We have one of the best YOUNG lists.

Malthouse along with Paul Roos are the best coaches because of the performances that their teams have given over a sustained period of time (3 consecutive and 6 consecutive finals series) with mediocre lists at their disposal. No-one has ever acknowledged Collingwood or Sydney as having the best lists or the "Fab 4".

What separates Malthouse and Roos from Neil Craig and Dean Laidley who also have maximised the most out of their lists is that Collingwood and Sydney know how to win finals games.

Sydney and Collingwood haven't bottemed out to have the endless supply of #1 draft picks that St Kilda, Carlton and Hawthorn etc have. And Geelong was the reason that the Father/Son rules were changed. Thompson has a pretty good job with a list of that quality, so good that he can casually eat sandwiches and lollies during his games.

How is he the best coach?

What puts him on the level of Ross Lyon or Mark Thompson?

If we have one of the bests lists, then if we had the best coach we'd be an easy top 4 side, EASY.
We have a reasonable list but not comparable to a number of teams that are currently firing. But the potential of the list is what most are hanging their hat on. At the moment we are probably where we deserve to be. Fighting with a bunch of other teams for finals spots.

You know, as well as I do, that MM will not be part of something with Bucks in a coaching capacity, it's not in either one of their personalities to be like that. I dont know why people trot this scenario out every time.

I really have to use the .

I thought the suggestion that MM should be Media Liaison would be enough Fu.

The sky is the limit though I think in regard to how this could pan out.

Deadly seriously though...
If Bucks is a lock for senior coach at Collingwood next season then the club definitely have this all sown up by now...agree?

Mick Malthouse has us possibly 4th after mid season, this no doubt would have been what the club were aiming for by this time.
Mick would be feeling no pressure and the club wouldnt even be thinking about next season. The way Mick is going and if the club finish top 4 and make a prelim can you really see them getting rid of Mick for Bucks?

I really want Bucks to be our next coach but you cant get rid of a bloke that has this team in the top 4.

Also Glen Archer would never coach at AFL level. I can see John Longmire coming in, makes perfect sense to me. This is obviously depending on Buckley's situation and also take into consideration Port Adelaide's current situation. There could be 3 or 4 clubs changing coaches so you could see a Mark Williams coming over to Victoria to take charge of a Vic based club.

Yeh....and that mediocre list was created by them right? Malthouse has done well at Collingwood in terms of consistently making us a good team. Paul Roos was able to go one step further and win a flag with his list.

Mark Thompson created the best list in the competition, and got his team to be the best team in the AFL clearly for what is now the third year running. That is on another level of performance that Roos and Malthouse haven't reached.

North Melbourne made the Prelims in 2007, just like we did. They beat the likes of Hawthorn in the finals. We can't really claim that we know how to win finals games more than they do.

Hawthorn have had an endless supply of #1 picks

They had 2 and 5 in 2004 (like we did in 2005). Before that they had #1 back in 2001. That's hardly an endless supply is it?

Geelong have probably have worse draft picks in terms of position than of recetly as well.

Your bolded bit is ridiculous. He created that list and developed them. How can you give him no credit for getting them where they are now? Do you think quality players just magically develop out of thin air?

I darent discuss MM but on the sticky

But as I stated before, If Bucks has a guarantee that he has the job next year then I guess we will be able to figure it out from his responses in the next day or two, after he steps off the plane, if indeed he has boarded the thing. I would assume that if he has the job or has been slated as the next coach, he would know by now. He is not one to have his future so indefinite. He would know by now what he is doing next year.

What puts him ahead of Ross Lyon and Bomber Thompson?

The fact that he has coached more premierships than both of them combined, more GF's, better levels of sustained success and has coached with mediocre lists in the past for outstanding results, coach of the current National squad etc..

Nobody cares about "winning streaks". Bomber Thompson won a premiership which is a wonderful achievement, however lost one he shouldn't have.

Ross Lyon...has done nothing.

Mick is currently the most successful coach in the AFL, which makes him the best coach in the league. Enough said.

Fair call Fu.
I will refrain also.

There are rumours the interim will be announced at the presser, which is on now.
I have no access, Canberra TV is about afro-american women apparently and straightening hair.
Anyone watching or watched the conference?

Malthouse as Manager of Coaching/Media Liaison.
Bucks as Senior Coach.
Laidley as Tactical Coach.
Gavin Brown as Offensive Coach.
Scott Burns as Midfield Coach.
Mark Williams as Defensive Coach.

The Six Million Dollar Coaching Department.

No wonder Eddie was adamant about no cap on coaching payments.

LOL - yeah no EGO clashes happening with that mix. ;):p

MM won't be sacked ... even if we lost every single game he won't be sacked before the year is out. Eddie didn't do it to Tony so why would he did it to MM?

Bucks will interview for the North job .... stupid not to. He's a professional afterall.

North won't appoint till after the season and a proper review has happened. Just like Richmond will do.

Laidley .... who knows what will happen? He'll still be in footy somewhere.

North's caretaker coach .... dunno ... but for the full time gig don't be surprised that M.Blight's name gets brought up. I heard this awhile back from a friend, of a friend's friend that had a friend. :p
Johnny "Horse" Longmire will be my bet in the end.

I'll quote this in the MM thread and carry on there.

Unfortunate situation for Laidley, I hope he gets another coaching job, preferably at a better resourced club. I think he has plenty to offer.

If he can't get another job I would welcome him back with open arms to Collingwood as an assistant again!

You would think he would be high on the list for a club like Richmond.

I certainly didn't see this coming so soon.
Buckley will wait and see. North and Richmond aren't exactly juicy jobs , for one reason or another. More will fall.

I reckon a Hinkley, Hardwick type selection would be good at this point. A lot cheaper for a club not flush with funds and also good coaching prospects with lots of experience in their own rights.

Buckley won't be dropping his bundle to step in as care-taker to a club with an uncertain future, especially if he is jetting across the horizon currently and Richmond also have a spot open.

I'm sure Buckley would be high in North's estimations, but it wont be happening now, that's for sure. They can try like Richmond and other clubs to secure his services at seasons end. I beleive Buck's would prefer the Pies and knows that end of year is the time when a proper assessment will (should) be done and an opportunity possibly opens up. North and the Tigers will still be there at years end and Bucks is a patient man.

If MM coaches us again next year then I think he should try and get Laidley back to the club. Apparently he was a big reason why we pushed Brisbane so far in the '02 GF. MM has a lot of time for him and to get him as the opposition scout or in the position that we offered Rodney Eade 4 yrs ago would be good.

I'm getting the sinking feeling we're going to miss out on Buckley.
Miss out on Buckley? Where did you hear that Collingwood were actually going to appoint a different coach? I doubt this is going to happen, and nor should it. I hope Nathan Buckley coaches a different team, and good luck to him if that happens.
If we win this week we could and should be 5th, if we dont we most probably will be 7th.
Carlton aren't playing this week so they can't win or lose. I'm not sure which team you barrack for, but if Collingwood wins this week, then we are 4th...not 5th. Some people just don't understand the current state of footy as you've shown quite a few times.

I can't say I'm surprised to see you've copped a red card.

He was a good coach, but I doubt that he would be high on the list of any club because of other reasons.
