Where is Lance's best position?? Doggie?? Missionary?? Nah, just kidding..... Pagan has been playing him in defence a lot and I'm not sold on his theory that he reads the play quicker than everyone else compensates for lack of speed.... there's no substitute for leg speed!!! I think he should be played where he is most dangerous, that's out of the goal square. If he works hard he'll attract the footy and with his smarts will hopefully be able to snare 3-4 goals per game and maybe dish off a couple. If they play him from the square he won't be on 100m leads to the wing, which is where opposition forwards are exploiting him at the moment. He needs to be close to go, where IMO he's most dangerous.

I really admire Whitnall. He may not be the fittest player on the list but I believe he is one of the most honest.

He consistently puts his body on the line and rarely shirks an issue. Some of our other senior/gifted players have a tendency to pull out of contests at times yet dont draw the abuse that Lance seems to get from many supporters.

He is a quality player who even below his best is still a very good footballer. With a little more support from Carlton supporters he may even approach his best again.

In his present state of condition I would probably agree that next to Fev around the square could be his best spot. His ruckwork alone in the forward pocket would be invaluable.

A confident Whitnall will be a great contributor, a confident and fit Whitnall will be a star for many years to come.

Has found some touch and when a few of those handballs and kicks start finding their mark you realise how clever he is. He has tried to be clever all year with his option taking but poor execution makes him look silly. The last couple of games, his disposal has improved and he has looked better.

Did anyone notice how many poor options Leppitsch took for the Lions in the first half against Essendon? Happens to the best of them.

I am tiring of only getting half a season out of Lance though, less when he gets injured.

I agree 100% with your above statement. Unfortunately Whitnall has never been fully fit his entire career. Would love to one day see what he could do if he got him self right. Presently players like Brown, Neitz, Hall and Treadrea have all gone past him, IMO in terms of the value that they contribute to their teams, and yet 5 years ago Whitnall looked like he was going to be a successor to Carey and the best CHF of this generation.

Unfortunately I think that he will be one of the players whose career will go downhill, due to soft tissue injuries, unless he decides to invest some time in the off season and really focus on his body. For him to be truelly honest he needs to put on off field as well as on and based on his continual struggles to get fit I do not think his commitment is quiet there.

having a look at him friday night he seems fitter to me ...

he is very handy as a ruckman up forward and on the wing, uses his body very well ....

seeing him balk his opponent and run into that goal makes me think he's got a bit of confidence back ....

bring on the tigers!!! C'mon lance kick a bag .... show us all what ur made of!!!

GO BLUES.

I think Lance is a top player.

I don't mean to be negative, but I will lol :)

Take this as contructive criticism!

I have noticed the last few weeks that Lance has no penatration in his kick, he seems to miss easy goals and not make the distance.

Also, as everyone knows, Lance is not skinny, or fat to us general joe blows.. but for a footballer he is over weight, a few players are over weight (Dean Rioli etc.) But it doesn't mean they are not top footballers.
The problem with Lance, is that he has no muscle around the shoulders, if he could get some muscle in his shoulders he would be even better :) ... Stevie Wright told me this (250 odd games with Sydney and currently the coach of North Ballarat VFL side, I live next door to him)

But! Lance is back to his best and I hope he can kick 3 or 4 goals on saturday against Richmond and I hope he runs a muck, he will have to with Richo, Ottens, Hall, - Tigers have some tall timber.

That is why he has to be traded. WHat good is he to us if he's not going to play half the time? Does he do everything possible to prepare himself to the best of the ability?

Did anyone else hear David Parkins comments on 3LO before the game started - David said that one time while Lance was up at the fat farm - he was actually not doing what the club was asking him to do

He still does not do enough for someone on 500 a year.
