1 thing I think is good about McMahon is that at this stage he looks an accurate kick at goal which is a whole lot better than most of our players,I am not sure if he is ready for the one,s but I would not be holding him back if he was.

Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
We need him forward the back line will hold up without him there. No point holding sides to 50 points if we only manage 40 ourselvesWhat they both had in common was that they were exceptional KPD’s who were lynchpins in very successful teams.
Take Moore away from our defensive third and our tall stocks are worse off at that end of the ground than up front. Roughead is our only other option and he’s barely going. At the other end Mihocek is top 3 by role in the league behind Darling, IMO, and Cox is on par with Roughead. Robbing Peter to pay Paul. Although I guess in retrospect he does share a stronger forward mix in common with Leppa and SOS. Albeit not the quality of Carlton of the 90’s and Brisbane of the 00’s.
For any prospective onlookers buying into Rusty’s fantasy let’s say we have Richmond this week with both Lynch and Reiwoldt in the lineup. Moore is forward in place of Cox. Who are you playing on Reiwoldt? Assuming Roughead goes to Lynch (a matchup he’s really struggled with since joining the club) is it Howe? If so how much does that compromise his ability to intercept? We now have our top two intercept defenders either gone or blunted because they need to be more accountable. All for the sake of what an extra goal a game? The thought of having him up forward is tantalising of course until you actually consider the consequences. Those are the questions a coaching group that will be held accountable for stupid changes have to ask. They also know the answer is of course leave him back unless it’s take the goalkeeper off time.

Still have plenty of quality in the back 6. Could blood Keane or Kelly down there. A lot more young defenders come in and have success as it’s so much easier to play backYou’re correct it’ll “hold up”, but in doing so will go from our biggest strength to a neutral line all for the sake of maybe an extra goal a game and supporters fantasies of Moore as the great white KPF hope.

It depends on the dynamics of both forward and back lines - hard to say if a single goal would be the entire advantage - such a mobile tall target will certainly attract attention and possibly 'loosen' the defensive strategy. You’re correct it’ll “hold up”, but in doing so will go from our biggest strength to a neutral line all for the sake of maybe an extra goal a game and supporters fantasies of Moore as the great white KPF hope.

More than anything it highlights the fact we are one seasoned KPP short of where we need to be at present and may be reduced to 'shuffling the deck chairs'.
That was the exact same logic they used to throw Moore back that it would be easier for his development. Yet relying on Kelly who played all his junior footy to come through and be the forward we need is the sound logic? That’s your answer? Blooding Kelly or Keane to play on the likes of Reiwoldt, Darling, Hipwood, Cameron, Curnow or Membrey? This discussion line is exactly why supporters support and coaches coach. I’m done with wasting time discussing something that won’t happen in a thread about McMahon, but best of luck with your ongoing frustration with how the club use Moore![]()
Yep. Not every defender has to be a rebounding/intercept one either.
If Keanne/Kelly come in purely as a stopper in the old school Presti or new age Harris Andrew’s mould that would be fine.
With guys like Maynard, Crisp, Quaynor, Noble, Howe, there should be plenty of bounce out of backline already.
Well I'm in the 'stop repeating what doesn't work' group.Just play him John
My thought's exactlyWell I'm in the 'stop repeating what doesn't work' group.
Surely it should be trialed in this season, give it a decent run of 3 or 4 games and see what effect it has at both ends.
If there is a net gain great.

The bottom line is we are one seasoned KPP short so take your pick which end you want him.No point having him up forward when we can't exit the back half. He will just be standing there watch the defence clock up stat's.
If we had a viable alternative then sure, but we don't.
This is not under tens where you think anyone can play defence and you will get by. Rance, Govern etc types aren't playing in defence because they are spuds. They are there become they are playing one of the most vital roles on the field.
The problem with our forward line is only in part to do with a lack of a decent tall. It is more about entry and the lack of genuine fast, elusive, creative small to medium forwards.
Move Moore there if you like, the forward line will probably still struggle due to a range of difficiencies.
No point kicking 80 points if opposition kick 100.
If Kelly had not had all his injury issues then potentially it would not be an issue. But yes we are a quality KPP short at one end or the other. The bottom line is we are one seasoned KPP short so take your pick which end you want him.
With Cox and Miochek Moore would add a third tall and certainly give opposition defenses headaches.
The crucial point is could we cover his absence from the back line adequately to for a net score difference in our favour.
If we could net gain enough to scrape over the line two more games over the season it could work.
My feeling is it's possible with a careful redrafting of back line strategy but it's just a feeling - probably born of the knowledge our forward line just isn't up to it.
Agreed and as KDP's are more available and less outrageously priced we really should be looking for one, then the move of Moore forward would be a viable alternative. If Kelly had not had all his injury issues then potentially it would not be an issue. But yes we are a quality KPP short at one end or the other.

Jen any reference to patience in these pages is literally pssng into the wind. He'll be a gun. We just have to have a bit of patience.
I'd do it if we still had Langers and his intercept marking to go with Howe's. But without him I tend to agree. You’re correct it’ll “hold up”, but in doing so will go from our biggest strength to a neutral line all for the sake of maybe an extra goal a game and supporters fantasies of Moore as the great white KPF hope.
Everyone always in a rush! haha. We can't make him the hulk at 18 years old and play like plugger overnight. Its the long game.Jen any reference to patience in these pages is literally pssng into the wind.
It's the world we live in sadly.Everyone always in a rush! haha. We can't make him the hulk at 18 years old and play like plugger overnight. Its the long game.
Been a while since we had a gun FF. What year was Clokey firing?Jen any reference to patience in these pages is literally pssng into the wind.
From memory, Watts had no VFL form leading up to his debut. That was Melbourne trying to generate hype for the yearly Grand Final against us.Not sure Jack Watts is a good example of anything related to potential debut's for draftees. He didn't debut until the Queens Birthday clash against us which was likely R10 or 11 so had some solid VFL form behind him.
Yep, and did poor old Jack get a lovely Collingwood welcome to Senior AFL Football , was smashed from pillar to post all game by our boys, loved it, at the end of the game poor old young Jack Watts , was scratching his head at the end , like , WTF have I decided on an AFL careerFrom memory, Watts had no VFL form leading up to his debut.
