You can think what you like. I have demonstrated how statistics lie, by the Adrian McAdam example. Too many people follow stats more than the actual game. Statistics don’t tell the full story.
That's some real nonsense here, what are the row upon row of people in the coaches box looking at? Statistics! And they do tell the whole story, yours is a common comment thrown out by people who don't look at or can't understand data/statistics. You haven't demonstrated anything.
.

You guys are all so bipolar when it comes to Schultz 😂

And please stop with the "needs to kick more goals in a big win" Bruzzy stole one and he set a couple up. It isn't an issue.
It's a bit silly! We didn't have a huge spread of goalkickers - 12 of them came from the Quadruple Ms

It's never been an issue. It's just mandatory BF Bipolar

Goes well beyond bigfooty. We're just following the media's lead.

Does my head in at the moment that every week the big story is the losing team - not the winner. It's basically got to the stage where winning is pretty irrelevant in terms of footy news. And guys are duds from a few errors, regardless of the good things they do.

The game is overanalysed and overcomplicated with worthless data stats. It is becoming so Americanised that it’s verging on embarrassing.
Simpletons like yourself are sucked in by it all.

Too true. No-one seems to notice the 99 things they do right. As soon as they do 1 thing the slightest bit wrong, it gets amplified and magnified to the n-th degre, and nothing else they've ever done seems to matter in the slightest in the overall picture. Really grinds my gears, that does.

I think a thing that frustrates people isn't a lack of goals or tackles, it's the mistakes he makes when he has the ball, whether shooting for goal, or trying to find a teammate by foot. He is just quite unskilled, and therefore makes errors on simple-ish plays.

He is a mark and kick player (aside from pressure) who needs to be deep F50.

At Freo he was a decent set shot but since he's been here he's a 50/50 shot at best. That's the difference.

He had 9 contested possessions on Saturday night. Of his 17 disposals, only 5 were kicks. He also had only 6 possessions in the forward 50.

Based on your assessment of him as a player, do you think he had a good game?

He played well, but this was not a game which proved all the doubters wrong. It was one of those days where entire team played well, almost like no one could do a thing wrong.

At risk of going over old ground. His season last year was only marginally off his previous year at Freo. Some people just don’t understand that this is what we paid for.

He was well behind on goal assists with only 4 last season whilst he previous two season at Freo he assisted 19 and 17 times.

What’s involved in a goal assist?
He had six score involvements on Saturday night. What’s the difference between those categories?

Score involvement is some part in a chain that scores either a goal or a point. Goal assist is when you directly to feed it to someone that scores a goal.

Simpletons can't understand or use analytics so we know which camp you belong in. Again the row upon row of assistant coaches in the box are pouring over statistics, they're stupid if they don't. You stick to your 30 second insta videos, the tiny mind can handle those.

I see what you did there. I reckon being involved in chains is a better stat.
I think score involvements is the more appropriate stat because goal assists can be punished if your teammate doesn’t finish off. Say Elliott misses the set shot to beat Essendon well Bianco misses out on the goal assist, but he still gets the score involvement.

Shoota to me can be best analysed by looking at one stat, effective disposals. If that number is up he’s hitting targets so getting involved in scoring chains and finishing his work in front of goal. If that number is down he’s letting himself down in front of goal or breaking down in possession chains. In opening round he had 4 effective disposals and Rd 1 it was 14. Everything else about his game is consistently good by role because he’s a damn good pressure forward.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned overcomplicated stats.
Goal average and tackles seem to be the main talking points.

What’s American about that?

With the exception of Macaffer, all those players had/ are having very long careers. That makes the averages lower.
Schultz has only played 111 games. Adrian McAdam averaged 2.2 goals per game. That must make him the greatest small forward ever.

Schultz needs to make more of his opportunities in front of goal.
Just to give some perspective about why 2 goals a game is an elite expectation you might consider these stats.

Since Trav Cloke was around we have struggled to have anyone have a season where they averaged 2 goals a match over a single season.

Trav himself was 1.8 goals over a career but had 4 seasons where he did 2 a game or better.

The only other times this has been achieved at Collingwood since Trav was Jordy 2.0 in 2018 and 2.3 in 2019 and Brody 2.0 in 2023. Brody has won the goalkicking at Collingwood 5x but only once reached 2 goals in a season

Dids and Leon never got near having a season ever where they averaged 2 goals a game . Dids best was 1.8 and Leon's 1.5. Both AAs

Luke Breust the most prolific small forward currently playing, a goal kicking machine has only reached 2.0 goals a game in 5 of his 15 seasons.

2 goals a game is fantastic in any year.

In 2024 there were only 9 players who played fullish seasons and reached the 2 goals a game average

I know of a small forward who averaged only 1.1 goals a game that might understand the role and have some influence on Shoota's position in the side and appreciate his value...
