^^ I think I'd still prefer another Collingwood premiership over a Carlton one.

My preferences in order:

Sydney
West Coast
Geelong
Hawthorn
Having my testicles dragged across 200 kilometres of barbed wire, glass and salt.
Collingwood
Essendon
St Kilda
Carlton

Agreed, though mine would still be St Kilda, Essendon, Carlton than Collingwood.

I think I could hack Collingwood winning again, simply because I'm already used to their fans being obnoxious due to winning it last year. Plus it would make the whole Buckley thing very interesting and then we'd all get to laugh at Collingwood next year if they fell even a little bit whilst Malthouse is on the sidelines.

I wouldn't mind the Hawks winning it.

The worst thing in the universe would be if Essendon somehow came from no where and won it. I'd leave BigFooty and never come back*.

*Until round 1, 2012.

Can we just take a moment and think.... Imagine if we won the Premiership this year? Just imagine.... BigFooty would go into meltdown!

Oh god I want it, how I want it!

Absolutely, I can just imagine it. How good it would be:p Pity, it's unlikely to happen.

My order of teams to win it:

Sydney
West Coast
Geelong
Collingwood

After that I hope mother nature takes it course and there isn't a grand final for the year. If Hawthorn, Carlton or Essendon won the flag I think I would lose it. At least with Collingwood, they probably do deserve to win the flag considering they have been the best team throughout the season.

I think NRL finals start same week as AFL this year would this make a difference as to where we play. I am sure the league has first dibs at ANZ.

The way that is going its possible there will only be 1 Sydney based final anyhow....

I can see us getting to a prelim. All we're going to have to do (in the most likely scenario) is beat teams we've beaten in the last 2 weeks. We should beat St Kilda, especially at home, and then we'll go up against Geelong in week 2 full of momentum and confidence. Meanwhile they'll be coming off a loss and with their loss to us fresh in their memory...Collingwood v Sydney for a spot in the GF.

First murmur of a possible switch to the SCG

http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/...but-form-key-for-longmire-20110829-1jih4.html

The article seems to imply that if the AFL schedules the game on a Friday night, that would clash with an NRL final. Looking at the NRL ladder, the Wests Tigers are in the box seat for a home final, if they beat 13th placed Cronulla on the weekend.

How likely is it that the AFL would schedule our game for a Friday night, given both the Saints and Swans play on the Saturday this weekend resulting in a 6 day break. West Coast also play on the Saturday so it is unlikely that the Coll-WC final will be on the Friday given this same logic. I still think Sat night is the best option for us in terms of drawing a crowd, while the other 3 games at the MCG would sell well regardless. Also keep in mind they probably want to pair up the Col-WC & Car-Ess and Gee-Haw & Syd-Stk finals with adjacent time slots so that the following week's matchups don't favour one team too much in terms of a break.

(All assuming we get a home final of course, touchhhhhh wood)

Assuming that West Tigers do get a home ground final, and they play on the Friday night or something. I don't think they would attempt to play two games on a ground like ANZ over a weekend. Where they require to move the stands etc, i'd hate to see the loose turf on the wings if they do.

I think we're pretty much guaranteed to play the Saturday night.

The AFL have said the loser of the qualifying final deserves an extra day off going into the next week. It's going to be like this:

Friday: Hawthorn VS Geelong
Saturday: Collingwood VS West Coast
Saturday Night: Sydney VS St Kilda
Sunday: Essendon VS Carlton

I reckon it's going to be moot anyway because I just get the feeling St Kilda will beat Carlton this weekend.

Very interesting topic of debate this. Does the SCG suit this side atm? It suited our '05-'06 sides that were so good at the congestion, contested side of the game but this side atm (while still very adept in that side of the game) may be more suited to an open style that is easier to play at the longer expanses of ANZ.

It's not a choice for me. I'd pick SCG every time so I truly hope the Tigers force our hands.

The only teams I'd like us to avoid in the final series are Hawthorn & Collingwood.

If we can make it to a prelim/GF off the back of a game against StKilda, Geelong/WCE, Carlton, I think we'll be ok. Don't think we'll get much beyond the saints TBH, but I reckon we can do everyone else on our day.

Found this interesting

If both Sydney and St Kilda won their matches and Sydney were to score 27 more than St Kilda and concede 57 less – thus winning by 84 more points, the AFL would have a dilemma on its hands.

Possible scenario –
Sydney 23.10-148 v Brisbane 7.4-50 – margin 98
St Kilda 19.7-121 v Carlton 16.11-107 – margin 14

The final ladder would look something like
P W L D F A % Pts
St Kilda 22 12 10 1 1926 1718 112.107 50
Sydney 22 12 10 1 1926 1718 112.107 50

Both would finish on the same number of points for and against with the same number of wins.

So who finishes 6th and have the "home" final?
Would it be Sydney because they defeated St Kilda at their only meeting this year?

If there was to be a pre-elimination final to decide – where would it be held – and this would push all the finals back one week – and the GF to October 8th?

http://footystats.freeservers.com/Daily/Diary.html

So essentially, Swans and Saints would play off (held where?) basically for the right to host the final the next week where they would face off again.

Obviously for the scenario to occur, kicking 23.10 seems very fanciful by our conversion this year

Nah it'd go to us because we beat them in the only meeting this year. Fairly sure that's how it works. Only thing that would be interesting would have been if our draw had been against them.

Perhaps in that case they'd do it by who kicked more goals for the season (I'm guessing St. Kilda).

If we're playing a final in Sydney, then yes sadly, it will be at ANZ Stadium. :(

Not sure about the Melbourne final though....

Probably been asked before, but what is the deal with ANZ Stadium?
SCG is our home! Did we sign a deal with them ,or did the Afl railroad us into playing games there.Probably after the olympic games they needed to
make use of the now empty stadium, but after having a couple of big games there post priemership in the last couple of years, its over!
I dont live in Sydney anymore, but to me the Scg was always the place to be! Walking through Moore Park, the lights on. A game of Rugby League
on next door no crowd. Funny that, passionate fans ,they hate our game
but refuse to,boost crowd numbers if they were serious.

If the percentage and scores are level for Sydney and St.Kilda, pretty sure St.Kilda get the home final, due to alphabetical order. Would be pretty stupid to have a pre-elimination play-off, you would have imagined.
So you're saying having it decided by alphabetical order is less stupid than a play off?

Yeah like having a play-off during the week is the way to go, go figure you'll take that route. But a play-off woud be great for both teams. I'm just stating what could be fact...
How is it 'fact' when the first time I've heard it is when your posted it. Surely at the very least they would toss a coin or draw lots to give the second team a chance. Otherwise I suggest we rename our team the AAASydney Swans.

Stat's suggestion is still the most logical one.

Hahahahahahaha! Alphabetical Order! Hahahahhahahahaha!
Go the Bloods! Smash the Lions then the Saints, wherever. Collingwood to beat up on the Weagles, Essendon to scrape past Carltank, Hawthorn to drown the Cats,
THEN Swans to rob Geelong, Weagles plucked by Essendon, Colliwobbles to fall in a heap v Swans and Bombers to fall over the line in the sand against Hawks..
Leaving Swans to beat sooky Bombers by one point when the Goodes Machine kicks a goal after the siren at 5.06pm on 1 October 2011.

Fantasy Football at its best! Go the Bloods!:D

Yep, you want a pre-elimination final too I assume? I want my time back for arguing against that stupid idea, which some were for it. Since no one cares, I'll just delete my posts. A pre-elimination final is a great idea.
