Player Watch Lachie Schultz

I give a ****. He wears a Collingwood jumper. If I wanted to watch players with similar talent, I’d head down to Como Park on a Saturday afternoon and watch Old Geelong instead.

FFS. He was about 4 errors away from having a very good game. And yes he keeps on undoing good work and being about 4 errors away from having a very good game. But the margins are small, as he's a player with an outstanding workrate who gets in the right spots and does do some bloody good things and some things very well consistently - we need him to tidy up his decision making and skills - everything else is very good.

We get it , you’re pissed about the trade.
No need to mention it everytime he has a bad game. Your harbouring your rage at the wrong person, Schultz isn’t the one who demanded to be traded for a first rounder.

Just let it go.

Think i better check on what we paid for Houston so I can properly assess how he plays this weekend

He doesn't have "haters" he has critics that want to see him perform better.

Everyone criticizing him at the moment would be more than happy to see Shooter playing well and to eat their words. No-one here wants him to fail.
I don't believe that last sentence for one second. There are quite a few posters here who are hoping that he fails because they have fragile egos and like to think that they will have their claims "proven" correct on the internet.

You should get old Geelongs best player and give a game in the AFL if you want to see embarrassment. I just think you're causing yourself unnecessary stress over one player.

Hit the nail of the head, classic snowflakes and they keep proving it.

Old Geelong is definitely for you because comparing AFL players to lower grade ammo players is elite high level analysis, and yes that's sarcasm.

Dan's ****ed. When you add up the stats of Noble and Richards and then include the best possible players available at the picks we gave up - the blokes we could have had - it'll be a complete disaster.

He only has to miss one target and he’s cactus 🌵

In terms of DE%… at 40% Schulz underperformed yesterday 🤷

But like I said last year… 25 goals and 80 tackles in the forward half is about par for Schulz - this takes into account a lot of his role is done without ball in hand

He roughly did those stats last year… and injury permitting… will do that this year
Work rate, tackles and pressure. He gets to a lot of contests, an effective player without the ball. I don't believe he will ever be that forward that kicks multiple goals every game. The misses don't help but he was missing last year just the same. As our needs change (which they have immensely from the end of 2023) we might dream he can offer something more, like a stay at home small. Dreams. Our forward line needs better delivery & a marking tall that can take advantage of it.

The way I see it:

We gave up:
A pick in the 30s - Simon Black went in the 30s.
A pick that will hopefully be in the teens: - Nat Fye
as well as Noble and Richards.

Houston for Simon Black, Nat Fyfe, Noble and Richards.

What a ****ing disaster

he can also play Sidey's role and sit on someone in the midfield. at least he has wheels.
I doubt he could run with a quality mid, I think he'd blow up big time. As a mid he's more suited to being a burst player at stoppage who moves forward from there.

he had a solid 2nd half on UDL last year.
I might be just assuming his endurance running as he's just so powerful and fast.

Was he tracking LDU after stoppage - or just at stoppage? I definitely think we could use him as a negater at stoppage.

I would have thought the same of Bedford based on that.

We paid pick 10 and a second-rounder for a guy we don't have a role for?
FMD, do something then - drop Billy and play Schultz
Use him as a forward pocket that takes away their best small defender - anything, something.

We have to make this work - what is everyone's best role, work it out, then select the side to maximise our results regardless of player/s

Why? Because people don’t like what we paid for him? Seriously?

lol way to exaggerate

I would argue most of the board really had no idea about Joe or his capabilites because the majority of the board aren't keen VFL watchers

My observation was that once Joe had actually been given a chance at AFL level? Most definitely wanted to hold onto him.

As to whether they would have taken Schultz over him? Well that's a question that's impossible to answer. Gut instinct says that purely on a straight swap? Most would have taken Schultz over Richards.

But factor in what we were offering for Schultz vs keeping Richards? Then you've probably got a tighter result.

Never stopped them being emphatic before.
