Interesting article on Leon Cameron:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...-coach-next-year/story-fn6cisdj-1226062293822

I like the bit where it says:

He has been a key factor in the development of youngsters like Luke Shiels, Shane Savage, and Luke Bruest :)

Would hate to lose him but head coach is what most assistants want to be..

Reporters and/or editors could at least check player's names. Also, I would think B.Bolton would have been more influence tha Cameron.

Why are opposition clubs always after our assistant coaches...its becoming annoying. Hardwick, Viney and now Cameron. FFS go steal from Collingwood, they are the reiging premiers or even the Cats (undefeated).

HUN should be banished from all reference. They not only make up drivel, but they cannot even perform simple tasks like getting people's names right. Leon Cameron did not develop these players, Brendan Bolton, Alastair Clarkson and others did. This poor excuse for a newspaper continues to spew out rubbish like it's going out of fashion.

I just posted this to the article's comments section. I wonder if the Herald-Sun will print it.

Another pathetic article from Jon Ralph who clearly has NFI. It's Liam Shiels - a cursory glance at the Footy Record or the Hawthorn website or the dozens of other sites that track AFL player statistics would have told you his correct name. The "Little Paper" also managed to mis-spell Luke Breust's name.

Not to mention that Leon Cameron, despite your sub-editor's best efforts, is no longer at the Western Bulldogs.

Plus the entire tenor of your article is bogus. You even admit that nobody is agitating against Rocket Eade, except the Herald-Sun, who is desperate to link any "coach in waiting" to the Bulldogs.

Simply not good enough.

Jon Ralph is a peanut, like all his Herald-Sun colleagues.

Viney left Hawthorn because his wife had had enough of Melbourne and wanted to go back to SA.

Every assistant coach worth his salt has a clause in his contract that allows him to walk away from his current job if he wins the role of senior coach at another club. How did you think we managed to hire Clarkson at the end of 2004?

Leon Cameron was highly regarded as a possible senior coach before he joined Hawthorn, so it's no surprise that the meeja is again linking him to a role currently occupied by a coach under pressure.

If you had read the article, you would have read the peanut Ralph also refer to a couple of Collingwood assistant coaches, plus Brenton Sanderson (assistant at the Cats) is normally talked up as a possible head coach.

To be honest for the club I always thought Cameron was insurance against a poor season start for Clarkson (club has a caretaker and potential senior coach if things went pair shaped). For Leon getting a year in the field was so he could attack the bulldogs job fresh with the bonus option of applying for the hawthorn position if it arrived. I don't think we have a long term option here.

So Leon has come across to broaden his knowledge and feather his nest?

I'd expect nothing less. In fact I like these ambitious assistant coaches. It kills you when they leave but they have passion. The dogs are falling and we're rising. Sure, there's more to it than a single assistant coach but it's hard to ignore the relative positions of the teams Leon has been involved with.

I always thought we lost a lot passion when Dimma left. Viney seemed more of a tactician while Hardwick seemed like the grunt and motivation man. This is all speculation from a distance, but that's how I saw it. Our centre clearance set up turned to the brown stuff when Viney left, but the passion really disappeared when Dimma left.

Again, I'm over-simplifying, but I found these coincidences hard to ignore.

Agree, would rather have a revolving door of ambitious assistants than long term spuds. Would be nice to get a few years out of Leon but I just don't think it will happen, don't understand how these stories make news "Highly rated assistant coach wants to further his career."

Despite their shellacking, I see the Dogs as a danger game for obvious reasons. I wonder if Cameron will be able to provide any critical insights into his former team that we can use to our advantage?

I recall that Hawthorn actually stole him from us.

And if you go back further everything went to shit when Conno`lly left Schwab's coaching team. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not.
