The missing of wide open Js ****s me to tears. In the NBL and college, at least those guys can hit them...

I agree but that has little to do with the point I was making. You referred me to the HOF site because I mentioned two players that weren't yet inducted, yet you yourself included two future HOFers, so why can't I? I was just making the point that Barkley and Stockton would both make my team and you start ****ting on about me deserving my teeth getting kicked in.Originally posted by DEVO
It's all subjective. When a league has been as strong as the NBA has, for as long as NBA has, is it very difficult to narrow it down to just a few players. I could have named a second All-Star team and still missed a dozen or so players worthy of a place. I will admit that favourtism played it's part in some decisions (McHale is the big one, even thought he is a Celtic), but you cannot say that any player listed is not worthy of place in those teams. Every single player (including Jordan) I would fly half way around the world to see play... if I had the money.

Interesting.
Chuck Hearn, (Former Lakers announcer and one of the great authorities of the game) once made the comment, Wilt Chamberlain is every bit as good a defender as Russell, but doesn't get the recognition because he scores 50 points a game. I'm sure if defensive awards and the more "defensive" stats like steals and blocks were recorded in the fifties and sixties you'd have a better idea of how good the defensive skills of Chamberlain, West, Baylor and Goodrich would be. I agree the All-Stars are a better defensive unit, but the gap is not as great as you think. Also what the Lakers lack in defensive skill they gain in Bulk and Size. Nobody, not even Russell could stop Wilt, he didn't have the body to match it in the paint. And nobody can stop a rampaging Shaq. Even Mikan has the size and Bulk to cause problems. And Kareem has the Sky Hook. It was really difficult finding Hall of Famers (that didn't play for the Lakers) that could match it with those two guys. Malone and Olajuwan are two. Ewing was a third that I could and probably should have included.
As I stated initally, I limited the All-Star team to Hall of Famers or certain Hall of Famers. Barkley isn't a Hall of Famer, and I think he should have qualified by now, which suggests (to me) he isn't a certainty.
I'm not 100% certain Duncan will become a Hall of Famer. The guy is a genuine star, no doubt, but it's still fairly early in his career, and injuries could still play apart (I hope not). As someone stated, if I do this again in two or three years I couldn't keep him out, and that's how I feel. Damn he'd look good in Purple and Gold.
As for your comment on Pippen. He didn't even come into consideration. I wouldn't even include him in a third string All-Star side. I just don't rate him.

I never said you were wrong with Cousy and McHale and I never said I was right with Barkley and Stockton (couldn't go wrong with either), it's subjective and opinionative.

Well of course Chuck Hearn is going to say that. He probably rates Magic as the GOAT, Worthy as the best 3 ever to play the game etc etc. He was a great commentator/announcer but he was also a bias one, which you would expect because he was a Lakers fan.
You should have included Ewing as he is a far better player than McHale. Oh and on Barkley, to suggest that he isnt a certain HOFer is ridiculous. The Lakers would definitely not win. Good team but not good enough at every position and also not deep enough.
Barkley will get in sometime, I'm nearly certain of that. The above still doesn't justify any of the other **** you've said, you personally want to see McHale and Cousy, fine but I think Barkley and Stockton would be better because that's who I'd like to see. Doesn't mean I'm wrong or your right, theres no right or wrong in this sort of stuff.Originally posted by DEVO
Olajuwan and Malone are absolute certainties for the Hall of Fame. So is Stockton, but I think Cousy is better player. Barkley has already been passed up for Hall of Fame Honors once, so there is no guarantee he will be inducted.

Devo, out of interest, if you think Barkley isnt a certainty for the HOF, do you think Ewing and Robinson will be inducted.

Rodman may miss out on the HOF, but Barkley was an MVP, Dream Teamer and done much more positive for the league then negative so I doubt he'll miss out all together.
