Leigh Brown – The Magician

Those were the words Bruce McAvaney blurted out last night when ‘Leroy Brown’ kicked a torpedo from 70 metres that somehow bounced on its point and went through for a fantastic goal. Shane Warne was famous for turning the ball at the MCG but this was unbelievable. From that moment on it was certainly ominous that it would be Collingwood’s night.

Hi everyone.

Did a quick piece on Leigh Brown. He has been sensational this year, his one percentagers have improved. That chase when the game was dead against Daniel Cross was fantastic. Feel free to comment on the article and post your favourite Leigh Brown moments. Good luck this week.

Cheers.

His fumbling and bumbling against Geelong in the 2007 Qualifying Final when the big fella looked absolutely petrified were the highlight for me.

For four long years I talked the great man up and after that I could no longer stand up for him.

A super fella though from all accounts, and the occasions I have met him he has been genuinely a true gentleman.

However I can't get out of my head the way he let me down at North, so all the best, but I do not want to ever forget!!!!

That goal was magical. I've met him at a VFL match earlier in the year. Such a down to earth, funny bloke. Really deserves all he's achieved. Much maligned player, but gives his heart and soul to the club, and hopefully this time next week will have a premiership medallion around his neck for his perseverance.

One correction on the article .. His nickname "the Anvil" came from Dennis Cometti when he was playing for Freo. I must admit, I think it's one of the best nick names I've ever heard for a person....and I used to make up quite a few in my school days.

For those not into metal work, google anvil and you will see what i mean.

He came to Freo with huge expectations on him. He was always considered a wasted pick. No one cried when he left. It happened again at North.

It just shows you what can happen when a coach makes a stand and supports his player. Well done to the people who bagged leroy..you made him what he is today..

He has become a superstar ever since my wife become his number 1 fan.
At the Collingwood family day at start of season, he was in the same tent as Maxwell and another player. I forgot who. They were signing autographs.
My wife and kids lined up and got to start of cue.
My wife snubs Maxwell and tells him to learn to kick - Tells him she wants nothing from him.
Maxwell gets a shock and the other player starts pissing himself laughing.
She says all she wants is a Photo with Leigh Brown which he obliged to.
The whole scenario was a laugh.
BTW - He has been fantastic and is really a top bloke.
He deserves the success that has come his way - Thanks to the support from his coach. Good on you Mick Malthouse for turning his career around. :thumbsu:

Yes RECOGNISE what a player he's become.
I don' think the North Melbourne hierachy ever imagined that Leigh would be the player he is today!

Hi ability to recover from contests on fri night was mind blowing, crashed the pack and then got his own crumbs

He dead set has a license to kill blokes on Saturday.
I can only say I am absolutely hanging to find out how Anvil is going to rub out Chris Judd at the opening bounce???

Mick might start him in one of the super boxes.:D

He is a good footy story, it's hard not to like him.

One word....MOJO.

The Anvil is constructed of 110% Testosterone, 40% Single mindedness and 60% Cosmic Harmony.

At exactly 6.00pm on the 27th of May 2009, Cyberdyne Systems computer became aware of Leigh Brown and aborted take over of the human race.
Anvil keeps the system at home to manage his lighting and mp3 collection.:D

actually, he lost a few games when playing in the Magoos
Played:

Rd. 4 (Werribee Tigers) - Collingwood Win
Rd. 5 (Geelong) - Collingwood Win
Rd. 6 (Frankston) - Collingwood Win
Rd. 7 (Gold Coast) - Collingwood Win

Back into the Seniors for the Rd. 11 win over the Western Bulldogs, only missing the Rd. 22 loss against Hawthorn.

He possesses more "win" than Charlie Sheen

When Charlie sheen says win he actually speaking a coded word for Leigh brown

All of Charlie sheen's trouble have come from trying and failing at being as awesome as the anvil

Did you all notice how the Anvil was frequently riding shotgun and providing protection for Blair on Friday as Carscum players tried to monster the little guy? He must get some credit for the great game that Blair had. I too was one of the Anvils critics when he first arrived at Pie land, I was wrong and I now think he was a fantastic recruit for us and in no small part contributed to our flag and overall dominance.

After Charlie's first show where he was boo'd off, audience members who remained behind after the show had ended could hear the sound of solid iron backstage. Charlie's next show was a hit, wowing fans in Chicago.

It is still unknown to the American audience what that sound was, but ask players like Walker, Cousins and Dawson, they know.
