this guy is having an outstanding year, the last 3 weeks he's averaged 30 possessions, his ability to break the lines is second to none, i watched him closely on saturday night and he has a huge engine, he ran all night. they tagged him with jackson and he just ran him off his legs. i must give credit to my brother who said pre-season watchout for joey this year.
keep going joey and st.kilda, we need to make finals for harvey!
go saints!
big game this week

would have to be close to Best and Fairest, Harvey has been super, but missed 3, Dal has been awesome when hes good, but very poor when hes not... and Sam Fisher has also missed a few games

coped a fair bit of stick early in the season with some heavy hits against carlton and obviosuly hawthorn when he broke his jaw... shown another side to his game this yr than just the run and carry, has been good in close

leads team in kicks and possessions and 4th in tackles

only critisism is his finishing this yr... 6 goals 8... and id throw in a few Out of bounds in there... not the same finishing class this yr as we've seen in the past from joey...

Yeah 6 goals 8 is a bit dissapointing. He could've kicked 3 or 4 on the weekend alone i reckon. Its dissapointing that all our main midfielders struggle to kick goals...
ball - 1 goal 5 (this year)
dal - 6.5
hayes - 1.7
harvs - 4.3

this is an area that we've really got to improve to take the pressure off the fwd's.

ANyways, back to Joey. He's been in white-hot form. He was at the fore-front of some of the set plays in the centre square bounce on the weekend. Hes becoming somewhat of a clearance specialist.

Another thing - i wish Gram could kick as well as Joey. Gram has got that same line-breaking ability, but his disposal (especially the last 2 games) has been terrible. He's a booming kick but his kicking around the ground is too inaccurate.

I'm just throwing this out there - I know it's may be a far stretch, but...

Could the increased reliance on our running players to play accountable & run hard all game leave the guys with fatigued legs and be something that may be causing our inaccuracy?

Could the change of focus on building leg strength also be taking it's toll, perhaps moreso in the first half of the year?

gram does have good skills. just of recent times heis kicking has let him down but i think he's carrying something atm, he needs to play because he's so important to the team.

Outstanding season. Played a ripper against the tigers, and that last qrt was something special.

I was hoping Mcqualter would develop into a similar player.....but it doesn't look like it. He did play really well for casey apparently.

McQualter played probably his best game ever for Casey, He has the capacity to polay extremely wel at AFL level but doesn't seem to have the confidence at the moment.

Joey has been awesome, really happy with him, his gut running is unbelievable, definately learnt a thing or two off harvs, plus joes has got that tad bit extra pace to burn.

got on him for the brownlow aswell as sammy mitchell after round 3 what are your thoughts on that how will he have voted i shoot me down if u disagree but i rate him ahead of dal santo

Has Joey been tagged by anyone yet? Or are teams still putting their taggers on Dal and Bally?... or Harvey... or Hayes...?

I know that in quite a few games Joey has actually been "tagging" one of the oppositions best midfielders at different stages of the game. For instance, he actually played quite a bit of the last quarter last week on Foley. This makes the opposing player have to start trying to be accountable and in turn limiting their output.

That said, i would be surprised if he didn't cop a hard tag this week.

Apart from Foley's centre break and goal early in that last quarter, Joey held him to account beautifully and was the key reason why we ran away from them late in the game :thumbsu:

Actually, it was Ball who changed his approach on Foley after the first quarter. Foley didn't even see the footy the whole second quarter. And not until the middle of the last quarter was Montagna given the job on him, when our breakaway goals were already on the board.
Yet, he's had an outstanding last month (the first part of the season was not as brilliant and he still misses to many shots on goal, even some out on the full kicks).
