Traded Liam Ryan [Traded with 2027 R3 to St Kilda for 2026 R2 (Stk)]

He still has value, played reasonably well considering he plays forward of centre in a team with a dysfunctional midfield.

Like Barrass it makes sense to let him go, we have depth in his position, and he should get us something decent whether its a player, a pick in the 15-30 areas(after accounting for academy+compo, so a mid-late first rounder essentially) or a pick upgrade
Extremely optimistic 15-30

eagles are a very willing seller with Ryan and wouldnt read too much into what Mini said
Ryan is leaving for the money as the eagles wont get near the saints offer

St Kilda dont have a 2nd rounder and they hold picks #44 & #58
F2 is my prediction or if the eagles want a pick this year #44 would be in the conversation

But, sometimes clubs value players differently right?
If eagles want more than what we are prepared to pay we walk away.
Happens all the time.
Happened last year with the saints and a player from carlton we offerred a contract to and we walked away.
That's football.

well saints should have checked on that value before getting him to stick his neck out and put his family through it with potential backlash. its far more sensitive with indigenous players.

not sure who that Carlton player is (Kemp)? but did he go down this far into it? can't remember
Kemp asked for a trade to us late in trade week. We had agreed a deal with a pay rise.

But Carlton wouldn’t budge on a second rounder. We wouldn’t budge on a third. So we walked away.

Seems like there is interest in Flanders from the GC as well, so something involving our first pick, WC Hawthorn pick and some other bits and pieces for Ryan and Flanders to the saints does feel close.

Not sure how it all plays out but assume WC gets the saints pick, GC gets the hawthorn pick and other bits move around.

I’m sure a bunch of posters from all sides will say some versions of “you’re dreaming” but it feels like a relatively realistic type of deal.

Zeke will get bid before hawthorn's pick so that is pointless for gc.
They would want future 1sts if anything but more likely a best 22 player.

We are ok with selling, but we arent going to cry if he stays.

We dont need more picks this year, we dont need his trade capital to get other deals done, we just arent the ones with the onus on getting it done.
Its not like last year with Baker and Barrass, we can chill.

The Saints have other deals to do, they will end up with a suitable pick at some stage, or theyll do a pick upgrade for us(7 for Ryan + hawks 1st areas), or just offer a player.

For us, we really have no need for 2nd round or later picks at all, likely for at least a few years. Outside using them to trade up the order naturally, just not a big need. Id rather keep Ryan than take a F2

Correct

Saints trading F2nd for Aleer
Need other picks for our NGA kid

Personally, I think he will end up elsewhere
Not fussed at all

LOL players need to be beware when nominating st Kilda. thats what all of this means. Think they are out to create angst and will end up with Essendon like reputation. Be tough works for a while with fan base but grinds on managers etc.

if kemp is worth a third in deep draft, then an in-contract all Australian is definaltey not worth only a third in this year's draft.

Eagles list management isnt completely stupid (like some may be thinking)

You come after a contracted player, and get them to ask for a trade, its on you to pay up fairly.

They know that, they had it the other way around when going after Baker last year.
Nah, Baker wasn't contracted, which is why I was so mad about overpaying.

I think a second rounder is where this one gets done.

Ultimately, he will be 29 and a former premiership player with a deal you don’t seem to want to match on the table.

You’ll take it and wish him well.

If he had a multi year contract currently, you could maybe ask for a late teens pick. But he doesn’t.

Eagles wont keep Ryan as the club will he looking foward and wont get better than a 3rd round compo next year
Ryan & Hawks 1st is a 4 spot up grade on current spots and most likely is a nothing upgrade in this draft anyway
But would all depend on other trades like Flanders and Aleer as they would be priority

2nd rounder has a high range. do you have one?

But, one was a 23yr old key position player and the other is a 29 yr old small forward
Plus, you are not trading for the all Australian 2020 liam ryan
You are trading for the liam ryan's form now.
The trade is based off Liam's recent output which has reduced based off his recent performances.
If flanders is a first rounder there is no chance that ryan is a first rounder aswell

If we think the Saints are to be bottom 4 areas next year(very unlikely) then I think we might go for it.
Not if the Saints are looking to make finals, which they will be with all these supposed player acquisitions.
That F2 would be pushed to the 30s at best in that case(accounting for the top part of the draft being protected), which is just too far unders.

F2 + something sure

His value is less than it was in 2020, but hes still playing good footy.

Mate, Alex Neal bullen went for pick 28. Can’t see Ryan having more value.
Last year was quite a strong draft.
Eagles were offering their f1 to everyone up to the early 20s to buy back in.
North paid their f1 for pick 27 and a f2 from the Tigers.

This year is nowhere near as good, pick 10 this year is like pick 18-20 last year

ANB worth 28 last year, he'd be worth a teens pick this year

"Eagles are a willing seller, despite what Mini, Clark and Pyke have all said."

Sure thing bud.
