I was saying that just because he was guilty of giving the finger, doesn't mean that it was a reportable offence to begin with. You can be guilty of any trivial offence; it doesn't mean you should be suspended - since when is insulting the crowd a suspendable offence?

You've hit the nail on the coffin there, Blues2001. I have seen many instances of crowd abusing at the footy, and not one of them have been reported, yet suspendable. Why does Lappin have to suddenly get suspended for this? I'm sure there were far worse acts than that in the past...

I think people arguing that Lappin should have been punished should have a look next time one of their players is brought up on something trivial. If you see all of the Carlton fans on here standing at the front of the cue baying for their blood, then you would have justified your stance here but apart from that you are being even more biased against Lappo than we are for him considering the offence. Surprised to see some Cat fans joining the party for no good reason. Guess team loyalty far outweighs any common sense?

It was a silly report and of course Lappin should not have been suspended, how ludicrous.

However, I reckon he should have been slapped across the wrist. The line here needs to be laid down by the Tribunal; he did do something silly and once it was reported he should have been found guilty.

Yes that creates team harmony. Everyone is happy.

We are building a close-knit group of players who are there for each other on and off the ground. Murphy had made it known that he didn't want to be there and knowing that there was a player who wanted to be elsewhere was causing nothing but in house problems. He was a disruptive influence and with such a young list he wouldn't be much of a role model, not that he is one anyway.

So we will tumble down the ladder because we are trying to build a club of decent individuals as well as a close knit team. Oh well, it is Carlton logic.

Along with Freo v Hawthorn and North v Collingwood, has anyone noticed that Carlton v Geelong has become quite a significant bigfooty rivalry?

I couldn't get over how empty the stands looked and for Ratten's first game as capt! What's with you fans? ...a small absolutely unadvertised practice match of the dons/swans for the past two years has been absolutely packed.. uphill fight to get thru to the beer stand they say 15,000 this year...so what gives with the blues fans?

If Lappin gets pings I hope he goes down for a long period mid season...I still wince at the sight of him left alone in the gaol square ...why? sheeds why?

To be fair, Sydney footy fans knew that was the only match that they'd be likely to see until the regular season starts.

True..the Swans love thier fans so much that they don't play a pre-season game here in Sydney.
And the Dons always get a fair crowd here ..they are doing a great job developing the game here.
BTW I heard that the Sydney Bombers (who won the NSW competion with no fanfare ..which I think is a fair acheivement as they defeated teams like the Swans seconds who have Swans pro players in them.)won't be using lovely North Sydney oval this season.
