He also stated that he was in for his debut game, so maybe he knows something....Picken in for Addison

But is he really in our best 22?
I've never seen him play. Will he play in the midfeild? Tough? What's his kicking like?

He's cited to be a tough, quick player. Hell, he won the Williamstown B&F. I'm looking forward to him, he should tear the Roos apart...

He should replace Tiller - who while having a solid game last week was still porbably amongst our worst and at his best offers less to the side than someone like Addison.

I remain skeptical about the decision to play Picken, he goes alright but I think his skills and decision making are slightly lacking.

However he should be able to pull off a run with role, almost purely negating.

Hope he takes his chance, good luck to the kid!

There not going to make 3 changes based on last weeks game and the ins were Callan, Harbrow and Picken.

Logically based on match ups, i think Callan will be the only change with Evritt who could get caught out by Norths more experienced players.

Good luck to Liam. It is a fantastic good news story and goes to show what determination and perseverance can do for you.:)

Here is a nice article about Liams journey from Damian Barrett with some nice quotes from dad Billy thrown in.

My favourite part of the article was;

Picken Sr, whose oldest son Marcus played for the Brisbane Lions and the Bulldogs, said Liam's perseverance made him proud.
"The breaks never went his way. He was never put up to play league footy, so all the congratulations go to him," he said.
"It is special for someone like Liam, who was seen (by a Williamstown scout) as a 17-year-old playing in a country grand final in a place called Casterton. He was playing for Hamilton against North Gambier.
"He then went to Melbourne for university and Williamstown rang him up, and that's how it all has transpired. Don't think anyone else was interested in him.
"It's been tough for him studying while he's been playing footy.
"But he has managed his bachelor of international business and he has also worked for the defence ministry.
"Even when he started at Williamstown, he worked in the salami factory and down on the wharves, unloading things, just so he could fund himself."
The young Picken spent four years with Williamstown before the Bulldogs rookie-listed him.
"He just has a drive for whatever he does. He never gave up with his footy, and his university results have always been fantastic - he is just a focused lad," Picken Sr said.

Fantastic achievement.

Will play, you don't elevate a rookie (because it costs you) & not play them.

Couldn't agree more. There would be no point to elevating him and then not play him.

Will definately play. Brown definately knew on TFS that Picken had been told earlier in the week. Also went to training this morning, and he was doing a tagging job throughout the stoppage work.

I heard the williamstown fc actually paid some money to help Pickon get a chance at the dogs. They are confident he has what it takes to be a very good player at the top level.

Hopefully he can turn into another Boyd/ Morris rookie because they have done us wonders.

If anyone is to go this week i think we should drop/ Rest Everitt because we dont need to many talls this week vs the roos.

Earlier in the week, I think it was Leon Cameron, who suggested the knock on Callan last week at Willy would see him have a week off... or stay at Willy. That says to me either Tiller or Everitt out, Picken in to tag Harvey.

hooroo....

What do you mean?

Not to sure but apparently Williamstown paid the dogs to sign on Picken as a rookie to give him a chance because they knew he could and would make it in the big time.

Im honestly not to sure if that's the way it went but to anyone that does can you please post.

Yeah that's correct. Was an article on it somewhere, probably wouldn't be at the club if they didn't pay for the rookie spot.

From what I remember reading (I think it was in the Bulldog magazine that member's got), they mentioned in the Williamstown report that they provide funding to the Bulldogs for a rookie each year.

They didnt give it specifically for Picken, and it doesn't have to be used on a Williamstown player. It's just to help out the Dogs, and I think they would be hoping a fair bit that it is used on a Willy player.
