WEST Coast has announced an expanded 10-man leadership group for the 2011 season, with youngster Scott Selwood promoted ahead of his fourth AFL campaign.

What a disgrace! A 10 man leadership group, including Selwood.

Now i'll be the first to admit that our leadership stocks are not the highest in the AFL, but we have some good up and comers with leadership 'potential' *shudders*

God forbid the day we have a 10 man leadership group! Wankiest thing to happen since Sydney named 6 captains!

Our 'leadership group' is already too big, a team needs a captain and a v captain. Period. Sure they need a strong core of senior players around them, but called them what they are SENIOR PLAYERS! I'm sick to death of this leadership group crap, sound like something out of 'The View'

pull up a few more of those comfy looking pinstriped chairs and i can see the whole WC 'leadership team' snuggling up next to bloody Bette Midler and talking about which shade of beige they like better

This is a disgrace, i hope 'leadership teams' die out just like flooding and Kevin Sheedy!

I wholeheartedly agree. 10 is absolutely ridiculous. Before you know it they'll have to name the players who aren't in the leadership group to make it easier!

I also suggest you post this on the West Coast board as well as they would no doubt love to hear our views! :D

Totally agree. If there's so many people in the leadership group it subtracts the authority from the captain. All of a sudden he doesn't seem so special.

I've always been the fan of One captain and then two vice captains depending on where the captain usually plays. For example Green will most likely be playing forward this year. So have Beamer as a vice to keep control of the middle and Rivers as a vice to organise defence.

I think it was Brisbane that had 5 captains in 2007 (Black, Brown, Johnson Lappin, Power). And then 4 captains the following year (Johnson retired). It ruins the honour board, looks like an absolute shemozzle. Won't somebody please think of the honour boards!

looks like back to back spoons for west coast :D
what odds are they again ?

Had a feeling this thread might be about us..... :D

We have one captain (Glass) and one vice captain (Waters). The rest is pretty much irrelevant. I think 5 teams had 8 man leadership groups last season. It's a lot more to do with mentoring and off-field stuff rather than on field.

If anyone has a 10 man leadership group or whatever thats their business. Just stick to one captain and one vice captain. I'd prefer if we had stuck to this formula. 3 vice capt I can deal with, duel captains are not just not cool.

Half of the side on matchday will be a part of the leadership group, and as such, it will be marginalised to such an extent that it won't even be worth having.

How clubs arrive at some of the decisions they make is staggering, to be honest.
