How did he come out with that stat then?
I can't say im sure. Johnson is the 4th fastest in the 200 and he is yet to be proven to be assisted, and Yohann Blake has 3 times in the top 12 and he hasn't tested positive either.

Similar story in the 100m. I'm not sure what Roo is on about.

Well, he would've gone on that the other im the top 30 are Tyson Gay, Justin Gatlin, Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter and Yohan Blake. They've all tested positive at one point or another. However, sometimes they are years after (Powell and Gay) or years before (Blake) they set those times, and for example, Blake's was for a substance that wasn't banned but close to a substance that was banned.

It is cheating. Breaking the rules to compete.

That is the disheartening thing about it.

I am not anti doping as such, but anti cheating.

I personally think there will come a time where there will be a rival sporting event that will allow doping. As there is in Bodybuilding. I would bet that if it were to happen it would over take the Olympics and other clean events in terms of popularity.

The issue with the alternative event is that if we saw athletes legally doping themselves stupid you'd have a bunch of them kicking the bucket well before time.

Even in the WWE there's a stack of 80s/90s wrestlers who've died far too young. It would also have large implications for other sporting bodies around the globe.

Yohann Blake has been found guilty of using a stimulant. You may argue , as the athletes did , that it wasn't WADA illegal. But he still served a suspension therefore he can be considered a cheat

From wiki

Prior to the 2009 World Championships, Blake (along with Marvin Anderson and Sheri-Ann Brooks) tested positive for the stimulant 4-methyl-2-hexanamine.[19][20] A disciplinary panel organised by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) cleared him of a doping infraction on the grounds that the drug was not on the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned list. However, JADCO appealed their own panel's ruling, stating that the athlete should be disciplined as the drug was similar in structure to the banned substance tuaminoheptane.[21] As the panel would resolve the issue after the World Championships, the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association took the precaution of withdrawing Blake from the relay race.[22] The appeals tribunal decided that a ban would be appropriate, and Blake and the three other sprinters each received a three-month ban from competition

I agree.

But money talks

He was referring to the 100m.

Nope, nope nope. It will never happen because quite simply they will never get insurance, funding or sponsorship. A rival event might pop up where anything goes but it will be self funded and everyone of any note will stay a million miles away. The crowds won't want to go and watch athletes collapse and have heart attacks mid race or event. Plus any athlete who wishes to compete in such an event is basically stating straight up they want to die by the age of 40 and have no family. I bet that Body Building event you describe is full of more pain and suffering then actual achievement. It basically is a losers event who can't win naturally.

I don't think performance enhancing drugs do what you think they do. You're also fairly naive when it comes to usage of performance enhancing drugs across major sporting events.

Gold medals at the olympics these days aren't handed out for performance on the track, in the pool or on the bike. They're actually recognition for who has the most advanced masking techniques, who has timed their cycle to perfection and who has the assistance of the most advanced sports science crew.

Look at Lance Armstrong for example, everyone in the game knew he was doing it but no one would come forward. The bloke was obnoxiously successful and everyone lapped it up. If it wasn't for the fact that he became arrogant to the point of threatening and pissed off the wrong people he'd still be revered as an absolute hero rather than considered one of the greatest sporting villains of all time.

Why do you think his competitors didn't come forward? Is it because they enjoyed competing for second? Or was it because they were worried about what might have been uncovered should they bring evidence to light...

Any sporting event that carries a major individual financial windfall on the back of a winning performance will never be clean. If by some miracle someone clean makes the final, you can usually pick them - they're the ones sitting in dead last.

Oh buddy, I am not naive. I think you just operate in the court of everyone is guilty. Fair enough, the sporting public has been treated like fools for decades. Not everyone is guilty though and quite frankly its stupid and insulting of you to suggest it. Not many world records have been broken in the sprints, in fact times were a fair bit slower. World records also didn't fall in the pool very often. This Olympics have seen very few dominant WR performances compared to others from memory. Also it appears clean athletes are forming a bit of a union and publicly outing their disapproval. The anger directed by athletes to Sun Yang was unprecedented. I am of the belief that the amount of athletes per olympics doping is on the downward curve.

If we play to the standard of our tournament so far we will be playing for a gold medal. Seems a steely determination about this team

Boomers on at 7.30am Adelaide Time. Set my alarm for that one. Go Boomers*

*Boomers bandwagoner

Should win this one. I am predicting an Spain V Aussie Gold medal match. Team USA are ripe for an upset and I can see Spain doing exactly that.

Is the USA v Spain game on at 330am tomorrow?

Will try and watch it.

They belted Argentina but the Spanish are a little bit better again. I think the US have been going in 3rd gear a bit but tomorrow morning will tell.

Good to see our swimmers stinking it up in and out of the pool:thumbsu:
After 4 years of absolute dedication, they aren't allowed to let their hair down for a few days? A bloody curfew after their competition has finished? What rubbish, hatting Kitty Chiller more and more by the day.

Kitty has always had it in for our swimmers, but in this case she is right IMO, at least with the SA lad.

Anyone watch the BMX today? Sam Willoughby, a good South Aussie, won all three of his quarter final races and goes into the semi final ranked first. Won bronze in London and is a very good chance of gold this time around. Anthony Dean, another Aussie, qualified for the semi as well in 3rd place. Willoughby is genuinely one of the best in the world at BMX, great lad too. People probably don't really know about him because a lot of the BMX racing is in the US, which is where he is now based.

Some epic crashes as well, actually a damn good event to watch.
