Opinion Lessons learnt from the past five weeks

The most bewildering part of all was Chris Scott saying it was difficult to drop GHS after being in their top 5 players last week.

Why did you then Chris!? Why would ANY coach drop who they've acknowledged as one of their best, especially when there were forced outs (SJ & Taylor Hunt). Kid must be scratching his head wondering what he has to do.

Well, any of the following three options would help:

1. Come from an interstate side.
2. Be a high draft pick.
3. Have pace.

Thank god Hyphen is contracted for two more years because he could start to get frustrated with the lack of opportunities...

Hyphen knows exactly what's going on.

To be fair, I think he realises his opportunities will come. He seems remarkably level-headed.
He does and if he wasn't from SA I'd probably have zero concerns. There's just a nagging doubt because of the potential lure of going home.

That's probably because he got injured against Collingwood. If you mean the Melbourne match he got given votes by the coaches. Why would you pick him out of 22 players to recognise for their efforts, then say again he was in your best 5, then drop him?

Just think he dropped off after the Doggies match, wasn't his fault he was made sub the following week but he didn't find that same form again.
I think Smithy's recent form has also made it a little tougher for Hyphen to get a game ahead of him as Corey has been playing more minutes in the centre square than across the back-line and he's really found his best form at the right time of the season.

Sadly I counteract that.

I was having a couple of beers watching the game.

So, clearly you need to drink and I need to stop.
It depends on the quality of the beer. If I drink Carlton, we win. If I drink quality, such as the pints of Little Creatures I inhaled during the Adelaide match, we lose. I have never ever been sober during a football match, so I can't speak to that. Clearly there is an inverse relationship between the quality of our side and the quality of beer that is consumed.

Maybe that was part of the reason GHS was dropped on the weekend. Didn't want to parade him under Adelaide's noses....

The last fortnight was a tail of two teams. The Cats we have asked for all year played 4 quarters against Melbourne and never dropped in intensity. The Cats we have worried about all year played against Adelaide, doing the bare minimum for an easy win and turning off completely once it seemed won. I could feel the lack of intensity from the first bounce last week, just seemed like they had no desire at all.

Stringer has shown he is capable of playing well against the big teams, but I think he is still on the fringe. Smedts seemed really out of touch at the weekend, maybe a consequence of too many weeks in the VFL, but would expect him to be much more switched on if he is going to be selected in finals.
Murdoch's spot is his to lose still.

And Dawson Simpson is just growing in stature every week. It's taken him a long time to get here, but I think he has finally arrive (touch wood).
