Well as usual it has come down to the last hour of trade week and stuff all has happened….or so it seems. Just what have Sticky and Swannie got planned that might snare us some ready to go players from the opposition or improve our draft picks situation? Firstly let’s look at our trading currency, then our existing picks and finally our potential Trade targets.
Based on the possible value to other clubs lists, these players have peaked some interest or been discussed and could be traded in the next 1 hour:
Armfield
Bentick
Blackwell
Browne
Edwards
Fisher
Hadley
Hartlett
Houlihan
Russell
Setanta
Thornton
Our existing Draft picks are: 6, 24, 40, 56, 72 & 88.
Our supposed Trade targets are:
Clarke
Green
Harris
Jones
O’Keefe
Thorpe
Warnock
White
Our supposed early Draft targets are:
Hartlett
Hurley
Johnston
McKernan
Sidebottom
Trengrove
Vickery
Yarran
Ziebell
Knowing that the deadline is looming and some clubs are very nervous that they won’t get a deal over the line in time, some panic trading is sure to occur. There are TPP issues, out of contract scenarios, reluctance to move cities and determination to get to a certain club dilemmas. How can we strike to get the best outcome for the Navy Blue?
I reckon we gotta think outside the square here and if we do we could end up with a brilliant outcome.
Consider these players situations:
The X man can’t understand why his younger brother is the preferred option at Linton Street.
Green has put a squillion on his head and is frustrated with the lack of support at Melbourne.
Harris has had a huge falling out with Loony Laidley and wants a fresh start elsewhere.
Jones doesn’t get along with anybody at Arden Street, but is a goal kicker who wants out too.
We have already read that O’Keefe wants to come home to Victoria and particularly to Carlton!
Taken at pick 6 a couple of years ago, Thorpe has had a few problems at Dawksville but would be handy in our front half.
We have heard repeatedly that Warnock wants to wants to return to Victoria ply his wares at Princes Park!
White is without a club and would play for next to nothing just to extend his career, but hopefully in Melbourne.
We have potential player currency, draft picks and targets to deal with. We have our own TPP to deal with, but not to the extent that some clubs have. We have the ninety minutes left today and of course the National Draft and the Pre-Season Draft to snare our quarry.
I would forget Clarke because he is a soft as butter. Green has overpriced himself and I think we have similar types at Royal Parade anyway. Harris could be a chance probably for a player swap. Jones would be a plan b option if we couldn’t get ROK. O’Keefe is a proven match winner and should be pursued further. Warnock is still our main target as our young rucks develop and White would only be a filler to provide experience for the same reason as Warnock.
If Icke and Swann are patient until about 1.30, then Paul Roos will panic thinking that he is going to loose ROK to the PSD for nothing. They then offer Pick 24 and if this is rejected then Pick 24 and AB with a possible swap of later picks in our favour. They chuck Thornton at Hawthorn for Thorpe plus a later pick possibly third round. Offer Edwards to North for Harris. Offer them a late pick for Jones. Sit and wait for the blinkers. Put a squillion on Warnocks head and hopefully get him in the PSD.
We could end up with 3-4 valuable players to address some of our depth deficiencies. It will be very interesting over the next hour!
