For those who don't know her she is a 26 year old Kwi signed to modular with the most beautiful voice in the world. Her debut album will be released in September this year but the songs she has already put out are just gorgeous.

The first song was "Back Of The Van" which got awesome remixes by Van She and Fred Falke. Here is a video of the original.

Her second single is due out in june but has already been leaked onto the blogs as well as a fantastic Alex Gopher Remix. It is titled "Paris Is Burning". Ladyhawke also does the vocals for Pnau's Embrace. Get onto hypem and get yourself a copy.

My Delirium is awesome; reminds me of some dirty 80s pop, but with a bit of cheesy house mixed in.

Embrace I've always loved, Paris is Burning is excellent.

Modular marketing is friggin aweful and it has made it hard for me to take any act signed to them seriously (yes I know it's not the acts fault).

Amazingly in spite of this I don't mind her, though her sound is a bit derivative at times.

Yep ladyhawke is a gun, alongside Lykke Li and Little Boots we have some great female indie acts popping up on the music scene in the last year or so!

Wow. Just wow.

Pretentious how? The marketing material they send out is over the top and pretentious, just because it irks me and I like, but don't jump over the moon about her music I am now a "pretentious fiend". I even qualified my post.

However the calling the marketing into question, of which all promotions of music are reasonably similar, I fail to see how this can determine whether someone is worth listening to. While yes you previously mentioned that an artist's label shouldn't be the basis for questioning the artist's work, you still do.

Nah. it's because i was living overseas and added myself to the mailing list to see if there were any tour dates for the places I was in.

Kept getting promotional emails for new albums, but had to stop reading them because they were achieving the opposite of their purpose. I still listened to the music anyway, but unsubscribed from the mailing list post haste!

I'm not usually the type for celebrity crushes, but there's just something about her that is very attractive to me

Anyway...

Awesome music as well. Definitely deserves any critical and commercial success that she gets IMO. I had "Embrace" as my ringtone for months there, and replaced it late last year with "My Delirium", which is still in place on my phone now.

"Back of the Van" was actually my pick for #1 in the most recent Triple J Hottest 100. I didn't think it was a serious chance for #1 at all (it didn't even make the countdown in the end, but "My Delirium" and "Paris is Burning" did), but it was definitely my favourite song of 2008.

Pretty amazing how well she's done considering she has Asperger's Syndrome. By most accounts she is very quiet and shy, and is still adjusting and getting comfortable with performing in front of crowds. Hopefully she can keep things on the level (unlike fellow musician with AS, Craig Nicholls) and continue to make great music

I want an Australian tour sometime this year too!

Anyway - I loved Embrace, Delirium, Paris is Burning, Dusk till Dawn; so tonight, I bought the CD.

And it's bloody excellent; ignoring the obvious above, I've only listening to it once so far, but I think the entire album could be fantastic.

It's excellent; really good mix of electro-pop type stuff, and some chilled out tunes as well.
