Led v plasma - for viewing afl

The discussion has already been had, but for future interest I'll put my 2c worth in.

I have been watching the footy for about 7 years on a 42 inch Sony Bravia LCD. I have no issues with ghosting or any real quality issues at all. The reason I went with an LCD was concern over burn in issues at the time, and it handles ambient light better so I can watch the footy with the curtains open/lights on if I want to. Its also pretty handy to connect the laptop to for downloaded games.

Helps that Sony are the absolute best LCD/LED you can buy. Plasma still better in general for sport though.

darn it, i recently made the decision to geta LED instead of a plasma and now this thread has me changing my mind again.

Plasmas are cheaper too though so theres a plus for them.

Im looking at a 60 inch tv at the moment, might be able to con the Mrs into a 65 if im lucky.

Bump.

Tossing up between a 65" Panasonic Plasma (VT50) or a 65" LED of some description (probably Samsung or Sony).

Having trouble deciding which one will be a better all round TV, and whether it's worth spending the extra on the Pana. I know plasma's used to be better for sport, but that was a couple of years ago before LED technology really caught up, and now I'm not sure which way to go. Any recommendations?

The plasma's are getting harder and harder to come by, and Pana have stopped making them so this is the last model. It does get great reviews though.

Plasma seems to have a rather vocal following that thinks it's the only way to go, but these days I think LCD has overtaken them. LCD also has the added bonus of using a lot less power and generating a lot less heat.

Coming up to 9 years now and still going strong. I'm going to have to upgrade soon just to get multiple HDMI ports and USB recording.

They will be talking about the Panasonic Plasmas when the world runs out of oil and we're all living in caves.

I take it that is a recommendation for the plasma?

Well, I've got one of the last Pioneers (only 720p though) so it's got a bit to live up to! Just need to increase from the 50", moved house and now a little small for the area.

Different strokes for different folks, but for me, absolutely.

I was adamant about plasma for years, watched footy on Sunday on the Gf's new LED Sony and it makes my plasma of the same size look second rate (granted my plasma is now 7 years old), image is sharper no need to draw the curtains, no motion blurr.

Long story short find somewhere that has both, play around with the settings (most stores **** with things like colour settings to make some models stand out over others)

Don't let gear heads influence your decision by telling you about things you won't notice, go have a look at both and make the decision yourself.

On a related note is it ethical to marry a woman for her tele?

In short, yes.

Decided on the Pana 65". Watched them all, I still prefer plasma for the black levels and fast moving sports.
