Lorde, Haim and Earl Sweatshirt top the bill for the 2014 St. Jerome's Laneway festival.

It's gonna be a strong Laneway for ladies, with Lorde and Haim being joined by female-fronted acts like Scotland's Chvrches, English post-punk band Savages and Aussie faves The Jezabels, who'll be playing their first shows on home soil in more than a year.

You'll also be able to catch sets from touted internationals like Jamie XX, Kurt Vile and King Krule at the festival, which kicks off in Brisbane on January 31 after stops in New Zealand and Singapore.

Jamie XX joined Tom and Alex on triple j Breakfast this morning to help announce the lineup, and said he was stoked to be coming back to Australia for some Laneway shows:

"I'm really excited," he said. "We did Laneway a few years ago with the XX and it was really fun".

I am working my way through the ones I don't know on Spotify this morning at work.

Listening to Drenge right now. Grungey, garage rock that will be good for a festival spot. Will suit Laneway.

Cass McCombs was very interesting in a lo-fi folk kinda way. Will look forward to watching him.

Danny Brown represents everything that I hate about rap music. ******s, Bitches seems to be the limit of his song writing.

Daughter were interesting. Electro/indie folk. Really liked the girl's voice and keen to catch them.

Autre Neu Veut. He sounds like Mika.

Cashmere Cat. Interesting beats but not really my cup of tea.

Dick Diver. Aussie pop band that I really enjoyed. Interesting mix with some Triffids references. (I don't make a reference to The Triffids lightly - best Aussie band ever).

Chvrches. Electro pop. Will be ok to see live but did not think much of the album I just listened to. Maybe they are a bit over hyped.

I need to check out a lot more, but very keen to see Kurt Vile and JamieXX :thumbsu:

Looks like it really lacks a couple of real top notch headliners but will probably still go.

Big wrap for Four Tet and Frightened Rabbit.

Also keen to see Danny Brown, Run The Jewels and Kurt Vile. Jezabels are cool too.

From what I've read/heard Unknown Mortal Orchestra might be another band worth looking into as well.

Great - see you there. I'll be the one with the beard and the checked shirt ... oh ... never mind.

Who are your must-sees?

I'm really keen for Parquet Courts, Jagwar Ma, Unknown Mortal Orchestre and Kurt Vile.

Haha.

My must-see act is Run The Jewels. I'm going to America for about 5 weeks at the start of the year and I am organising to get back to Sydney in time for Laneway pretty much just to see them. I'm that keen on them right now.

Kurt Vile, Savages, Danny Brown, Daughter, Haim, XXYYXX and Youth Lagoon are the others that I'm really excited to see. Lorde, Earl Sweatshirt, Drenge, Four Tet and CHVRCHES would also be fun. I'm going to have to make some decisions throughout the day regarding who I'm willing to miss.

Yeah, there will definitely be some clashes and more will become apparent as I work my way through having a good listen to some of the acts on the lineup that I don't know so well.

I'm unsure what XXYYXX would sound like live, they have real melancholy sort of stuff. Should be interesting. It'll be humorous if Danny Brown gets up to the same hi jinks as he infamously did on stage before.

Was a little disappointed with the line-up, especially no Washed Out. Was really hoping he'd come to Australia.

Will still probably go I reckon. Youth Lagoon is the act I'm most looking forward to.

In hindsight, there is not enough to get me excited enough to go.

I have spent a lot of money lately so needing to prioritise and the BDO is the winner for me.

It's a pity because the new venue in Fremantle will be interesting.

Laneway purposefully doesn't 'do' headliners. They're actually really smart about their growth, unlike blokes like AJ Maddah who just bulge out and go too hard, too soon. Someone always ends up breaking out and becoming the de facto headliner. Florence one year, The xx, M83, and probably Chvrches or the frustratingly overhyped and "omg she's 16!!!!!"-d Lorde this edition.

It's a pity because the new venue in Fremantle will be interesting.

The old West End is a really idyllic setting for it. It'll be cool to see some good bands there and not have a crowd who make you feel sheepish or full of anger. Pity the Melbourne venue is just way too big and in a setting far from cool.

I'll pay the lineup, though. King Krule is great and I'm surprised to see him here. I'll definitely lock in his sideshow. Getting Danny Brown and Earl was a bit of a coup. Chvrches will be good fun and bring a crowd, Dick Diver couldn't be anything but good in the mid-arvo sun, Four Tet would bring it live; Jamie XX even more so. Mount Kimbie would be sick to see.

The rest is mostly overhyped, middling indie shite, though.

But it's a very, very consistent and solid lineup. They've done well.

Melbourne.

That last 4 hours looks like clash central.

Future Classic stage looks good value all day. Dean Turner stage looks boring for the most part.

edit - Four Tet closer would be insane. Pop a tab a couple of hours before and you'd be cruising.

If you think of Laneway like a venn diagram, there's plenty of niche interests but there's a huge overlapping sector. And that sector is generally trendy, Pitchfork-approved bands who couldn't sell out the Forum but can do the Corner well.

So why have HAIM, Lorde, Earl Sweatshirt, King Krule, and Danny Brown all clash? Surely shouldn't you sacrifice some egos and stagger it a little better? Lorde can headline one stage, have Earl Sweatshirt on the other, and give then have the Four Tet and Jamie xx sets on the others. I remember them scheduling Yuck and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart to open the Perth one when I went. So dumb. They sound so similar they're going to share 80% of the crowd they each drew. Well beyond me.

It's not as bad as the Foals/Deerhunter clash of 2011.

At 6pm as well.

Only a fool would choose Foals out of that ...

The one real clash that annoys me (for Sydney) is Kurt Vile / Parquet Courts / Jagwar Ma. Is Kurt Vile playing the shows solo or with The Violators? I'll probably end up at Parquet Courts either way.

I chose Foals that day and didn't regret it at all. Was right after the release of TLF, which was the soundtrack to my Year 12.

Got into Deerhunter in a big way much later.

Does anyone have a ticket? I can only pick it up at the festival or somewhere in the inner city. I'll love ya.
