I know its early days, but from what we have seen from both these guys, who would we prefer to see lining up Round 1, 2013 (Hopefully alongside Cloke and/or Waite)

Casboult for round 1.

Would enjoy watching both together at some point, against weaker teams, and whomever has developed the most throughout the season at the end of it (which I feel will be Mitchell).

At this stage hammer as ruck/forward beside Cloke and Waite. I don't expect many to agree, but Shaun's early form forward and superior ruck ability puts him in front for mine.

Another development year for Levi and Mitchell with stints in the 1s on form/fitness. I wouldn't expect either are likely to step up and cement a position (although a lot can change over a preseason) so i'm just hoping for an injury free year and a huge improvement in Levi's kicking action. The chances will come...

I agree with the general consensus that Casboult will be in the team before Mitchell next year, however, Mitchell seems to be strong on the lead, has a decent kicking action, and from what i noticed, is very good when the ball is on the deck. For me, Mitchell will have a greater impact then Casboult long term, but in 2 or so years after Waite is gone, they will both be playing alonside eachother.

Early days..

Casboult marks well and is a big pressence, kicking needs serious work. Really like the look of him though, he did well considering the time he came in he was under done and asked to ruck etc.

Mitchell needs fitness and confidence between now and next year (and no injuries) but will be a beaut in time. Hard to judge on 1 game. loved seeing him kick a goal yesterday though:cool:

Look forward to seeing them both improving and becoming more regulars next year.:thumbsu:

From what I have seen Mitchell is the future. If that takes 1 injury free preseason or another development year (also Injury free) is anyone's guess.

He would've had a bigger impact yesterday if we didn't keep kicking it above his head or behind his lead.

We dot give out 25 to anybody, the kid is no mug.

Def do not want to see Cloke lining up for us but that is another topic. I think both have shown enough to suggest that they could join Waite in a starting line up forward line. If I had to pick one Casboult as he is such a solid mark. However Mitchell seems a bit smarter.

Mitchell for mine, only on his potential. Cant see Levi getting his kicking to a point where he will be an everyday footballer. He's had 3 years to get it right and is still a long way off it. Has got the best hands at the club but kicking goals is what counts.

Mitchell to me (mainly based on hype out of Carlton and his preseason this year) will be our next CHF. May not be ready by round 1 but will be our no.1 fwd eventually (unless cloke arrives of course)

Hard to judge this early on, after barely coming back from 3 shoulder recos. Physically, looks awesome, and showed (as pointed out above) good signs with ball on the ground. Hope Squid and Caz make it big. Very happy that the MC gave him a game yesterday. 2013 is going to be a very interesting year, IMO. Can't wait :(

Casboult for rd 1, has a much bigger presence. Mitchell needs time, needs to put together a full season in the magoos with hopefully 5 in the seniors. will be a development player & long term prospect! If casboult learns to kick who knows what he can become! he can clunk marks like anyone but kicks horribly & has little impact when the ball hits the ground

Have seen enough to believe long term Squidda, but astounded by the impact of Levi. Except for a couple of NAB cameos, reports from Northern were indifferent ie good mark but not much else. Hell, chase downs of Dempsey, and contested marking to rival Cloke mean we must give the kid his dues. Don't forget he came off 2 lower level games to toil in the ruck before moving forward when he was entitled to be spent...big upside. It is hard to dispute that Cloke no 1 contested mark in game, but with these two developing, I cannot see the need. Waite bordering on elite when fit, Hammer still has plenty of upside, Hendo more than capable key forward, and Rowe should not be forgotten. 6 in to 3 doesn't go. McCarthy, McInnes and White have also shown forward credentials. Walker no mug if forced to play as a tall target. That is 10 key forward options, many of whom are still developing.......oh wait forgot Kreuzer as well. Hard to believe that if our fitness staff do an adequate job, we do not have the cattle.
Why do we need Cloke????????????????????????? A little bit of faith people.

Been pleasantly surprised by what I've seen of Levi's follow up work when the ball goes to ground since he's come into the seniors, much better than what he'd shown playing for the Bullants.

Waite, Mitchell and Casboult will all be lining up and Kreuzer will be the ruckman and nothing more. This is what will happen if Malthouse becomes coach because this is how he structures his teams. The Carlton way of doing things (no more than 2 tall forwards) is now dead and I couldn't be happier.

The only question is who plays as the part time ruckman. Hampson or Casboult. I am tipping Casboult because a part time ruckman is prefered over a part time forward. Rowe is also in the mix too and so will McCarthy but the looks of things.

Good question, a tough one to answer really.

Levi has shown more at senior level, but that is obvious given he managed 6 senior games, compared to Luke's debut game yesterday.

Both have a long way to go but there have certainly been promising signs from both at stages.

This really centres around whether or not we get Cloke. If we do, it wouldn't surprise if neither Casboult nor Mitchell line up in Navy Blue come round 1. I can see Mick heading in with 3 tall forwards, and I'd be giving the trio of Cloke, Waite and Hampson first go at it. If we don't manage to lure Travis across, that changes things and a real opportunity will present itself. That being the case, I'd probably have Levi in front - but not by too large a margin and it certainly depends on how the boys go through the preseason.

One thing I can answer is that we appear to be a fair bit better equipped in the key forward area than many give us credit for. Getting Cloke should be a priority and if he does, we will have a really nice group of Cloke, Waite, Hampson, Casboult, Mitchell and Rowe. Thornton at a pinch if he sticks around, too.

That's a nice group and a long way from a disaster that many have been painting for some time. The key is Cloke, and keeping them out of the hospital ward.
The only question is who plays as the part time ruckman. Hampson or Casboult. I am tipping Casboult because a part time ruckman is prefered over a part time forward.

That would indicate that Hampson is to be ahead of Casboult, not the other way around as you suggest.

Ideally would like them both but if I had to choose one or the other, well, it gets tough.

However, long term I agree Mitchell could well be the best all round player with his text-book kicking action and skills both in the air and at ground level. Early doors I know, but he may very well do the number 25 a lot of justice and give us Fevola-like skills in a taller body, though probably without the x-factor and pace.

But he needs time. For instant impact, i.e marking, some ruck work and general presence, Levi is the one. And who knows how good the Bolt could be. He really needs to fix his kicking and if he can, he has a tonne of potential.

Next year with Cloke:
FF: Betts Cloke Mitchell
HF: Garlett Waite Walker/Armfield/Robbo

Next year without Cloke:
FF: Betts Mitchell Waite
HF: Garlett Casboult Walker/Armfield/Robbo
