As our assistant coach of course! :)
A player who will go down as one of the greatest servants of the game would bring great thrill and knowledge to our midfield group as well as providing a bit of inspiration for our young group.
Along with such great players like, Diesel, Braddles, Crossisca, Ratts and Sticks, he would certainly be a welcome addition to our already talented and smart coaching group, who hopefully are all brushing off their inside knowledge onto our playing group.
Though Harves didn't get there in the end with the saints, I'm sure it won't be long until he's witnesses premiership glory with us :thumbsu:

Harvey is going to coach the AIS scholarship kids next year.

AFTER losing Michael Voss to the Brisbane Lions, the AIS-AFL Academy appears set to gain another high-profile mentor in St Kilda great Robert Harvey.

Harvey is believed to be poised to sign as one of coach Alan McConnell's assistant coaches as he begins to explore his footballing life beyond the Saints' midfield.

The 37-year-old will join Nathan Buckley and Jason McCartney as a mentor to the best 30 under-17 players in Australia, with another assistant, Luke Darcy, likely to continue on for a second year.

I respect what the guy has achieved and how his type of character has been good for the game and all, but he just doesnt strike me as a good communicator of people. Dunno how he'll go in a coaching role.

The kids will learn a heaps from this guy.

especially his hair :thumbsu:

Great player, but why would we want him?

He's been at St Kilda his whole career, hardly the environment where you'll learn how to be successful

There is more to football that just success, you could not name one player with a more upstanding character than Harvey. If you wanted a role model in your team on how to act and conduct yourself, Harvey would be the first picked everytime.

If the Saints had a few more players as LOYAL, DEDICATED and TRAINED as hard as Harvey did over their career, they would have had a lot more success.

When I first read this thread title I thought it was in regards to recruiting him as a player!! lol.
Robert Harvey would make a good addition to our coaching staff though, particularly with the way he has handled himself over the last 21 years and the way in which he has been able to motivate himself for each and every game.

He would make a fine role model for our boys.

No thanks.

Harvey is one of the best players ever, but doesn't have the personality to make a senior coach. He's too humble and warm hearted.

Coaches need a bit of mongrel, arrogance and strong opinions.

Harvey and Bradley are two of the longest serving players in the modern era...

The why of it is because of all the points Tarquin made...

Loyalty: Braddles played for 2 clubs and gave up a very promising cricket career to play football for the blues. Harv's has played his entire life at St Kilda...

Dedicated: Both of these guys were 100% dedicated to the clubs they have played with. Cut them and they bleed blue and red white and black.

Trained: Bradley used to show up for preseason as fit as he was at the end of the season. He could have kept on playing until he was 40 I reckon... no major injuries and an elite fitness level.

Dunno about Harv's, but I would have to say he would have been training as hard at 37 as he was at 16 when he first started out.

I dont think that Harv's would come to us or that we really need him because we have Braddles to fill the exact same roll that Harv's would fill at the club.

Having someone like Harvey at the AIS would be a good spot for him to start, because they will also teach him about coaching from the ground up and he will get a lot better.

Quality like a 55 metre Braddles pass. :thumbsu:

If I had the choice of Carey or Harvey, I'd still take Carey any day of the week.

 WTF , where did that comparison float in from ??

Fine upstanding pillar of the community that Carey is.

Maybe we could get Chopper Reed , The Moran boys ( father son rule ) & some Columbian barons to handle the tap ruck skills with Wayno in 09 :(

Easy on the international rookies for a while I reckon.

Well at least the Colombians wont get homesick after a couple of seasons....look at what happened to Andres Escobar after he scored on own goal for the Sth Americans in the 94 US WCFinals.

Fly home & Kapow ~ bumped into Messers Smith & Wesson in Bogota and he wont be scoring the wrong way again :(

Harvey = Upstanding citizen, role model of the game, 0 flags
Carey = Substandard human being, generally the example of how not to handle yourself off the field, 2 flags (captain)

The last bit is all that matters.
