I thought this federal election I would vote below the line in the senate, so I was going through all the candidates/parties. and have notice that there are the Greens the Socialist Alliance and the Socialist Equalty Party. I was just wondering what the difference is so I can rank them accordingly. The small right wing parties seem to be one issue parties which makes them easy to rank.

The Socialist Alliance are basically a rebranded Communist Party of Australia encompassing a range of far-left groups. The Socialist Equality party are guys who think the Socialist Alliance is too right wing.

For a more formal explanation, the SEP are Trotskyists whilst the SA are dominated by Marxists. The Alliance is not really a coherent political party - they tend to focus more on running campaigns on various far left/socialist causes. Mainly because they can never agree on anything.

The SEP primarily about shouting down everything and everyone that's not them in effect, a benefit of this however is you at least know where they stand (outside of batshit crazy) on several issues, a key issue in '07 was the dual war we were involved in and what resonated with many was the sheer abuse sledged at all and sundry going so far as to label the US as fraudulent criminals, and in this case attacking the ousting of Rudd.

Pretty much they're about shouting louder than the other mob, and the only time you get anything from them is if you manage to actually attend a meeting, and upon which you saw where they then lost any support they had through ridiculous aged old propaganda which never has and never will work in society, instead of paraphrasing;

* For the expropriation of the banks and giant financial institutions. For the nationalisation of the major corporations

None of these measures can be implemented without a fundamental reorganisation of the Australian and world economy in the interests of the majority. The accumulated wealth created by the working class must be directed to the satisfaction of pressing social needs, with the banks and giant financial institutions expropriated, with full protection to small depositors, and placed under public ownership, democratically controlled by the working class. Likewise the major, multi-billion dollar corporations—including telecommunications, energy, mining and agriculture—must be nationalised, with full compensation to small shareholders, and subjected to public ownership and democratic control. This will provide the resources necessary to eliminate poverty and meet the social needs of the Australian and world population. Only when social need, not private profit, becomes the organising principle of production and all aspects of social life, will the extraordinary human and technical resources that are now available be utilised to provide a decent living standard and safe environment for all.

Have people at "pull out of Iraq & Afghanistan!" lose them at "abolish the entire financial institutions as you understand them!". So yeah, think Bolshevik and you're pretty close to the SEP in their fervent dislike of most things.
