopefully, this level becomes his new baseline rather than a flash in the pan that he parlayed into a $12 million payday.

I think many players have issue's they need to work on
Murphy Reid is a very smart player with great iq but he slid dues to his lack of speed , Some players can adjust and get through and become gun players and some dont.

reid is a young kid enjoying freedom in a very good team and doesnt get much attention currently
he has had cameo's and looked great but also gone missing for long periods
currently justifies his picked position but needs to work on other area's to be more involved
but going well
Realistically Reid is a midfielder who’s playing a serviceable role at half forward.
He’s more than excelling at that position. Walters, Sturt, Switkowsi have been injured so having Reid come in and do what he has done- massive bonus.

as provocative as my profile pic? I'm happy with it. Because he's a small fwd. Hard to find them.
Your life must be empty/meaningless if football consumes this much of your life. Everyone has their vices but this is a bit pathetic. You can use trolling to deflect your personal circumstances but one day you will realise it was all worth for nothing. You have my pity.

Great profile pic Danny. The dees have foiled the dockers attempt at a flag.

You must be a life coach

Ironically, you getting upset about a profile picture on a forum is sadder.

I think the pic is top quality banter. I'm talking about that user's behaviour over the last two years which they are infamous for across multiple boards. But alas let's leave it at that.

Danny is misunderstood, he actually offers keen insight into the game. It’s ok if you disagree, but don’t take it out on Danny.

this could genuinely be the greatest melt i've ever seen on this forum. Hats off to you.

i get your point, a pay rise was due.

But a 7 year/12.5 million dollar extension for those numbers is not exactly warranted, surely you can admit that?

You have like 3 players now on like ~30% of your salary cap.....I'm not sure of the finite details around the cap increase coming soon and weather Petracca, Oliver and Picketts contracts will go up accordingly to include the increase, but this seems insane to me. Especially when Trac is there til 2029, Oliver 2030 etc etc.

Just my view though, if Demons fans are OK with than fair play.

I 100% think Trac or Oliver is getting traded in the future to clear up cap space. was a high chance before, think it is guaranteed now
