Last nights commentary

Was it just me, or is it only a matter of time before BRUCE dons the gimp mask and invites the palm tree over for some pink and black cigar nom nom nomming?

Honestly, last nights call was one of the most contrived and pathetic displays of commentary that I can recall. Ever!

Cometti was no better, and it seemed, to me at least, that he and BRUCE got together before the game and decided to hype the crap out of NicNat, regardless of what happened.

In saying that, NicNat, did some nice things. But he was up against no-one in the ruck. And yet at throw-ins still found himself behind the opposition ruckman and had to rely on his leap.

Let's see how he goes against a real ruckman who will jump into him at centre bouncedowns and go body to body with him at throw ins. Lets see how he goes when his space is blocked and when he cops a decent block/shirtfront when the ball hits the deck.

He's a good young kid. But he has an eternity to go before he reaches the stellar heights that BRUCE, Dennis and no doubt the slime supporters, are crowing about.

Channel 7 commentary seem to do that, Talk up one player if they kick a miraculous goal and then if they get 1 quality posseion for he rest of the game they say: hes a star b.o.g even if someone like Watson played better.

Worse still was Cometti's little gem after the game that Freo will live to regret moving Peake on to St Kilda. Seemed to think that Peake could be the difference for them in 2010. He delivered that assessment dead pan, despite the many times I can recall him audibly groaning on witnessing a typical Peake forward 50 entry (off the shin, helicoptering etc. etc.).

When was the last time he ever reflected favourably on anything Freo? He's trapped in a time warp and blithely ignores the metamorphosis our football department has undergone.

I'm glad I missed that from Cometti or I may well have been up for a new TV this morning.

I think both commentators are getting worse, particularly Bruce but I did think Nik Nat was amazing last night. Sure it was just a practice match against not much in the way of talls but gee he did some exciting things. I enjoyed watching him at Swans and I enjoy watching him now, so what if he plays for the drug cheats? The kid is a star.

Indeed E-shed, he is exciting to watch. It's disappointing from a neutrals perspective though, because they ruined the game with their constant harping on about it. We can see, we aint stupid!!!

They did exactly the same thing with Rioli on 08. Blind freddy could see what a great player he is, yet Bruce and Dennis' constant fawning over him made the game LESS enjoyable!

Tom Harley was pretty good though, seemed to try and comment on other players when maybe he sensed the other 2 were off in 'nic nat give it whack' land.

The problem for him will be being consistent.
Bruce & Cometti, two of the biggest nut scratchers in the country IMO.

Sideshow Bob played on the ruck 'guns' of Bellchambers & Bock in a practice match and is hailed a gun. The pre planned fan fair is amusing but expected.....

Coming from a WCE supporter, I do agree that the commentators went over the top last night. At times I was literally just saying shut up to the television because they woudnt stop going on about NN. There were 43 other players out there.

Thats not to say NN didnt have a good game.

..but we're talking about AFL.
As crazy as this must sound to some of you, Jackovich dosent act like a flog such as Commetti, Russell etc and is balanced. When he calls a derby he is actually on the fence.

Nicnat is an exciting talent but he also has a lot of work to do in areas of his game - John Worsfold said as much during the 3 quarter time interview.

It's one thing for Eagles fans to get hardons over, as tbh we haven't had a lot to get excited about the last couple of years, but Bruce was horrible last night. He's infatuation with certain players is ridiculous and it actually gets in the way of enjoying the football of those players.

Called Rioli delicious last year and I'm sure I heard him call Naitanui and exotic animal last night. WTF?

At least Dennis seemed to acknowledge in the post game wrap that they went OTT.

Hopefully the hype around Nicnat will settle down sooner rather than later. Maybe Morabito can play a blinder in his 1st game and everyone will be raving about him instead.

Oh and as for Peake - he'll be an AA wingman this year, it's the ex-Freo boy way.

Pretty sure Peake will be one to break that trend though.
