May have been touched on in the review threads, and I apologize if it has. But the job he did on Schneider was top class. Schneider always gets under our guard and kicks 3-4 goals, Leon killed him and kept him goaless!

His defensive ability 1-on-1 is as good as any small defender in the league and I think he has cemented a role down back. It's not only his defensive ability but his foot skills and rebound. he is 2nd to only Heath Shaw in his rebound ability. He is reminding me of AA Leon, when he rotated through the midfield and made opponents look silly - I'm not suggesting he is AA :D

Just really happy for him as I didn't know if he had a place in the team anymore, but he is showing us all he is more than deserving of a place in our 22. Can't wait to see him line up on Fyfe and be really tested!:thumbsu:

Was the cleanest and most evasive player on the ground when the situation demanded clean possession.

Some of those one-hand pick ups at full flight and then to dash away were just brilliant. That goal was also a magical moment.

It's fair to say Leon has regained his touch, his zip, his sidestep and pace from last season. Whilst he has been very good down back you can just about safely put him anywhere on the ground and be confident he will deliver. He is certainly a great weapon to have.

Nick Maxwell was on that Seven footy show this morning and he stated that Leon has been told to mind his man first, and then attack, and you can see he is slowly coming around to playing in the backline.

He got beat by Jetta (?) on ANZAC day, but since then he has gradually improved the defensive side of his game, and he is now as reliable as any of our defenders.

And that goal wow, game changing/securing stuff.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

We need to get Leon a flag, he shouldn't have been dropped for the replay last year, I believe it was an injustice, but this year he will be a massive part of our push for back to back, and barring injury he will be playing the whole finals series.

Those one handed pickups as a backman were something special. Fantastic for Leon, full credit to Malthouse and crew for his re-invention. Another demonstration the pies lead the football world off-field as well as on

Was unsure of the move to the backline at first and have remained with a reserved opinion until now, I'm a convert - appears to be making the adjustment well and adds bite, venom and run to an already potent back half for us.

Well done Mick and well done Leon.

One of the commentators last night, might've been Darcy, gave credit to Malthouse for having the vision to reinvent Leon as a backman, and not just removing him from the side and wasting his great disposal skills. I thought that was a good point, how many of us on here thought Leon was finished after GF2, and especially after Krakouer was brought to the club? I did, couldn't see how he'd squeeze into the side. Had my doubts about the move down back but don't anymore, it was a masterstroke by Mick, now we have another great asset with Leons fantastic kicking skills delivering into the forward 50, and clearing it out of the defensive 50. And with our press he can always press up forward and score the odd cheapy like he did last night :)

Kudos Mick, fantastic coaching.

He smashed Jetta on ANZAC day. He hasn't lost his spot yet, in fact he's made his man look silly in every game he's played there.

I agree we need to get him a flag, but he deserved to be dropped for the replay. In hindsight, his inclusion wouldn't have made a difference, but in GF1 he was pretty woeful except for that goal in the 4th.

He had a lot of the ball on Jetta, but defensively Leon allowed Jetta to have too many shots at goal (5-6).

He has improved markedly since then with his one on one defensive efforts, you can see that the coaching staff have been working hard with him in that area.

He was always going to be great attacking off half back with his speed and skill, it was his defensive ability that was always going to be in question, but after the last few games I don't think it is any more.

Leon just adds to the versatility of our backline. Johnson, Shaw, Leon, O'Brien, Tarrant all have the ability to play forward, or in the middle. They are also very competent defenders, having conceded the least amount of points in the league.

I'd absolutely love to see Taz and Leon collect a medal on grand final day.

Hate to be the one to say I told you so.. but I did so there you go.
Davis is a superstar, he should never have been moved from the midfield after his AA year in 09.
Great to see him playing so well and apologies are owed from many the hater here.

Want to win the flag for Tarrant and Davis this year, I know technically Davis has a medal...but you know.

The role he is playing for us reminds me a bit of a sweeper or libero in Soccer. He is just so good at getting to and killing contests because of his speed and ability to read the play. We have seen this alot in our team with our defenders getting third man up but he does this with ground balls better than anyone. He also has the vision and skills to set up play for us. His defensive skills are also more than sound which has surprised me.

Seems like with the pressure off to score goals or create scoring opportunities in the forward line this has increased his creativity and confidence.

Master stroke again by Mick.

I have always had a soft spot for Leon and loved his skills. He has been one of my favorites for a long time ... and continues to.

Absolute Star!!!!

Thought I would bump this after yesterday's performance!! '
He is a freak in traffic, AA Leon is definitely back!!!!

Andrew McLeod mark II
Is making the role his own, and is getting better each week.
Well done to both the coaching staff, and to Leon.
Go Pies!!! Back to back please!!!!

He's going amazingly well, a real credit to him that he can reinvent himself after looking like his career was almost finished and become an invaluable part of the team again. Shaw and O'Brien must be loving it having him down there.

The amazing thing is that he has seemingly reinvented himself at the same club. Most clubs will move guys on if they dont make it, or start to struggle in their primary role. Full credit to Leon & the club staff for his resurgence in the 'sweeper' role this year.
