Surely he would be close to getting dropped for the third test. Hes been really out of form in the past few months....his stats against Australia so far:

Batting:
Runs: 40
Ave: 11.75

Bowling:
2 /82
Ave: 41

how long can they carry him??

It was said on this board before the series that SA had to very good All rounders in Kallis and Klusener. I think this series has proved that Kallis is about 3 steps above Klusener on the cricketing ladder

Joseph will replace Klusner in Sydney. I've not seen Joseph but I think he's a spinner.

I would have to agree Macca, as he is only a shadow of his former self. His batting lacks confidence & his bowling is not good enough to retain his spot. The Proteas are considering sending over Boje, so he may come in as a 2nd spinner for the Sydney test (with Boucher & Pollock moving up the batting order to 6th & 7th). Alternatively, they could bring in Jacques Rudolph (as they have plenty of bowlers & he bowls part-time leg spin) to strengthen the batting @ 3, which would allow them to drop Dippenaar to 6. Either way, they need to find some confidence for the return leg, as the so called world test championship as been a bit of a fizzer thus far!

I am sure around the world cup time that Klusener was being touted as one of the best players around.

Whats happened since?

And yeh agree about Kallis, he did play brilliantly and has been a lone hand in both the tests for South Africa.

Great to see the Australian players giving him some credit by congratulating him.

Cheers

Zulu will most likely be the first to go, doesnt look like making a run, and his bowling has been part time for a couple of years now. It will be interesting to see how he goes in the ODIs, with his game the way it is at the moment.

I saw Boje in SA v India and he looked out of sorts, although he is a good player. He is injured I think. Dippenaar has been unlucky, but if you hit the ball in the air, these things happen. Bat him 5 with McKenzie 4.

Kallis needs to step up to bat 3.

Is there a second tweaker in the SA party?, rumour has it the SA minister of sport has emailed Ntini a beginners guide to off spinning, in order to ensure he gets a game in Sydney.

Hes almost becoming a one day specialist in the mould of Michael Bevan. A match winner in the shortened game but doesnt do a whole lot at test level.

They have Justin Ontong in the team who i think was mainly bought out for the experience. I heard somewhere that he bowls a bit like Tendulkar which is a mix of off and leg spinners.

Agree that Klusener has to be dropped and Rudolph will probably come into the team.

I felt sorry for Kallis too. So close but no cigar. Zulu looks the goods in the one day format, but so far his test performances have been shocking. A fair bit of soul searching for him if he's going to be in the test side against Australia in their home country one would think!

His form is shocking.

Since the the start of the West Indies Series, his played 11 matches, and score 303 runs at 18.93, with only one score above 50 (108 v India). He also has only picked up 13 wickets in that time at an average of 40.38 with only one 3 wicket haul in his bag in those 11 tests.

Big fall from grace after been named as one of the crickets of the year in 2000.

The worse thing he did was let his bowling go when he was getting rave reviews for his batting.

He was never going to be able to hold a place for his batting alone at Test level. His bowling used to be pretty useful & he had a bit of nip but he just got lazy & now he's paying the price becuase he doesn't have the technique to ride the bad times batting wise.

Pretty sure zulu had a shoulder op or something that meant he was out of action for a while and he spent the time working on his batting...hence his 'explosion' in WC99. Word was he knew his bowling wouldnt return to what it was, so he tried to make himself into a batting all rounder, as i think he was the reverse early in his career when his bowling had a little more zip.

Klusener going home

Klusener has gone one step further then being dropped for the final test, according to the story below he will be going home to prepare for the one-dayers.

One problem I have with the article is that the headline describes Klusener as being 'luckless'. Out of form certainly, but not luckless.

THey are deperate, bring Nicky Boje in from SA just to play this test.

The idea was he wouldn't play so he could recover from hs injuries
